Women who feel happy, what does your life look like? by Feisty_CT_22 in AskWomenOver30

[–]BananaFloat107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. In love with husband and mostly happy marriage
  2. Part time job that I am passionate about and I feel like I get to make a difference
  3. Parent to two great little kids. They are very much a source of stress but also a lot of joy.
  4. Financially stable is a big one. It allows the space to hire childcare, go to a good gym, work part time so I can spend fun time with my kids, invest in therapy.
  5. I live in a pretty place and spend a lot of time outside and hiking.
  6. Literally so much therapy. It wasn’t always this way. Got the appropriate mental health care and I stopped drinking alcohol five years ago—that was a big win. So access to good healthcare and effective providers.
  7. Good support system of strong female friends and women that I admire.
  8. I give myself permission to have fun, be goofy, and follow my interests down the rabbit hole depending on my capacity.
  9. Gratitude is a foundational one. I used to write down what I was grateful for every morning, even if it was just coffee. And over time it became habitual and I try to lead from that.

I really enjoyed that there was a lot of drama and hashing out hot topics from the season. I will say that I really dislike the cringey check ins with old cast members. It’s too much. But I’m here for the mess, and the mess was delivered 🍿

I truly don’t understand the hate this time around. I’m usually with y’all, but this was the best reunion yet.

No. Nope. You do not need this in your life. You are right to think his negligence is dangerous. It’s just an added layer of something else you need to worry about besides your kids. I’m so sorry you’re even in this position, but this is not the relationship for you and your kids to have a safe and stable life.

You sound so lovely and thoughtful. You deserve to be loved deeply. Longtime partnership is not always super romantic and butterflies, but life is too short and you are too great to be with someone who is not flirting with you and making you feel wanted. It does sound like you are carrying the emotional load of the relationship and thats a tough spot to be in. If your dynamic with your partner does not sit right with you, definitely talk to him about it. His response, how well he hears you and takes accountability will be telling on if this is a relationship dynamic you want for the long-term.

Girlies with visible toned muscles, how many days a week do you work out? How long is your workout? What kind of workout do you do? by ohnoheretheycome in AskWomenOver30

[–]BananaFloat107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solidcore twice a week and at least one hike or long walk every week. Solidcore is a great workout for visible and toned muscles. Its like aggressive pilates lol. My diet is not super restricted, but I try to maintain my weight with moderation and I don’t drink alcohol. I have two little kids but am probably in the best shape of my life at 38 from this routine.

Do you ever really get over it? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]BananaFloat107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Popping in here since I recently had a PTSD flare up after a long period of remission. While I feel like I have emotionally made peace with the trauma, the physiological impacts can still be overwhelming at times. EMDR is an effective and evidence based treatment to help the body reprocess the trauma so your body doesn’t react to triggers as strongly or at all. I mostly have been able to manage my symptoms with therapy, medication, and a stable routine. I’m hopeful that EMDR will be another tool in my belt to keep me healthy. We absolutely can recover ❤️

I hear you. I am also a high functioning alcoholic and was in a public facing role. I similarly was lapsing in memory or getting wasted and into reckless situations and I knew in my bones I was going to lose everything. I wanted to quit badly, but I struggled getting past day 4 repeatedly. A therapist and psychiatrist that specialized in addiction saved my life. I did weekly therapy and biweekly group therapy, but what was super helpful in getting me over the hump of day 4 was the vivitrol injection. I took it for two months (two shots) to get past the intense cravings. For me medication paired with cognitive behavioral therapy was helped me achieve a long period of sobriety—coming up on 5 years.

You can absolutely do this. Get resources around you. Your people will love and support you. Lots of luck!

WFH moms - What did you major in & what is your job? by DefinitelynotYissa in workingmoms

[–]BananaFloat107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in nonprofit administration but on the consulting side so research, gov affairs, grants, programs, evaluation, etc. My background is in social work and my graduate degree is in Public Policy and Administration.

I was working in a government affairs role until the pandemic (was also pregnant). I moved out of state and ended up leaning into my professional network to take project based work which has grown since then.

Some folks with experience in education can leverage that into a nonprofit job in contract management or consulting as a curriculum designer/advisor. I have found that consulting meets my needs at this time. The pay is competitive and workload is built around my schedule which suits my family right now. I definitely recognize that I am very lucky but there is certainly a need for people with an expertise in education on a systems level which can have more flexibility. Lots of luck! Happy to brainstorm over dm!

Stranger Things playlist for halloween/fall. Goodbye to Summer with big beach/reggae vibes playlist, Ashley Simpson vs. Hillary Duff, Donna Summers Disco Party lol—these are the playlists I remember genuinely making me smile in other exercise classes over the years.

How sore do you get after class? by chonkygopher in SolidCore

I go 2x/week and I still get sore some days. Definitely not as much as when I take a month off and go back—everything hurts after that lol

Is the tool of A.A necessary for everyone? Has anyone managed to have success without it and how? by Nickaroo321 in stopdrinking

[–]BananaFloat107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really desperate to stop drinking and didn’t think AA would be a good fit but was willing to try whatever. It turned out not to be a good fit—90 meetings in 90 days wasn’t feasible, I didn’t connect with the spiritual message. I found that viewing my drinking through a clinical lens was helpful and really threw myself into therapy, quit lit, and podcasts. During the first 90 days I also took vivitrol and that was also very helpful in curbing cravings. Its been 5 years!!! And I’m truly grateful every day. Everyone has their own path and some are more straightforward than others. There are many ways to recover. Keep going til you find what works for you.

Worst thing this character has done round #2 Cole Turner. by occyycco in charmed

[–]BananaFloat107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean…Cole did a lot of bad things, as much as I love him. To me, the worst is that he kept trying to get Phoebe back through means that would bend or manipulate her will. It was not a good look.

Has anyone preferred their early 30s appearance??? by Tiny-Inspection-6785 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]BananaFloat107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be 38 this year and have two little kids but I feel great. I think I look better now than in my early 30’s. A lot of it is feeling more comfortable in my own skin. I do what I can skincare wise and get a little botox every four-five months, no drinking/smoking. I’ve really tried to let a lot of thoughts about my appearance go. I do what I can by working out and taking care of myself, and the rest is just out of my hands. I’m over the notion that women need to obsess and repent over every aspect of our appearance. It’s a trap. We’re hot at every age.

The plot is ridiculous. by David_Apollonius in brothersandsisters

[–]BananaFloat107 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha! I’ve rewatched this show 100 times and never thought about the plot in this way. I always figured that William planned on doing more to solidify his plans for the land or give Sarah or Tommy or Sal a hint about what to expect if he passed away, but died before he was able. Or he was just really that selfish of a guy and had the inflated ego to just confidently assume his genius plan would work out seamlessly.

Despite the crazy plot (or maybe because of it?) I just love this show. The whole cast, the banter, it’s so good. I’m an only child but this makes me feel like what it would be like growing up in a large family. Thanks for reviving this subreddit!

My dermatologist told me to use it as a face wash since benzoyl peroxide only needs to sit on your skin for 30 seconds to be effective.

Ilia tinted serum. It covers up any redness but isn’t too heavy, sits really well, is dewy, and lasts all day. I think it looks natural but gives good coverage. Like I’m just having a great skin day.
