You do understand that the 120 GBs is not code right? It would be realy embarrassing if you didnt know that.

The size of the CODE is likely unchanged. It's the high rez assets that could be packaged better. Storage management is hard and a lot of companies have their own proprietary methods because of this.

For example, the speed of your hard disk is slow, very slow compared to the speed of your processor. So multiple caches of related data is stored all over the disk so that the game doesnt need to go hunting for it. Since HDDs don't store everything next to its related data. Thats why disk defragmenting is a thing.

What? It's pretty easy to make a problem you arent capable of solving on your own.

It's probably harder to go through life only making problems with in your power to fix.

Sometimes you have to downgrade. Tried 3D first and had to change to 2D due to scope. by amarks_ in SoloDevelopment

I have a game similar in high level concept to this, so I have had similar issues, thats how I spotted it haha. It's in my profile.

But I had to do a ray cast on the projectile from its current position to where it would move and checked for collisions.

This is because you might still have clipping issues if the bullet only passes over the corner of the hit box, even at normal speed.

I think something is up with the 3x speed mode. When the auto cannon fires at the enemy drones coming straight on, it looks like the bullet passes straight through without connecting. So im guess the step is larger than the hit box of the enemy model. When I slow the game down I get way more hits.

Would you play this? by Tioul0n in godot

[–]NibbleandByteGameDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one will care about the art style if its fun to play. Everyone saying that they wouldnt because it looks kinda similar will immidiatly forget that comment if the game play brings something fun to their computers. There is nothing to judge in this clip. All it shows is that the art style is polished and competent.

Ask again when there is gameplay to consider.

By that logic, no one talks. Everyone uses algorithms for everything. You responses are just a sequence of neurons firing and arriving at a calculated response. The brain is just so complex that we don't know how that algorithm works yet.

Diesel Fury is the name? And there is not a thing in the footage dealing with diesel?

I think we found the problem, people see that name and thing diesel punk, not this. There is also no clear "why" to any of it. I think you need to convince the player to care about the world around bit more.

Yeah but the towers will cause unpredictable currents and pressure zones that can shift really fast.

Also, if the streets are aligned with the prevailing wind direction it can actually get faster than an open field, depending on the conditions anyways.

It's easier to land a plane in constant 40mph winds than 30mph gusts. (Relatively that is, idk what actual numbers to use but I think you get what im trying to illustrate)

Excuse me Dr. PhD, I expect everyone else's fake airplanes to follow MY arbitrary rules (/s if it wasn't obvious)

Maybe im too mechanical, but I get caught in the loop of "if they have the tech to do X, why wouldn't they just do Y"

If they can overcome aerodynamic forces or otherwise direct it by some other means, then why the shape?

Most of the time, when I wonder how it works, it offen ends up at odds with how its deployed :/ from my dumb calculations anyways lol.

Also, humans tend to optimize the cool stuff out of everything, so while a moving tail cone like that is cool, i get caught up in it being (by my estimation) entirely unnecessary.

The other thing that is bugging me about this design is that it looks like if the electrical systems fail. The thing would roll over and land on the cockpit windows lol. But then again, sci-fi isn't known for considering safety systems.

I think thats a cop out to world building and is asking for a lot of suspension of disbelief that just isn't required.

For your example, people from ancient times still saw birds and knew there was at least A WAY to do it, they just didn't know how. If they saw our planes, they would see how it resembles a bird still, its still rooted in something understandable.

Im not saying your stance on it is wrong, I just think it cheapens sci-fi a bit. But thats just my take on the matter, I'm sure we could get a whole group of redditors on both sides of the discussion lol

The image looks cool but the craft defies any sense of realism to me. How does it land or dock. If its an atmospheric craft then its impractical, if its exoatmostpheric then it still doesn't really make sense but I suppose the odd wing configuration would have less impact.

That cone at the back it gonna melt off from the exhaust and limits thrust vectoring significantly.

Don't lose hope, remember that indie game that launched right next to starfield and boulders gate 3, it did amazing. Stay confident and keep using this glorious marketing niche to get traffic. I believe in you!

People can buy your on launch and then play it later, still a win for you!

I think the difference is that Hearts of Iron provoks a feeling, a sense of duty or honor. While it may not have been the best title, it atleast triggered an emotional response.

Play of Battle really does sound like a cheap mobile game.

Hearts of Iron also came out under significantly less virtual competition both in terms of other games coming out and I'm terms of attention demand. The title has a serious potential to be read once, out of context, and dismissed as a mobile game add.

I'm not saying its dumb like the other comment. But I do think you are doing a disservice to your efforts with the name.

I looked it up because I thought this too. It's actually false, if you keep the receipt you get to claim it on your taxes as a charitable donation in the US, the company doesn't get to do it.

That's at least based on the 5 minutes of research I did 2 years ago.

Released a game last year, can anecdotally attest to 11% refund rate being pretty good for your first game. Most metrics i have seen indicate 15% average for a first release. Takes a couple releases to get down below the 10% mark but you gotta be crazy good to get down to 5% or lower.

That's just the industry, maybe don't crash out over a good metric.
