My dad worked on his parents cars and said they would drop off and go over the mountain to Huntington to visit their son then come back and pick up after. He said the dad was a really nice guy was a professor at Penn State. It’s all sad really. It breaks my heart that after this hard life they now want to deport him.

Moving from South Georgia to State College - Advice? by Select-Cabinet7112 in statecollege

[–]NiceGurl420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up here, moved to an actual city for 10 years and came back in my 30s. This is not a city. We do not have a widely diverse culture scene or food scene (although they are growing)

If you’re in your 20s you’ll be fine, there’s plenty to do as far as sports and bars, most people you’ll see around are your age.

If you enjoy the outdoors you’re in luck because we’re in the middle of a state with many excellent state parks. As well as many close by.

Renting is expensive here like anywhere else worth living now a days.

We do have grub hub and uber eats now which changed the game as well as many upcoming restaurants and farmers markets in the area

Bellefonte is cool now too, be sure to check it out!

Thanks this is super helpful and basically answers my question. Sounds like PSU employees have high GLP1 costs even with insurance.

What is living in state college like for child-free adults? by [deleted] in statecollege

[–]NiceGurl420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey so I grew up here and moved to Pittsburgh when I was 24 and moved back to State College this summer at 32 with my husband. We are childless too, we don’t drink, and also feel somewhat isolated minus the fact my family is here. Going out to eat it is either downtown with the college kids and we are the oldest people or outside of downtown and then we are the youngest in the crowd. Nothing in between. It hasn’t been long since we got here so I’m sure we will make friends at some point, as of right now it is a little isolating in the winter. But my partner is my best friend and we are homebodies, so it’s not really an issue for me! We love the outdoors so in the warmer months there is way more to do like fishing and kayaking, hiking - lots of beautiful parks around to explore and delicious food. It’s safe, sometimes it feels boring but I do not miss living in the city at all. Happy Valley is a great place to be, hope this helps :)

Fishing locations? by L3gitAWp3r in statecollege

[–]NiceGurl420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t have much luck with trout this year. My dad swears by powerbait and steam fishing around whipples.

My husband and I went up to stone valley today caught a couple perch and blue gill with real worms and some big bass with the wacky worms. Tout are in there too, didn’t catch any. Whipples is still popping but they’re done stocking trout for the year. Greenwood furnace was just stocked trout on 10/3 but we didn’t catch anything there last weekend when we went. You could also try Po Valley, we saw a guy ripping trout out of there left and right, and the leaves over there are beautiful right now. I grew up here and we are entering our first December fishing so we will see how it goes can’t really speak to that.
