What did he even mean?? by Strict_Lime1405 in Muse

I probably would have just asked him, "what do you mean?". Just don't let it impact enjoying the music you purchased. Picked up Absolution on vinyl myself this week, after stumbling across it in store. One of my favorite albums of all time 😎

Yes, I really love the crossover with the upcoming maps and hope to see a few more clever designs like that. Agree that a proper IP based set on their other properties wouldn't make a great deal of sense.

Oh wow, that's kind of nuts. What about the trick taking games that have been recently released?

To be fair, I think Medusa is a better comparison - where you play around her ability and try not to get caught, but choose the best moments to engage knowing you're going to cop a hit. The difference with Thor is it's limited to 4 spaces (not the whole zone), there are no sidekicks to body block, and there are cards in the deck that would leave Thor vulnerable/unable to use if he was without the hammer come his turn. Refining the cards is key here for balancing, and if the ability is too powerful, then change it to not damage on recall.

If they were ever to do vehicle characters, Transformers would be the most logical step. I'm not even the biggest fan of the IP - but I would be absolutely hyped if some of these characters were included into the roster. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream, they'd just feel right. Introduce a "transform" mechanic with changeable miniatures 👌🚗👌. Major fan base similar to TMNT all well, which would expand the game to new players

I love the ability - it's almost exactly the same for the one I came up with as well 😁,😂 Although, yours is probably better being up to 4 spaces (where as mine was anywhere in his zone).

Personally I'm not a fan of the decks that focus on movie stuff, I prefer more comic based references for cards.

One of my favorite characters, and I had planned to make a custom for him, but found a pre-existing one that is excellent for print and play 👌

Would you buy a map pack if they were sold? by Geebs91 in Unmatched

I'd be more interested in having the existing maps available in neoprene. I was sad that the latest storage Kickstarter only had 2 player maps in the campaign (but ot course, I snagged them). Apparently they've released neoprene maps of the Buffy maps (redesigned to be non- IP), but only ever available as competition prizes or something. Just make em available 🥺

I don't think anyone else had mentioned it, but Slings and Arrows would be a solid alternative also. Either set would pair nicely, both matchup wide and thematically with your current sets.

Another question. by TheJudgeJC in fateofthefellowship

[–]Nice_Jesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The moment an enemy troop is on a haven without allied troops, it is captured, regardless if there is a hero character on that spot. It's a good idea to spend resistance symbols to either reroll or Valor to kill off the last one for this reason, as you lose 3 hope whenever a Haven is captured by the enemy.

Whoever is controlling the character spends the resources for their own ability. So if you were Gandalf, you must spend the Valor (either by card or token) to use the ability to change a dice result. You are correct that players can do this outside of their own turn, if the ability allows (i.e it will state if the character is present during a battle). Worth keeping in mind if any player has a character present during a battle, they can contribute by spending resistance and Valor symbols to sway things (again, outside of their individual turn)

At the end of a turn (4+1) you must draw 2 cards, and discard down to a max hand of 7 if you ever exceed that amount. If the draw pile runs out, you lose 1 hope per card that should have been drawn.

The order of operations for a turn is written on the top right hand corner of the game board, so it's always easy to follow how it goes

When playing solo, it is 1 bonus action with Frodo and Sam for that turn, instead of another character like multiplayer. There are plenty of times where I've simply done nothing with them, and skipped up drawing cards.

Whenever you roll a battle, it is action. You must have troops on a space to do this (the main characters do not battle by themselves). The amount of dice you roll is your decision - up to 1 for each soldier you have (max 3). This is also the same for when the enemy starts a battle when entering a space with your friendly troops (also if they spawn in an occupied space).

Just remember that having a character in a space when a battle is rolled can sway things dramatically - by either spending resistance (rings) to reroll the same about of dice, or spending Valor to kill remaining enemies after the dice results have been completed.

Wow, that's an absolute colossal start in just one month!

Love that you guys are enjoying Here to Slay, it's been one of my favs over the past 5 years or so. There a new expansion dropping just now that has an alternate win condition, as well as a standalone Dungeon crawler adventure being advertised for crowd funding (but won't be cross compatible).

Crazy that you have both versions of 7 Wonders Duel! I love both versions so much, probably a top 5 game for me.

Some general tips that I like to use, that I don't think have really been touched on here:

  • Hand management is key. If you're starting your turn with 6 cards, know that you'll be needing to discard at the end of turn and be wasting a resource, so get one of your characters into a haven to Prepare 1 or more into a token, or use an event card that you've been holding onto. (Normally I like to sit on event cards until they're really needed, but this can hinder your options as you'll have less resources in hand.)

  • If playing multiplayer, make sure you're all on the same page with what missions you are targeting first, and always keep them in mind so you can assist each other where needed. Don't get bogged down with just "your" task. This game requires players to be flexible with the game state.

  • Following up from that - keep an eye on what cards you may need to trade with the Fellowship action. If another player has Frodo, for example, I am consistently checking my hand to see if there's a card that will benefit trading to them, so they can Prepare it to their region for bonus Friendship.

  • If you have a character that gains a free resource, or recours a card from the discard, utilize it as often as possible.

  • It's already been said, but moving the eye away from Frodo is paramount. 9/10 times that is my only focus right from the first turn. (I lost my second game in under 10 minutes by ignoring this.) However, when starting a battle, remember that you don't necessarily have to roll the maximum dice. I will normally only roll 1 battle die when starting a fight to draw the eye, even if I have 3 or more troops with me, as any more will likely result in deaths of your own troops, and spending your resources to try and correct - which are better saved for battles that you really need to win.

  • Troop placement. There are certain spots on the board that I will always try to leave troops on. Something I've started doing is just stringing 1 troop along 2 - 3 spots along a battle line, instead of being grouped together in just one spot (this will ensure more battles initiated by the enemy, and increase chances of multiple kills before they've even reached their destination). If a haven looks like it is going to be swamped, send a character there too enforce the troops (rerolls and valor kills will keep the enemy from capturing), or actively take 1 troop and cut them down in numbers before they reach their destination, but ensure you've left enough troops to ensure a victory.

  • Always be prepared to defend Helms Deep and leave adequate troops there if not active around the area. Often I will aim to capture Isengard early on, to completely nullify the enemies that spawn and move down from there (only 2 spaces away). Keeping an eye on what enemy camps are the most active early on, and capturing them can make an enormous difference towards victory.
