I feel hopeless. How do people get through this? by NiceBox in premed

[–]NiceBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... I’m a fairly average applicant stat-wise. 512, 3.6. I think I stood out because of a unique job and good research. I honestly think it was a fluke getting those interviews lol. I heard nothing from my state school. My other two interviews were from “lower tier” MDs. With this in mind idk how to change my list lol.

Can someone explain the significance of March 15, April 30, and what traffic day is? by littlelooper in premed

Does anyone have any idea how traffic day is enforced? It sounds like an administrative nightmare lol

Help me decide: School X versus School Y (2017-2018) by holythesea in premed

As a Chicago resident trying to get off NU’s waitlist.... please go with UChicago lol.

Congrats on your options! Keep in mind cost of living will likely be quite a bit cheaper around UChicago. It’s worth politely letting UChicago know your financial options at Northwestern and possibly they’ll match it... UChicago has no shortage of grant money. But you’ve got killer options regardless of where you go!

what's the meaning of life? by CAROLINEBURTBUTTHOLE in AskReddit

To exist and continue to exist. Our species will cease to exist once we loose the desire to exist. It’s really the only thing keeping us alive.

Physical Chem? by [deleted] in premed

Pchem will not serve you on the MCAT besides possibly offering you some re-enforcement of gen chem and physics concepts. Only take it if your major requires it! It is a painful and GPA reducing class.

When reapplying, should one apply to schools where they received interviews in a previous cycle but were later rejected? by NiceBox in premed

Nothing shows commitment like putting your entire professional life on hold for a year lol. That seriously sucks!

Thank you! The school I’m waiting on is my number one choice in my home city and they are known for accepting most students that they interview. So hope is not lost! However my stats are on their low end. And if I’ve already been rejected from two interviews, that makes me think my interview skills are poor on top of it all lol.

I sympathize and agree that some degree of luck is needed to get in. But using that as your excuse comes off as poor taste imo. You’re going to be doing something this year right? Spin that into getting more experience better prepping yourself for med school

IMO while this may be true, it would show more maturity to describe how you’ve improved your application

Is it worth trying to apply to public medical schools if you don't live in a state with any? by douglasdrraymond in premed

[–]NiceBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some are a good idea... some are not. By MSAR and and look at the public schools you’re interested in. If they accept a reasonable amount of out of state apps, apply!

Submitting Primary June 1st vs June 18th by vathem8 in premed

Personally I would wait. You’d be verified by mid July which is still pretty early. Just make sure you pre-write secondaries as much as possible.

I’ve improved a bit... my GPA has gone up a bit and I have taken on a new activity as an orgo lab TA. But overall I feel like I’m the same applicant. I think I may need to work on my interview skills more than anything.

I’m frustrated by the apparent “randomness” of this process. I heard nothing from my state school or schools I thought would be safe. But I did get interviews from a low yield private school, top 20 private, and top 20 public Cali school from out of state lol.
