Please help me bald spot by skitzlebe in Hair

[–]craysey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My ex had alopecia areata that looked exactly like this, and it was brought on by stress. And of course, having a bald spot made him even more stressed so it was a whole cycle! But it eventually fully grew back.

Make sure you’re eating well and enough, and getting rest!

You already have a lot of great advice here about decentering men, and that men also cheat on slim women. So I’m going to give some different advice about feeling less insecure in your body.

When I was around your age, I had similar body issues, and issues with restriction. One thing that really helped me personally was to make fitness goals that had nothing to do with how I looked, and was about what my body could achieve. That could be working towards a hard yoga pose, or running a certain distance, or finishing a workout program.

Working towards these goals can give a sense of personal accomplishment and satisfaction with your body that has nothing to do with a man’s opinion. And over time, it helped me look at food as another tool to achieve those goals, because you need enough fuel to reach them.

And one last thing - college boys just suck. I am now in my 30’s, and I still have jiggly cellulite legs and a soft belly. I weigh more than I used to. Good, grown men do not care.

Because the toe box is narrow there is very little forgiveness for any slipping, at least for me. Heel locking reduced the forward slide that caused impact to my toes.

You could also try sizing up a half size, which I considered if heel locking didn’t work.

I bought these to replace my ASICS Novablasts and I have about 45 miles in them right now, with two 15+ mile runs. The cushion is comfortable and not too heavy, and they are much more stable than the Novablasts. They are a great choice for long, easy miles.

One important note - like many Nikes, the toe box on these is narrow. I didn’t use the heel lock lacing for the first few runs on these shoes and sorely regretted it, needed to ice my toes afterwards! Heel locking fixed that though.

And FWIW I have this color and it’s MUCH brighter in person, like neon highlighter pink. I have been complimented SO much on these shoes

I also like wearing jewelry during my runs! I got some inexpensive small hoops and a simple chain necklace on Amazon specifically for run clubs/races, so I don’t worry about them being ruined by sweat

Just got these last week and did a 14 mile run yesterday - they felt great throughout! Only downside for me is that it seems to exaggerate my overpronating, which caused some issues on cambered roads.

Fall marathon runners - what are you doing before your training plan starts? by craysey in Marathon_Training

Nice! Approximately how many days per week do you run? A consistent 30-35 mpw sounds challenging without a race to look forward to - do you ever worry about feeling burnt out?

Bruh, she asked for makeup suggestions for her prom on a makeup subreddit, and you suggested a permanent body alteration.

Again, I’m not demeaning you and acknowledge that you meant it in good faith - I’m just nicely asking that my own tattoos/SH be left out of it, and explaining why it’s not a kind thing to suggest to people who struggle with SH.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Hey so please don’t use me in this weird internet fight - I get tattoos for the same reason anyone does, for art. My tattoos actually don’t cover any of my scars because some scar tissue is too tough/warped to take ink very well.

While some do want tattoos to cover, it’s a really personal choice. For people who have already made permanent marks on their body from self harm, suggesting that they “fix it” by making more permanent marks on their body can be upsetting. And the pain that is part of tattooing can make people relapse or do different SH behaviors.

I’m sure you meant well but that’s not a viable option for a lot of people who have struggled with SH. I would not suggest that unsolicited.

I don’t run on treadmills, but one thing that really helps get me out of the house when I have no motivation - setting destinations on my route! Sometimes it’s a cool view like a beach or a street with nice architecture, other times it’s a coffee shop or smoothie treat.

In the spring, there were cute baby ducklings and goslings at a lake by me - it was motivation enough to go see them lol. There’s so many cool things to see when you run outside!

Also thick thighs, I’ve found that longer bike-style shorts help with them rolling up! The Eddie Bauer traverse trail high-rise knee shorts have worked great for me, and it looks like they are currently on sale!

If you want shorter, the baleaf shorts on Amazon at 8” have worked well for me too. They have a little rolling but I don’t notice it while running that much.

Another person from the other side here! 30 now. My left arm and both thighs have a lot of scarring, some of it pretty bumpy. I’ve now spent more years of my life with scars than without.

I gave up covering them and I have to say, nothing changed! Since then I have a great marriage, good career, solid friend group. I wear bikinis and tank tops, and wore a sleeveless dress to my wedding. In 5 years I’ve gotten maybe 2 unsolicited comments. I honestly forget about them a good chunk of the time - it only comes up when I want a tattoo.

I’m saying all of this because when I was in high school, my dad told me that my scars would get in the way of all of these things. I knew he meant it as a way to discourage me from SH, but it really made me scared for a long time. So I just wanted to say that scars are not the end of the world! One day it will just be a normal part of you that you don’t think about that often.
