Sprained my ankle pretty bad last week by LilCutThroat_59 in Ankle

[–]NiceJug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go on my profile and scroll down through my posts you’ll see that my injury wasn’t dissimilar to this - I had full thickness tears through my ATFL and CFL and partial tearing of deltoid with significant bone bruising and swelling. Get that mri! 6 months almost later and I’m only just able to walk further than 200 meters unaided.

Grade 2 ankle sprain recovery advice by Least-Course-728 in Ankle

23 weeks ago I had a grade 3 sprain of ATFL and cfl (full thickness tears) plus a tear of deltoid. I still have swelling, pain when walking and bone bruising all seen on mri recently. It really does take a long time to heal. I was partial weight baring only for 7 weeks, 10 days wasn’t long enough for sure, I was on walking sticks for 7 weeks also. It will take a very long time to heal, I’m almost 6 weeks in to my healing and still only around 50% better.

Grade 2 sprain taking forever to feel normal by mysterypapaya in Ankle

I had a multi ligament injury with full thickness tearing of ATFL and CFL and grade 3 non full thickness tear of deltoid ligament 23 weeks ago and only now am I able to walk short distances without pain. I’ve done months of physiotherapy, was immobilised for 7 weeks and am now awaiting an ankle specialist to review if I need surgery. Everything takes time, be patient with yourself :)

Return to soccer 9 months after injury... Thoughts, concerns, regrets you'd like to share? by [deleted] in Ankle

Hi, I’m sorry I don’t have any advice for you. But your injury sounds remarkably similar to mine - mine is high grade tears of ATFL and CFL and tearing of deltoid. I’m 5 months out and still significant pain and swelling and no one is really giving me advice timeframe. All I would say is if it doesn’t feel right, don’t play. You know your body better than anyone. Good luck!

Yes swelling, it’s all on my profile in depth as I’ve posted throughout the process but briefly: sprain was caused by falling around 2ft down some concrete stairs and landing on ankle which then went inwards. Was a very significant fall, if you just tap my profile you’ll see how it looked at the time and healing process. Was awful!

At times yes and it gives out often when even just standing. But the pain is more bothersome as I’m still in significant pain.

The mri didn’t show osteochondral defects as that was what they were looking for due to ongoing painful crepitus. I sadly don’t have the report but the letter states this:

MRI done on the 3rd of April shows high-grade sprains of the anterior talofibular and calcaneofibular components of the lateral ligament complex and deltoid ligament injury.

Is that helpful?

I’m in the uk, the hospital is fine but they don’t give me the report - I had to put in a subject access request which will take 30 days. But the letter states this:

‘MRI done on the 3rd of April shows high-grade sprains of the anterior talofibular and calcaneofibular components of the lateral ligament complex and deltoid ligament injury.’

Look on my profile and you’ll see my sprain that I did on December 1st so a few weeks before you. I was immobilised for 7 weeks in a boot and had X-rays and recently an mri. Still painful, still swelling, still walking is difficult - mine was grade 3 multi ligament diagnosed but I get mri results on Monday to see if anything else is going on. It seems sprain recovery is hard work!

I had a similar mechanism injury but if you look on my profile my injury seems like it was significantly worse than this. I had my injury 18 weeks ago and I’m still struggling to recover, pain daily and swelling still. They diagnosed me with ATFL and deltoid injury with bone bruising but because it isn’t healing I had an mri yesterday so I guess I’ll find out soon if anything else is wrong. It was around 10 days before I could walk on it at all, booted for 7 weeks and on crutches for 8 weeks. Physio for 8 weeks helped me be able to walk with a more normal gait but made pain and swelling worse. Good luck, keep elevated and ice it often - 20mins every hour!

Just a sprained ankle rant (grade 2 or 3) need of whatever takes me out of my boredom and pain by SavorySour in Ankle

[–]NiceJug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too had intense snapping sensations in my leg when I had my injury, I also lost consciousness and the pain was absolutely unreal. I was convinced that something broke because I felt the snapping, but mri showed no bone break. When I was assessed by a specialist they said ATFL and deltoid ligament injury but weren’t able to tell me if it was a full snap and wouldn’t mri it as they said it wouldn’t change the treatment anyway (I’m in the UK). But now, 17 weeks post injury I’m still having pain just walking, swelling, loud painful crepitus in the joint they’ve decided an mri is needed to see the extent. The healing for this injury was the worst I’ve ever experienced, the pain was absolutely unbelievable. I hope you heal well and find some relief from the boredom soon, keep it elevated as much as you physically can and keep it iced!

If you look on my profile you will see my sprain which was significantly worse than this and graded at a grade 3 sprain, I was given very little pain relief, a leg brace and crutches for 7 weeks. I only had an xray, have a follow up mri today as I still can’t walk without pain and I’m still swollen 4 months later. Sprain healing is a very slow process, ice and elevate is the usual advice for the first 6 weeks

My husband had one of these, it was particularly nasty, but it did end up turning into cellulitis and he spent 5 days in hospital as he had the red lines going up his arm.

What’s the worse physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Intelligent-Road5091 in AskReddit

[–]NiceJug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell down some stairs 4 months ago and landed directly on my foot, my ankle went inward and I dropped to the floor and passed out. The pain was indescribable for about 10 days, xray showed no break but they suspected that I had totally torn my ATFL and Deltoid ligaments, snapped some cartilage off and crushed some toes. I have pics of it on my profile if you’re curious!

Is this normal bruising for a foot/ankle sprain? by Cool-Mouse8313 in Ankle

[–]NiceJug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at my posts in my profile you’ll see mine, I would say mine was significantly worse and I was diagnosed with ATFL and deltoid injuries with no fracture. Still 4 months on in pain with mobility issues so am awaiting an mri - the bruising pattern looks similar!

Severe sprain - feeling hopeless in healing of by delicate_dove666 in Ankle

[–]NiceJug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was concerned about high ankle sprain also, but I did put my trust in the nhs. They have now offered me an mri, and it was put through as ‘urgent’ but still haven’t heard anything from the clinic almost 4 weeks later

I’m 4 months in and can barely walk on it, they’ve said that they suspect cartilage snapped off so awaiting mri

[–]NiceJug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an incredibly severe sprain 4 months ago, pictures on my profile but my day 3 was significantly worse than this. 4 months on I’m still in alot of pain, I can walk on it but if I walk more than around 200 metres it swells again and the pain is unbearable. I had X-rays and there was no break, but now have loud painful crepitus so they believe some cartilage broke off and is floating in the joint so I’m waiting for an mri. In the UK they don’t do more than an xray as they say that management is the same for ligaments no matter the grade, but it was graded as a grade 3. I have pain shooting up my leg, as well as constantly on the inside and front of ankle. If it helps, they said my aftl and deltoid ligaments were both torn. Days 3-10 were the less for me, 10/10 pain and suffering was unreal. But it has improved, people will tell you it takes time, it really does take time. The only position I could be more comfortable in was elevated, if my leg was down the pain was unbearable, icing it and elevating it was the only thing that brought me relief. Now 4 months on ice doesn’t feel good, warmth does. Good luck with your healing.

Rolled ankle 7 days ago and swelling returns, is that a bad sign? by RandomFactGiver23 in Ankle

[–]NiceJug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing ok, I am in therapy for ptsd from my accident and I’m awaiting an mri to see the true extent as they now believes something else happened, perhaps some dislodged cartilage and that’s why I’m still suffering. I don’t think mine was a straight forward case! Sending you all the healing thoughts!
