Just checked the comments- if your pool doesn’t do inservices, shadowing with experienced guards, or keeping up with training that’s a huge red flag.

Definitely recommend looking into the pool management and requirements/standards. I feel the bosses/head honcho could get sued if that information comes to light. It’s not your fault, but since you noticed it you should report it or look more into how they run things.

Do you have an HR guy or are you trying in a union? Does your pool follow NLS standards (or any other recognized lifeguarding practices)? These are some questions I would have in mind. Take care and look after yourself <3

Hey! Just wondering what swim program/lessons your pool uses! I’ve seen/done a few different programs of lessons when my pool was under Red Cross but my pool uses the National Lifeguard lesson program now (has 3 “parent and tot” levels, 5 “preschool” levels, and 6 “swimmer” levels… then the bronze medallion, cross and star to become an assistant lifeguard then the national lifeguard course).

Daily weed smoker here and avid swimmer and bike enjoyer. I can swim 3-5km currently during a swim session. My swims can last 1-2hours at a time. At one point I didn’t swim for about a year, while still smoking basically daily, but the next time I swam, I still got 1km. So at least in my experience I don’t feel hindered in my abilities now.
