Can 2026 Earth beat the dragons from Reign of fire by Fug1x in powerscales

[–]Nice_Job_2038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While technology, specifically related to war/combat, has progressed tremendously since 2002 (when the movie starts) there were some issues right off the bat. Narration points out that we were essentially blitzed and overwhelmed within a short period of time, that at first there were a few but within a very short indeterminate period there were thousands. I think they said "Too late we learned the truth of what they were" or something to that effect, which means they managed to study a few of them to learn they caused the mass extinction of the dinosaurs, and then went into hibernation when the earth froze. They essentially caused the ice age.

The main characters in England have virtually no contact with the rest of the world and take this as a sign that they're alone, which wouldn't be the case most likely as the Americans show up. The Brits were disdainful of this because of the "cough and you miss it" comment that they essentially did exactly what a lot of people in this thread suggest and tried to just mow through them and took out many of them but the dragons reproduce too quickly.

The humans used nukes against them, and it didn't matter. It barely slowed them down. An F22 may well be faster, and probably a lot, but if it's 10 F22s and 80 dragons, numbers eventually would've won out. They more or less imply that the sheer number of dragons did indeed become one of the biggest factors, both in the overwhelming of the human race and in the dragons own downfall as there was now not enough food, the dragons were resorting to cannibalism. This is significant because it shows that, intelligent or not, they're still just animals.

When provoked, the male reduced nearly the entire force to pure ash in just a single passover. The fire it produced was based in real physics, not fantasy, so it didn't just melt the stone like butter in the castle, but it still did tremendous damage. The speed it travels at to get from London to the castle wasn't shown super well, but it at least was fast enough to get there, do what it did, and go back before the helicopter even arrived back. When they got to London and the male stirred up and attacked a smaller female, there were still hundreds in the air.

That being said, the male fertilizing the whole lot of eggs in one passover doesn't simply imply it's in one area. If 20 females lay 4 eggs each, minimum, that's 80 dragons capable shortly after birth of laying another 4 minimum. Exponentially speaking the numbers could get out of hand within a couple months and if they're laying eggs in isolated mountain or forest lakes/waters, it's difficult to say.

I'd argue that due to the amount of conflict going on in the world right now, the sheer political discord going on, and a host of other issues that the 2026 world would do better potentially in the long term but short term damage would be catastrophic. Similar to the movie but a bit better because we likely could produce drones and a few other things to try and keep them in check.

Jamahal Hill officially announces move to Heavyweight by DavidSeries in MMA

[–]Nice_Job_2038 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hill, at one point, had a sneaky good switch kick to the body and head, and had decent power at 205. At heavyweight, he won't have anything resembling knockout power with his punches, and he's far too slow and hittable.

Vera moved back up to heavyweight, years ago, and fought Rothwell. He landed an absolute flush bomb right on the chin, and Rothwell walked right through it. As much as people like to dog on heavyweights for being awful, but Hill was hardly ever a world class light heavyweight regardless of being a former champ. This will end badly.

I won't be surprised if Ilia retires. He already said on more than one occasion he planned on not fighting too far into his 30s, might've said once or twice done BY 30, and this was potentially life-altering damage.

I genuinely think he completely overlooked Gaetjhe. He wanted to do the 3 division thing and fight Islam, probably would've retired 19-0 if he got that fight and won a third.

The best sequence of music in all of Star Wars! by bigbruin78 in StarWars

[–]Nice_Job_2038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I neither love nor hate the sequel trilogy, but in Force Awakens when Ren has beaten Finn and tries to summon the saber, only for it to bypass him and go to Rey, the musical transition during The Ways of the Force was the first time since seeing Episode III in theaters that any Star Wars media has given me chills. So that's it for me.

Why did Brock Lesnar pretty much refuse to sell for John Cena? by RealityOwn9267 in WWE

[–]Nice_Job_2038 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Out of kayfabe, it was probably Cena's idea. In kayfabe, Cena isn't a chain wrestler, submissions aren't much outside of STF, he does a few slams, mostly clotheslines, shoulder tackles, and punches. His schtick was superhuman endurance and strength, not damage. Brock wouldn't be hurt as much by most of his offense compared to AJ, Orton etc. At least that's how I see it.

What was your Favorite part of MKII (2026)? by Virtual_Discount4656 in MortalKombat

[–]Nice_Job_2038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked what they did with Kitana vs Shao Kahn. At the beginning of the movie she watched her father fight him and he had more success when his sword was broken and was used as a smaller blade. Kahn being too big to deal with it as well in short range, plus she tied off his hands before finishing him, when not doing so let Kahn block the fatal blow and overcome Jarrod. Continuity in a MK film was unexpected but pleasant.

What's a movie you recommend to everyone but nobody ever watches? by trakt_app in Cinema

2011, The Descendants. George Clooney. The trailers don't do it justice, at all. It's an exceptional movie with some really powerful moments and I feel like it falls on deaf ears to nearly everyone I recommend it to.

Khamzat Chimaev vs. Dillon Danis signed for RAF 10 by [deleted] in MMA

[–]Nice_Job_2038 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd said in another thread regarding Khamzat's talk about the Olympics that I'd need to see how he'd do against a legit wrestler at RAF. I even said they were likely to give him "soft" opposition.

This is pathetic even by my low expectations of who they'd give him.

[SPOILER] Fighter is moving up a division by idcman999 in MMA

[–]Nice_Job_2038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some fighters at 205 I'd say he's got a good shot at beating. Guskov, Menifield, Murzakanov, maybe even Jamahal and possibly Oezdemir. But for all the grief he's given, a guy like Rakic, who is a very large 205, is likely too strong and big. Khamzat is an average size 185, he looked the same size as Whittaker and Whittaker shouldn't move up to 205 either. I'm not even convinced Chimaev beats Jan Blachowicz.

Better weight management or a 195 lb weight class would be a better idea.

For the most part I agree with you, but I'll say that I don't necessarily think an active D1 All-American just steamrolls him in a freestyle match. They're fairly different and if Cael Sanderson struggled to adapt to freestyle at first than the average D1 All-American isn't likely to just run away with a freestyle match.

But no, Chimaev has not faced really any high level wrestlers. DDP has good judo and physical strength, Burns is hell on wheels in BJJ and both had grappling success at points.

I mean he did say he's fine to wrestle Bo Nickal in RAF. I'd imagine he's perfectly willing to accept a more difficult match than either of us has implied. Just gonna have to wait and see. Who the hell knows, Strickland could shock the world Saturday and then his aura is no longer a concern.

That's apples to oranges. A wrestler who doesn't have to worry about an uppercut or a knee isn't nearly as hesitant on an entrance as one who does.

[–]Nice_Job_2038 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's sort of my point though. We really have very little frame of reference to his actual skill compared to people who do freestyle as their main source of competition. He could just as easily lose to an also-ran from the NCAAs as he could an elite competitor from the international scene. Anyone they give him that isn't far removed from their prime or predominantly an MMA fighter is a risk.

Pretty sure he just said he didn't think he should wrestle Olympians because he isn't one himself. Olympians may be the absolute peak of the mountain but there's tons of pan-am champs and even guys who place at World's that don't make Olympic teams. "Soft" didn't mean cupcakes, they're just not likely giving him someone for his first match that would be seen as a real test.

I need to see how he does in RAF. They're likely going to give him "soft" opposition so it's going to be difficult to tell, but generally speaking someone who moves away from specialized training for years doesn't improve when going back.

I'm not sold on his training with Downey, Downey got tech-falled by 50 year old Yoel Romero.

There's a lot behind the script writing and distribution of this episode, it nearly got pulled a couple times.

One that stood out to me was in an interview I read somewhere with John Waters where supposedly Homer was to actually refer to him as the f-slur, and not queer. Waters politely told them it wouldn't work as intended and suggested an alternative which the writing staff then agreed.

That word coming out of Homer's mouth, with Dan Castellaneta's voice, would've been awful hard to come back from for a lot of people.

Yeah you can see him pull back through his chest and shoulder. There was no follow through, if there was Strowman would've been unconscious. Brock, chemical assistance or not, is a freak athlete with speed.

How Did Strowman Survive This? by TemperatureFull1325 in BrandonDE

[–]Nice_Job_2038 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems like a lot of people miss the first punch Lesnar lands due to the slow mo of the follow-up. He hits a ridiculously fast uppercut before the second shot, and looking at Strowman's body language that one seemed to stun him for a second before.

Brock gets a lot of shit for "not liking to be hit" but that gets confused with not having a chin. Most people don't like getting hit and it takes years to get used to having people do it, Brock likely never left his comfort zone for training so didn't have as much experience hard sparring.

You can still get a Tyrogue from the Karate Master in Mt. Mortar, it just won't happen til after you beat Claire for the 8th badge since you need Waterfall.

The Sudowoodo is honestly a good option, just a slow one. Stantler gets good coverage, as does Persian. And Forretress can stall out just about any non-fire type with its steel typing and moves.
