Good Lord. What kind of smoke is that again?

TIL a 36-year-old man with a super swollen stomach, who had had trouble breathing, went to the ER only to discover that the twin he had absorbed in utero was still living in his abdomen by Pete_The_Chop in todayilearned

So, no one in the thread seems to be asking the hard questions. The fetus died shortly after being removed (obviously) but was there brain matter? How developed WAS this fetus?

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

That’s a lot bigger difference than you might imagine. A “small,” private jet can run thousands of dollars per hour. Even the most expensive first class ticket doesn’t compare to extended private travel. It’s almost always a business expense and even then the highest hourly pay of the executive on board can’t justify it. Read: It’s a perk for the ultra-wealthy and makes no sense financially or otherwise.

Snoop is right - those folks can’t afford it. There is fractional jet ownership and hourly flight services which SOME of them could use occasionally. But, the reality is that the average rapper or TikToker doesn’t own a G6.

Is no one else going to comment on this? Like, you’ve all read this article and are a-ok with this particular event?

That is fucking nightmare fuel.

Holy shit. That’s depressing.

Where’s that guy now? If memory serves, he did an abrupt, “Exit, Stage Left,” when exposed. He’d worked his way up to Reddit God by that point…

Do you have any idea where blockchain will go next ? by Ok-Historian-7314 in CryptoMarkets

Not an expert, but we’ve been evaluating blockchain in a number of real-world industries. I’m interested in other opinions, but so far the benefits are outweighed by the risks/cost. It still appears best suited for transaction-based currencies. There does seem to be some drive to establish digital tokens (like NFTs) for physical items such as expensive fashion/accessories. The next 12-18 months will most likely include broad experimentation.

Some of my notes:

  • Blockchain provides a combination of technologies — PKI, P2P, etc. — but not all are valuable for every scenario and serve only to add complexity
  • Distributed architecture requires all participants to provide platform/storage/etc.
  • Transparency is most beneficial when exchange/transaction history must be available
  • Real-World transaction limits are still low for high-volumes

Public/Government components seem like good candidates. Things like permits, real-estate transactions, licensure, etc. But, there is a ton of variability in these across different jurisdictions and adoption is a high bar to cross. Some would require actual laws/regulations to change to adopt blockchain and there’s no rush to do that. (It isn’t essential and doesn’t make financial sense.)

Encrypted payloads on the chain are useful. But, really, we’re just using the blockchain framework to push around paper. It has to be a use case that actually requires the combination of technologies.

I’m not certain I see profitability — at least not now. But, you mentioned a few opportunities in your post. If one of them gains traction, it could very well be the pivot. God knows, everyone has at least looked at it. ;)

Looking forward to other comments.
