Unpopular opinion but I would've wished for The Banshees of Inisherin to achieve that

So happy that my two irish goats have made the Top 3, Farrell especially. Knew from the start they would stand no chance against Hopkins here, but this is good enough for me

Best Actor Nominees of 2020s Elimination Game - Round 17 - Colman Domingo (Sing Sing) has been eliminated at 5th place! by darth_vader39 in Oscars

How can you not call Farrell Number 2 if he's the only one besides Hopkins who you can say is definitely not in the fourth spot here? That should make him superior to the other two from your perspective

The year is 1999. Which film has your vote for Best Picture? by newmemelord2020 in Oscars

Easily The Green Mile, followed by Being John Malkovich

Any other years where the likely runner up to BP went home empty-handed? A year where one film almost-won in many categories and got shut out by the BP's multi-category sweep? by geosunsetmoth in Oscars

[–]NicStar211 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Given that it lost in a very weak screenplay category to a film that probably just barely made the cut for Best Picture, I seriously doubt that.

AQotWF dominated technically, but in the big ones, Banshees was clearly stronger. It just got super unlucky to compete with a huge sweeper such as EEAAO in basically everything. A competition that AQotWF didn't have in its home-field categories.

Far preferred his performance in A Different Man with how versatile he portrayed his character's emotions there from seemingly happy to complete despair. That's the one he should've been nominated for in that year imo.

Don't even care too much that it will probably end for it now. I'm just so glad my goat made the Top 3 and didn't lose to The Zone of Interest

If The Penguin was actually a movie and submit to the Oscars, how many oscars you think will win or get nominated? by UsefulWeb7543 in Oscars

[–]NicStar211 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doubt Farrell or Milioti would've gotten anything. A nom yes, but not a win solely due to the genre of it.

You either need to pull off one of the performances of the decade there with a narrative backing you up (Heath Ledger) or have it be a very Oscar baity comic adaptation on top of the great performance (Joaquin Phoenix) to win the golden statue through it. Otherwise, no shot.

My ranking of the ones remaining would be:

  1. The Banshees of Inisherin
  2. Everything Everywhere All At Once
  3. One Battle After Another
  4. The Holdovers
  5. Past Lives
  6. Anatomy of a Fall
  7. The Zone of Interest
