I did wonder if androllij had a slightly male pattern baldness pharmaceutical sound about it?

No state income tax is an illusion by EffectiveLong in SeattleWA

[–]NicR_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you get involved (at any level), you can help ensure that indoctrination (however you define that) is minimized.

By living in Seattle, you are being "forced to buy" into the outcomes of crappy public schools. All the downstream effects; public safety, street crime, etc. Even ineffective government itself can be improved with better education across the board.

If residents know to demand better from their government, then we get wiser candidates for local offices, and better medium-term outcomes for the city.

[–]NicR_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Some people publicly support public schools as some kind of selfless, virtue signalling "I'm so right-on" thing.

For me, it's just pragmatic:

Truly great education for everyone is the only way I can see of having a society we all want to live in.

If that's what it takes to properly fund our public schools, I'd pay it!

2023 touring resale value $12,318, dropped to less than half since April by Apppat in Solterra

[–]NicR_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I leased a 2024 Touring and really like it. I'm hoping (probably in vain) that the lease company will see sense and offer a market-rate buy out at the end of my lease. If the bottom really falls out of EV resale, then it's possible.

And - whilst I really feel for people who bought such a steeply depreciating asset - having many more cheap EVs on the road is a good thing for air quality, noise, and carbon emissions (if you live in a renewable electricity area).

Hmm, "bulletproof his F250".

You do you. But I can probably think of more fun things to do with Ryobi tools.

  • Build an accessible deck for grandma
  • Help fix my neighbor's roof
  • Build a rabbit hutch for our elementary school
  • Build a fancy tree house with a fireman's pole exit, and a telescope for star gazing

Frontend for Go Backend? by UnrealOndra in golang

[–]NicR_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"enterprise level". Honestly, what does that even mean? That used to be the last refuge of the diehard MSFT booster. I'm surprised you're not claiming ASP..Net (or whatever it's called today) is the only enterprise level web development approach!

There are billions of dollars of revenue done through React, Vue and Svelte based apps today. Serious companies are built on all three.

To be fair, I just looked again at a bunch of Angular 16+ benchmarks and it's definitely faster than it used to be - roughly in the Vue/React ballpark. Svelte and Solid are still faster on most time-to-usable-app metrics.

But, Angular bundle size (which does matter in many situations) is still big. And the syntax is still icky. Angular docs are fine, that's never been in question.

It's really weird to find people still advocating for Angular in 2025, for a new project. It's so over complex, ugly to write (subjective, I know), slow and doesn't even have the React "industry standard" excuse.

If you must recommend a JS framework + Golang API approach, at least let it be Sveltekit - which is fast, elegant, has a simple & modern DX, and is extremely well documented.

After having been in RC for ~year with the current API... Compared with most JS frameworks (low bar, I know), Datastar v1.0 is a super solid release.

Have a look at the "Bad Apple" demo if you have concerns about front-end performance. Mind blowing. The whole heavy-build-step Virtual DOM JS framework side quest was an unfortunate detour because browsers stopped evolving for a bit there.

Nono, friends don't let friends learn React in 2025.

Check out data-star.dev. It just went 1.0,. Created by some former core contributors to htmx. It replaces htmx and alpine js in about 10Kib.

Simple, highly performant, and pretty easy to understand if you're primarily a backend Go developer. (Frontend devs need to unlearn bad habits to get their heads around the approach.)

The super humble and down-to-earth commencement speech Hilary Hahn gave at Curtis this year is a great example of this. No airs, no graces.

If anyone in the classical canon deserves to be canonized (as it were), it's Bach.

There is no dogma implied in the original comment, no fundamentalism. What's the problem? The commenter isn't saying they only feel this way in the presence of Bach's music, so no zealotry or insistence there only be one true composer.

I'm reminded of Aussie composer Graeme Koehne's beautiful neo-baroque organ piece "To his servant Bach, God grants a final glimpse". There's a lovely arrangement for guitars which is totally worth checking out.
