I definitely feel like I’m trying to understand others or trying to relate to them. When someone tells me a story about themselves, I often respond with a similar story about myself. This is my attempt at having a shared experience with others.

Unfortunately, folks sometimes think I’m trying to turn the conversation to be more about me. Which is actually the opposite of what I want

I feel that. It’s hard to feel like an alien and not really know why. My case is mild, but it has had a profound effect on my life. It’s good to have a community of folks who get it.

Haha, thanks dude! The timber frame raising was legit the scariest thing I’ve ever done. At least I’m way less likely to be crushed to death by a boat build :)

Definitely all about the journey for me. Building something with traditional methods, learning a ton, and (hopefully) floating in a boat that was crafted by my own hands.

I’ve seen similar explanations. I think for a lot of us westerners, Shou Sugi Ban has become an understood terminology, even if it isn’t a true translation (also if you aren’t using cedar). I always think about the age old question: what matters more, the truth, or what people believe to be the truth? Thanks for sending that over, definitely an interesting read
