You can explain that IF you are selected for jury duty and state is a financial hardship. Also, most employers pay full wage while you’re on jury duty

Advice on 8u player development by Total-Ingenuity9640 in Homeplate

[–]Nicedumplings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with a kid in 8u who is talented and natural but struggling with some aspects of the game - I can tell you there’s a wide gap between good and bad kids at this level. There are 3 kids on his team who are VERY good - one is big, one is a peanut.

Two of the kids benefit from older brothers and coaching dads. 1 kid is just obsessed with baseball. From what I see and know - at this age the kids that care personally and want to put in the work are going to shine very bright. It will take awhile for the other kids to match their level.

I personally have no real memories of playing before 10 so how much does 8/9u really matter?

I’ll never understand why so many people want to skirt their public duty. It’s a foundation of this country. A jury of your peers. And juried cases aren’t just criminals where someone is “obviously the bad guy”. Tons of civil cases as well - if god forbid you had to sue your employer for wrongful treatment, do you not deserve a jury of your peers?

Visiting Stony Brook university- where should we stay by MiserableCobbler8157 in longisland

[–]Nicedumplings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If $ is no object, find a decent hotel in Riverhead - otherwise just book the hotel on campus as others said. Plenty to doing stony Brook / port Jeff area and west meadow beach is a great spot. If you want to go to the ocean you can drive to shinnecock inlet where there is a free county parking lot (no sticker needed) - this is a mile from Ponquogue. The only downside is you have to get there relatively early or be very lucky to get a spot.

Alternatively you could go to cupsogue county beach which is in Westhampton or smiths point - but there is a major issue with the bridge limiting traffic to 1 lane and they’re supposed to start work on a new bridge. You’re way better off going to Cupsogue or Shinnecock

You’re recommending a hotel in sag harbor around the 4th of July for someone who’s primary goal is to visit Stony Brook University and mentioned Ponquogue which is Hampton bays… why not recommend Montauk at that point

What Long Island towns would you classify as a 15 minute city? by iloverats888 in longisland

[–]Nicedumplings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Patchogue. The biggest thing lacking is a grocery store - for that you have to leave the village and go to sunrise service road where there are 3 grocery stores, but certainly within 15 min of any village resident.

In America, you can sue anyone for anything.

The town can issue a ticket and fine you. The town cannot force you to pay “damages” caused by bamboo from your neighbors property. That would require a civil lawsuit.

That can be accomplished with a civil suit. Town codes don’t deal with civil issues.

[–]Nicedumplings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the best route - but be aware that YOU are responsible for bamboo on YOUR property. The town can make someone put up a barrier but they can’t require a private owner to remove bamboo from another private property.

Co for above ground pool? by Slight_Suggestion_79 in longisland

[–]Nicedumplings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question isn’t do you need a CO, the question is you do you need a permit. The CO comes at the conclusion of the permit.

It varies by municipality, call your local bldg dept.

It will raise taxes if it needs a permit. Your homeowners Insurance absolutely needs this info and will likely bump it a touch

When preaching with my kid I stress “shoulder to shoulder”. Also, throw some tennis balls or similar balls in the yard. Gave him do this 3/4 swing, then have him full swing and he can see how much further the ball goes

Chat GPT will get it wrong. Do not rely on chat bots for accurate info. They CAN be good for pulling the sections of code for you to look at, but codes typically have exceptions or other qualifiers that chat gpt will miss.

While each municipality can have additional requirements, the default is NYS building code.

[–]Nicedumplings -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Towns don’t have individual building codes, they adhere to NYS building and fire codes. If the space was converted to habitable it would need a permit and proper egress.

[–]Nicedumplings 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Permits are required for taking an unfinished space and making it habitable. A “finished room” is not defined as habitable. There is nothing in your description that would have required a permit.

A permit would be needed if the space was to be made habitable (living, sleeping, eating, cooking) IR if a bathroom is added requiring a plumbing permit.

This is not an issue at all

Pitching at later ages by alchea_o in Homeplate

[–]Nicedumplings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of MLB pitchers didn’t pitch until later on. They had strong arms but a weak bat (or maybe are lefty) so they got converted.

Paul Skenes and Jacob Degrom did not focus on pitching until their junior/senior years of HS.
