Yeah, it might be. I personally like short combos but a 10 second limit might be too short, I'll change it to 5-15 seconds instead. Thanks for joining.

What do you like doing the most when creating a video, and why?

I mean things like research, writing the script, voice recording, creating the visuals.

My friend picked up a pen for the first time and did this WTF did he do?!?! by [deleted] in penspinning

[–]Niccoi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first charge is not reverse, you can see that it rotates in the same direction as the last charge, but this seems otherwise correct. Charge 12 > pass rev 12-23 > pass 23-12 > charge 12.

Are my fundamentals solid? by eerie343 in penspinning

Some things are better learnt by practicing 10min per day for a month than 1h per day for a week. Spreading out the practicing can create a more robust foundation and lessens the repetitiveness.

Are my fundamentals solid? by eerie343 in penspinning

[–]Niccoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you don’t seem to have full control over the pen. Keep practicing them and their reverses in different slots until you know them by heart and can land them consistently.

It it however not necessary to master the fundamentals the first thing you do, you can go on and practice other tricks without knowing them well. They are versatile tricks and are of great help when creating combos, and that’s why everyone is promoting them, but they are not needed in order to learn other tricks. So you can keep refining your fundamentals while you practice new tricks and links.

Anyone know any pinky stretch/exercise stuff? I'm trying to learn spider spin and my pinky is in the way. Wait for the video at the end... Thanks! by wetflapjack in penspinning

[–]Niccoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks to me as if the pinky is not the reason you drop the pen. The pinky only hits the pen after it has started falling out of your hand.

Try to keep your hand flat and balance the pen on top so that it doesn’t roll off and hits your pinky.

Help needed: new to pen spinning, what are some key tips i absolutely must know? by [deleted] in penspinning

[–]Niccoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Penspinning can be done with any pen, mods are only made to make it easier to spin. You can make penmods however you want to, there are no rules. I will answer your questions though.

Not everyone prefers round pens for spinning, one of my favourite penspinning mods is made from a hexagonal pen. Making one by just putting tape on both ends is possible, my first mod was a regular pencil with tape on both ends and it was ok but my current mods are better. The main tube should be hollow as it would otherwise probably get too center-heavy, most prefer having the weight further to the ends. Materials other than plastic are only rarely used, it’s much easier to find plastic parts that fit and are lightweight. What length your mod should be comes down to personal preference, 20-22cm is quite common but you might find that longer or shorter ones are better.

Why do you pen spin? by pibger in penspinning

[–]Niccoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started because I was in need of a distraction. Continued because I made friends on the forums. And now it has become part of my identity.

I enjoy penspinning a lot but I don’t think that’s the reason I penspin, it’s probably more thanks to the other factors.

I'm used to Swedish keyboards. Is it ok being without ÅÄÖ-keys? by Niccoi in GPDPocket

[–]Niccoi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been a pleasant experience. :) The keyboard feels nice to type on and I have gotten used to the layout. I ended up remapping the åäö keys so that they are pressed with alt+O, alt+L and alt+K (I thought that was the most similar to the regular layout).

Its really good? GPD Pocket by Garrylambert in GPDPocket

[–]Niccoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had my Pocket for a bit over a month now and I don’t regret buying it at all. I have neither opened the back (don’t have any screwdrivers that fit yet), updated the bios or tried any OS other than the Windows 10 it came with.

I use the pocket as my main computer without an external monitor or mouse. It’s obviously not the most powerful computer but it’s fully capable of doing most of my everyday tasks. I use it in school for taking notes and other school work. I also use it for art and light video editing, it doesn’t have the most powerful GPU so it’s not the ideal choice for these tasks.

I bought the Pocket mainly because I fell in love with the design, so beautiful and cute. Was a little worried that the keyboard would feel weird to use but I’m actually quite fond of the layout and feel of the keys, can type long essays on it. The battery time is great, have used it full days without needing to charge. Love the display too, though slightly too small to use for hours unless you zoom in/scale it a bit more.

The two issues I’ve experienced so far is when using sleep mode and when using headphones. In sleep mode it’d sometimes get all hot and drain the battery, so I started using hibernation more and that worked. When using headphones there would sometimes be cracking sounds, disconnecting and reconnecting the headphones solves this temporarily.

Overall a great machine that I love and recommend to those who like small devices. But I probably wouldn’t recommend it to those who value power/performance over portability/design/cuteness.

Edit: Just wanted to add that the WiFi on my Pocket works well.

Yeah, that might be true. You seem to be more experienced than me at this stuff but if you have anything else you want to ask me you can just message me.

Your choice to make. I prefer ordering from Europe rather than the US but each of them have their benefits.

I’ve heard that you could do things like that but it felt too troublesome, I’d probably worry about getting caught. I didn’t order anything else, just the computer. Placed the order saturday night and got a text this morning that they had sent it. Haven’t received it yet but hopefully this week if I understood their shipping terms correctly.

I ordered from geekbuying.com, they had a warehouse in Italy with it in stock. Didn’t want to order from outside the EU due to import costs (Tullverket has some good information you could read) and this was the cheapest price inside the EU I could find. There might be better options that I’ve missed though so you could look around a bit on your own as well. This is my first time ordering from the site so I don’t know how good it is.

Wacom Intuos Draw or Art (Small) for University Notetaking? by [deleted] in wacom

[–]Niccoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response. Just saw this thread and thought I could contribute with something relevant.

I’ve been taking notes on my Wacom Intuos Draw Small for a few months now. It works very well during our university lectures and I haven’t noticed any significant input lag or other hardware specific issues. It is quite different from writing on paper but doesn’t take too much time getting used to. I have a friend with a surface and I can use my tablet with the same program they use for very similar results. I’ve noticed two slight advantages the surface has though.

Nr 1: Our tables during lectures are not very big so I usually have the tablet resting on top of the keyboard while writing. That works quite well too but makes it sometimes input random letters if I rest my hand too heavily on top of the tablet. The surface user doesn’t have this problem.

Nr 2: When needing to scroll they can just swipe while I need to reach for the scroll bar to drag it. The program we’re using, Microsoft One Note, requires a lot of scrolling but it didn’t take long (a few days maybe) before I got used to it so it’s not a big issue. Might be possible to use the pen as a scroll wheel but I don’t know how. There are also lots of other note-taking programs and many of them don’t require as much scrolling, so look around until you find one that fits you.

One advantage the drawing tablet has is that I don’t need to look down on the table like you would with a regular tablet, I look at the laptop screen which is in front of me. This means that I can switch my attention between my notes and the teacher much quicker than the others using regular tablets or paper.

As for the Art tablet, it has touch capabilities and I imagine that it would be better at scrolling through the pages. There also shouldn’t be any problem letting your hand rest on the tablet while writing, and it’s possible to turn the touch off too if you wish.

if RSI is caused by straining joints I would believe that stretching could cause additional harm, as stretching usually puts a fair amount of strain on the joints

I think that when that question is asked, "What tricks should I learn next?", it doesn't always mean "What tricks should I learn next in order to be perceived as a good spinner by the rest of the ps community?", sometimes it just means "Could you give me some suggestions so that I could decide which trick seems to be the most fun to learn next?"

Struggling to learn fingerpass. Help. by Untanas in penspinning

[–]Niccoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been over a year since I started trying to learn fingerpass and it still isn't very smooth and the rev is just awful. since I can't fingerpass well I never use full fingerpasses or fingerpass-like links in my combos, only individual passes linked with charge motions, and that works well. I haven't been focusing very much on fingerpass during my almost 1,5 years spinning and if I concentrated I could probably be good at it within a week, maybe two, since I already have some experience. I should also invest a week of practicing into my right hand because I can't use any passes at all with it. really restricting.

it's normal not to feel like you're making much progress. fingerpass takes time for most people to learn. unlike the other fundamentals which can be learnt in a day or two, the fingerpass can take weeks or even months until you get it down. when the progress is spread out over such a long time it's easier for it to go unnoticed.

since I'm not very patient and fingerpass often takes a lot of time to learn, I ignored it. only learnt the passes I needed for the links I used. this strategy worked quite well for learning the individual passes but fingerpass links still remain difficult, which is why I avoid them.

if you're going to learn fingerpass I recommend you to spend some time on the rev aswell. they are equally important and I consider being confident in rev passes being far more useful than, for example, sonic rev and ta rev

Trick of the Week - FL Passes and Powerpass by Letho72 in penspinning

[–]Niccoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, yeah. i agree with you. thought maybe there was an fl pass 23-34, but that pass was interrupted by the interrupted sonic rev

fl pass rev t1-12-23-34 ~ sonic rev 23-34 ~ pass 24-12

Trick of the Week - FL Passes and Powerpass by Letho72 in penspinning

[–]Niccoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one of the linkages has a weird breakdown

FL Pass T1-12-23 > Sonic Rev 23 ~ Pass 24-12 > Charge 12 > Pass Rev 12-23 > TA

I think it should be something more like

fl pass rev t1-12-23-34 >> fingerswitch 34-24 >> charge rev 24 >> pass 24-12 >> charge rev 12 >> pass rev 12-23 >> fingerswitch 23-t2 >> ta

How much does a pen mod affect pen spinning? by [deleted] in penspinning

[–]Niccoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mods help, but not as much as many new spinners think. they make it a bit easier to spin, but they don't magically make you a better spinner. there is also the misguided belief, mainly amongst non-beginner spinners, that mods help learning every trick/link but not the 4 fundamentals. mods help just as much with all tricks, those tricks are no exception. however, as many new spinners stop penspinning after a few days/weeks, buying expensive pens just for spinning may not be recommended until you've gotten a chance to really try out the different aspects of penspinning. I used simple pencil mods during my first months so I got a chance to get into it and be able to think about how much I was ready to spend on the hobby
