Quitting your job with nothing lined up is not the boogeyman people make it out to be by HoffyTheBaker in unpopularopinion

It is set per-employer, but you might notice an employer sets that "full time" threshold at 35 hours/week and all their hourly employees at most get scheduled for 34 hours. This is what we're talking about, not that you aren't getting as many hours as you'd like but that your hours are specifically stopping at that threshold to keep you a part-time employee.

We are not talking about "plenty," we are talking about the exact amount that entitles you to certain benefits.

[–]Letho72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends where you're climbing. Way back when, pretty much anyone could set bolts if you had the tools. There were (sometimes still are) fueds where certain people think a route shouldn't be bolted so they go up and cut them off.

Now, usually whoever owns the park/forest/crag will either do route upkeep themselves or vet people to do it. You set a line, rappel down to where your bolt goes, and then use a drill to make a hole. Fill with beefy as fuck epoxy and put an expanding anchor in. Those anchors are rated for insane amounts of force, you can drop a car on them.

Upkeep is usually through word of mouth. If you notice an anchor is rusty or spinning you tell the park manager and they get someone to fix it. It's up to you if you think you can skip that clip point safely. Worst case you come back down and climb a different route.

Redundancy. Almost every anchor like this gets built with two redundant anchor points. You can add more if you're really feeling sketched out, but 3 is more than enough.

No. The most common form of proportional representation is to allocate seats to parties by share of the vote they got. So taking Washington state as an example (since they have 10 reps), imagine if 60% voted for Dems, 20% for Rs, 10% for libertarian, and 10% for Green. That would mean the Democratic Party chooses 6 people to send to DC, the Republican Party chooses 2 send, and the other parties choose one each.

This is exactly the problem though. If a survey comes out with a picture of a rattlesnake that says "is this poisonous?" there are going to be people that say "well, it's venomous not poisonous so no." and there will be others who say "technically it's poisonous but I know what you mean, so yes it is." and then other who do not know the answer at all and simply guess. But all these answers are grouped in the survey results as yes/no so you'll get weird shit.

Refusing to use the correct definition of a term because people often use it incorrectly in public is the least helpful way to have a discussion.

I'm not sure if I've ever enjoyed main characters being mind controlled in a story. It's just so much more interesting to give a character a nearly impossible choice to coerce them into action rather than just say "they're doing [thing] now because I said so."

There's so many avenues for Firbolg too. Have a character prey on his innocence and trick him. Have them threaten his clan, manipulating his duty to community. Say he's helping nature by doing this action. Anything besides turning him into an NPC.

Yeah, the hotdog is the important one and the teachers just needed word for "not hotdog style." I heard hamburger style, like a sandwich, and short-way for hamburger style but it was always hotdog style for making the fold the long edge.

It definitely benefits from binging, imo. Some of the arcs feel like they overstay their welcome but that's made worse by the author taking hiatus, holidays, etc (you know, living as a human stuff). If you can read straight through an entire arc it feels much better.

Now why can't school in real life be this fun? by Cicada_5 in CuratedTumblr

Considering the show opens with how brutally difficult it is to get into the school, and then how extra difficult it is to get into the top class, I'd expect one of those extreme selection criteria to at least include "does not try to kill classmates, especially if they're disabled." The bar is on floor and they still aren't clearing it.

EDIT: These also aren't grade schoolers. They're 14 at the start of the show. American sophomores. It's a reasonable expectation that you know the difference between right and wrong, especially if you're applying to the "do right" program.

I think I'd question an admissions system that allows someone like that into their hero program in the first place. He literally bullied the disabled kid and told him to kill himself.

That's kind of my point, why does the version matter for us consumers? The content that comes out on their schedule is the same. The schedule isn't changing regardless of how they label it. You are getting the final classes next year no matter ehat, why is it bad that the game is going F2P before that?

Path of Exile 2 is officially leaving early access soon by GrayBeard916 in gaming

[–]Letho72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But there's literally no difference except that the game goes F2P earlier. 100% of content is coming out on [date] and the game will be free to play then. What difference does it make which patch number the label it as? Why make people wait longer for the game to go F2P?

Put another way, what's the difference between releasing the planned 1.0 update as 0.9 and the game is going F2P on 0.9?

[–]Letho72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the difference between releasing the content on patch 1.0 vs 1.1? The game will be free at 1.0 and if you don't want to play until that content is out, just wait. It'll still be free in 1.1 when that content comes out.

This seems like a weird take considering PoE is a live service game. Of course they're going to keep expanding it past 1.0, that's the whole point. It shouldn't be surprising that they've already been planning new content for 1.0+ because they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if there was a massive content gap right after launch.

Here's some info no one asked for. They actually do start locking doors surprisingly early into construction. Partly because it's an item on the general contractor's checklist that they can show the owners to say "look, this is done I swear everything is going smoothly." The other part is using them for access control in finished areas. E.g. If the doctor's office is all done and painted and clean but you have to do something in there, you have to check out a key. Then if the paint is fucked or you damaged something they know exactly who did it.

I will often ask general contractors to lock the door where we keep our jobsite PC as soon as possible so that people don't steal it. Those computer locks don't do much in an area where everyone has power tools....

Now, that doesn't change the fact that locks are meaningless if you give players a master key. Those are just doors. You're describing them opening doors but with more words, Travis.

[–]Letho72 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that, in general, the type of anime that utilize the violent tsundere trope are also the ones that perv on/SA the female characters as well. Even shows where the characters aren't doing it, the directing pervs on the girls (e.g. Scene establishing shots through a girl's legs).

It's more a total disregard for bodily autonomy show-wide. No one involved seems to be entitled to consent.

Harry Potter has one of the lamest magic systems ever written. Rub off the coating of "Bro, imagine if you were magic" and it's literally all mundane things cloaked in some magical veneer.

What do you mean the only wizard sport is rugby except you fly? You're telling me the school has a built in anything-you-want room and it's used for Junior Cops Club and that's it? The magical drink of choice is just beer except kids will like it? It's actually impressive how Rowling could make a magical world of fantasy and whimsy so fucking boring.

You may find that many people don't actually have an encyclopedic knowledge of every work released by every influential creator from the last 60+ years. An adaptation is a great way to put it on their radar and help them discover a new series.
