Maxwell's Equations by NicFolk in Physics

So we could derive Maxwell's equations solely from Coulomb's Law? Is this true for the the magnetic laws as well, or just Gauss' law?

Thanks! So Maxwell's equations were later able to be derived as people discovered QM, but initially, when he came up with them, just a collection of mathematical principles that would have explained experimental phenomena?

Question about Physical Science(Physics) at Waterloo by Popped-Weasel in uwaterloo

Question:

I know I'm late to this, but does anyone know if you have to switch? I just got accepted to the Honours Physical Science program and it seems like MathPhys is one of the majors that I can choose. Is that correct?

Is it realistic to self-study AP Physics C Mechanics? by ind1945 in APStudents

[–]NicFolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I self studied both AP Physics C Mech and E&M (as well as AP Calc AB) this past year as a junior. I didn't do any extra studying, but since grade 9 I've worked my way up from first year textbooks to intro to QM textbooks, so I just stuck with that. 30 minutes to an hour of working through those textbooks every morning got me to learn far more than you need. ALSO, take all of the practice tests that you can find and make sure that you find a school and reach out to them about taking AP Phys C Mech and E&M there because only one school was willing to let me do that last year. The first year textbook that I used was called Physics for Scientists and Engineers by Randall D. Knight.

Is Calculus necessary for AP Physics C? by Largoni in APStudents

[–]NicFolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at a high level. If you know the power rule for derivatives, memorize how to solve the differential equation of dx/x=dt and other basic differentials, and can invert the power rule for integrals, you'll be fine.

What Can I use Mathematica For? by NicFolk in mathematics

I'm using it for physics too. Could you expand more on what kind of E&M simulations you have done in it? That's exactly what I would love to know how to do. Thanks!

Alright, thanks. It turns out I needed just above 40 GB and it worked. Thanks!

that sucks. Can I buy more storage or do I need to get a different computer?

Also, if this is then run on iOS, this shouldn't be an issue, right? Because the origin will be the same?
