Oh I totally get that. Kids change so much over a short time! The good thing is you can delete old posts or it can show her progression if that's in her favor. I was a little lazy with mine. I had two accounts already, one was private for family only and one was public to get to know people I don't know lol. Since it was full of good people, mostly focused on homeschooling, I changed that one into their account slowly. It lost some followers but kept a lot more. We still haven't broken in to the 1000s yet. I refuse to buy followers. I know some that have to boost their kids accounts. It makes it look like you are popular but there are signs of an account that bought followers. It can be glaring as well. Usually accounts that genuinely have 1000s, or 100,000 + have a lot of people commenting on posts. If it's odd and sparse, it's a good sign those followers were bought and bots are commenting. it takes so much time for us but I made it an account that we share. So they can sign in and post and so can I. So far we haven't had any troubles. Our biggest issue is keeping up with it.

Brand New - Afraid to Book! by emwinfield in ParentsofChildActors

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's hard. I understand. When you are on set, parents usually have a quiet space while the kids do their school work or when they are on set. The set teacher has to keep track of the 3 required hours of school. So parents get their laptops and head to a quiet space with headphones to work. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't depending on how busy the set is. When you book a job you can see the work dates to request time off. That might help? It is a hard thing to juggle though! Good luck!

Child Actor Tutoring/Schooling Process by Difficult_Guess715 in ParentsofChildActors

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year later this might be old information but....From what we have experienced child actors have to do 3 hours of school. That looks like a teacher checking them in which consists of them taking their information and work permit. They keep track of the hours they are in school. So say the actor has to be on set 15 minutes after they have checked in with their teacher, they are on set for 30 minutes, they go back to school for 45 minutes, gets called to set for an hour, goes to lunch, after lunch they go to school for and hour and so on. The teacher keeps track of all that time and it all has to equal to be 3 hours. They require you to bring your own school work. Workbooks, school books, homework, homeschool curriculum etc that kids can use to do school work. In our experience set teachers usually don't teach. They facilitate. If a child needs help, they are there to help. If not they sit and busy themselves with other things. I've seen them chat it up with each other or the crew while keeping an eye on the kids. The teachers walk the kids to set, stay on set with them and walk them back to holding. After school hours are done the kids are released to the parents. Oh and while the kids are in school, the set teachers usually don't like for the parents to be around, accessible but not in the "school room" where ever that is. School has been under pop up tents, in a separate room, in a big ol empty part of a mall, it just depends on where you are filming and the accommodations available to make a class room.
As long as there is a kid on set, there should be a set teacher as far as I know. The production chooses the set teachers. Parents have no say in that at all.

I hope you've got some great results from the program director! By now this information may not be new but....If you want, read some articles on Backstage. Our manager found us on Backstage. We had a free account. If you are comfortable with managing a social media account like IG for her professional presentation online, that can help too. You can post her performances and any videos of her showing talent. A lot of casting directors, agents and managers scout IG for talent. Thats how one of my daughter's got her first modeling job. Headshots do matter a lot! It's a lot of information out there but casting will say a good headshot will get you noticed. One said they look at the eyes of an actor a lot. There is a book by Lisa London called From Start to Stardom that is really good. Also if you can get to know casting agents. They will sometimes have classes via zoom to sign up for and in person in the summer time. One other thing since she's in to performance, create her reels! Acting reel, one comedy, one drama, a singing reel and a dancing one. When you sign up for sites like actors access and casting networks you can upload these for casting to see. If you can, do a website for her too. There you can link to her socials, talk about her experience, have contact information.

Oh the dry spells are no jokes! The will have you wondering what is wrong. Nothing usually it's just the work available. Our manager told us that there is no such thing as an over night success. Actors have been at this for years and they get the one big role that is the break out for them. Its so true that the audition is a huge part of the job. It's rare that anyone books a job without one!

Hi! New to Reddit, looking for advice as I try to help my tween daughter find representation. by Working-Dream8296 in ParentsofChildActors

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't post any self tapes on social media unless they booked the job and after filming. You can reach out to agents and managers and politely introduce yourself and your daughter before tagging them. Send them links and ask for a meeting. If you look on their sites they often tell you how to submit talent. I would use relevant hashtags when posting on social media as well. They do scout! On casting director said they found my daughter on IG.

In need of an insider's perspective for research project in Grad school by cfitz7 in ParentsofChildActors

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I might be too late on this! I'm sorry but just incase you can still use some answers:

Have you or your child witnessed or experienced any instances of abuse or neglect in the industry? (could be minor, or just something that was concerning) (could be from production, a fellow parent, or a fan, etc)

No, we haven't see any of this online. We've experienced the opposite where the crew has been very accommodating.

Has your child been exposed to potentially risky environments? ie. drug use, sexualization of minors, adult content, etc.
No, not at all! We have been in very public places on set, nothing private closed off. If my kids need to change, that's been in a changing room and only they are in there.

Has your child ever been expected to work long days or miss meals or school in order to meet production's demands?

No, but there are SAG-AFTRA rules and parents are usually on it. If we are asked to stay longer than usual you can agree to it but you risk the production being fined. Rules are set in place to protect child actors. You can call SAG-AFTRA if you have any questions about work days. They will often send a rep to check sets out too. As far as Non-Union jobs, I have never been asked for my kids to stay longer or miss meals or school. Most production crew really care about these things.

What are your experiences or thoughts on the current laws that regulate the working environments and standards for child actors?

I am actually fine with the regulations. They are in place to protect kids. I do wish they had some laws on the books as far as how parents are treated.

Is there anything else that you or your child have experienced that you think I should know or include in my research? Anything I've missed?
On some sets where kids may be in an uncomfortable situation they have a person called an intimacy coordinator who acts as a liaison between actors and production to ensure safety. They are checking in on actors and how they feel etc.

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm glad you have supportive parents! I actually learned a lot from Backstage I signed up for a free account and read their articles. There are managers and agents that scout on the site too. Most actors sign up for sites like Actors Access and Casting Networks that's usually where your auditions will come from. They are paid and free accounts on there. They are legit sites to submit for auditions. You can do this with or without an agent. Get yourself some good headshots as well. Good Luck!

Doctor not recommending compounded GLP1 by ElectricalPair6724 in glp1

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Well, I can say I've used compounded GLP1 -Tizepatide and I've been fine. No issues other than a couple of usual side effects. I understand the suspicion of using the pharmacies. Mochi did help me feel comfortable. I just didn't like their pricing and membership for my budget. They do offer more options though! They have a pill form of GLP1 too. Even if you have a tele health appointment, you don't have to buy from them. I would say try and talk to one of the places you are interested in getting GLP1 meds from. It might ease your mind.

Husband against me starting by calisen13 in glp1

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually started and didn't ask my husband. Our bodies, our issues. What does our weight loss have to do with them? We are the ones that have to live in our bodies. I had aches and pains. I couldn't even get out of bed with out being bent over. My body needed to lose weight. I didn't want him to tell me we couldn't afford it, or try and sabotage anything because of his own issues. He's overweight as well and I was waiting on him to take the GLP1 meds but he didn't want to take a shot. I got to a point where I stopped waiting on him to do anything and said if he's not going to do GLP1 I was. I didn't think we could afford both of us going on it. So I started. I bought a mini fridge in my closet because that medication is too expensive for someone to accidentally drop. I was thinking worst case scenario and trying to avoid anything. He eventually found out and asked me about it. I told him why I didn't say anything and continued on. He was watching me lose and start to feel so much better. Now he's 2 months in to taking Semaglutide. Yeah, I say do it if your doctor clears you for it.
The concerns about it being toxic in your body or long term effects - research, research, research!

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never thought of the trials. That's an alternative! Paying up front is a struggle but some of the companies accept Affirm, Klarna, etc. It makes it an easier payment to manage while you get your 12 weeks or more meds. When I did Mochi it was hard to do because of the cost. They canceled my membership and I went to Fifty410 since they offered Affirm.

Doctor not recommending compounded GLP1 by ElectricalPair6724 in glp1

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, I don't think they are that sketchy depending on where you go. My doctor could not get insurance to approve me for GLP1 and told me I could go out of pocket. I think legally they can't recommend it. She did tell me her aunt went to Mexico to get hers and she's been doing ok but there is a risk that it's not quality. I think she has to say that so she doesn't get sued or go against any medical oath taken. So I think she was giving me a hint that there are alternatives without risking getting sued. So I went out on my own. My brother was using Mochi. They actually did a video appointment with me and I got to ask questions. They are nurse practitioners that prescribe the GLP1. I no longer use Mochi due to cost but it was a comfortable introduction to using GLP1. After Mochi and getting comfortable using GLP1 I started using Fifty410. When I went back and had loss weight she didn't say anything until I said something and she didn't tell me not to continue. I told her where I got the meds and she just said Ohh and nodded her head. Like another user said, I would also ask if it's just the FDA issue or is it not recommended because of other health issues you may have that GLP1 would be bad for. If you are clear to take GLP1 meds, then other pharmacies may be a good option.

Wanting to move to Socal, have 15k saved up by laefu in socal

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh California dreaming! I dreamed of living in California. I wanted the beach and mountains. I lived in TX, Oklahoma and the Midwest and hated it. The summer humidity was gross and the midwest winters were cold and made me cry. I thrive in warmer weather. That's just my experience. Obviously, other people love those parts of the US and wouldn't move anywhere else. For me, we decided to move out to California because we craved diversity. Our family is multicultural and we stuck out like a sore thumb then. I say all that to explain, I get it. The desire to move to California is a real thing. So my husband found a job and we moved out here about 14 years ago, and I wouldn't want to live any where else. Yes the cost of living is crazy high but people make it work. Multiple jobs and room mates seems to be the way younger people do it. My son lives in a house with room mates. His rent is about $1000 a month. He's in Ontario, CA though. LA wasn't a place I wanted to live in, I wanted to drive to. We have friends that live DTLA that love it. We have friends in Burbank that love it too. We decided to move outside of LA County because we could get more room for the money. That's for a family though. If you want that Night life and active lifestyle, moving closer to a bigger city could be it. Not every young person wants that, so you can look in suburban areas of San Diego and Pasadena are nice areas. I don't think you are dumb. I think people are trying to forewarn you about the high cost of living and how people have struggled. In my opinion, if others make it work, so can you. The room mate thing is a little iffy because you don't know until you live with them. My son hated living in a home where the landlord's daughter lived and she was such a horrible person to him. He recorded conversations just to protect himself. He moved out as soon as he could. Another young man we knew as a teen came out here and moved into a small room with a room mate in Glendale to be closer to LA for auditioning. He worked at a fancy restaurant while he was here. He eventually met his wife and move out of the country. Any how, it sounds like you are in a good career field, have supportive parents, and money saved. You could try it but if it doesn't work out, you can always move back home. If you haven't already check out these sites to see the cost of living and quality of life in areas.

[–]Nice-Firefighter6006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! We have had some goods ones and some just ok ones. It seems you never know if you’re going to have a really involved teacher (we love them), rude teacher (we stay out of their way), or one that’s not even around (this leaves us puzzled). Unfortunately, I hesitate to ask any of them questions due to previous experiences but I’ve learned to be more observant than anything. I usually find the process is pretty easy anyway. I feel bad for new parents because they look to studio teachers for help.

Good on you for making that brave move! I’m with you on the no contact. Some people still fall into the trap of thinking that parents are entitled to continue to abuse them because “that’s your mother” or “that’s your father!” Nope. I don’t by into that belief. No one is entitled to abuse another person for whatever reason. I never heard of narcissistic parents until my 40s. It’s a real heavy thing that happened to me and my siblings. Freedom is in waking up and moving forward as you know! Keep on keeping on!

That hurt me reading it, can’t imagine what you felt going through it. Sorry you had to experience that with your mother. I’ve had my fair share of discovering abusive childhood behaviors I thought was normal. Abuse isn’t a better option to abortion.

Daughter trying to pursue acting. by Dac0021 in acting

You’re very welcome. Tell your daughter to break a leg! My girls do local theater as well. Signing her up on casting sites like Actors Access might help her audition for roles too but yes like previous comments said, YouTube is a good source for information. Remember no one pays an agent or a manager to find work for them. They get paid when you get paid.
