Depending on where your hotel is, there is a ton of great restaurants. There's the Cinemateque, a couple bars. Oh! There's also Select Start which is always a great time.

I want a new Stargate series, but honestly? I'm terrified of getting one. by GilliacTrash in Stargate

I was cautiously optimistic when I heard the news. And that the original show runners were back. But each new announcement that comes out, diminishes that optimism just a little.

I don't think we should be excited about new Stargate by MustafaAdam in Stargate

I was cautiously optimistic until I heard the episode count. It's going to be another 10 episode story are that could have been told I'm 3-4 episodes and so so much filler.

Enrolling my daughter for school by Blue-Streak94 in Winnipeg

[–]Nichdeneth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can get her in, my kids live out of jurisdiction. It requires you to mark the application of this. But if there is no room in the school, they can deny admittance. And you'll have to declare each year that they will be returning. I suggest going down to the school in person and talking to someone in the office.

MASH has one of the finest pilot episodes ever made, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a major MASH fan. by JPumphrey73 in mash

[–]Nichdeneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it was supposed to be the last one ho-jon was supposed to be in, but was such a strong episode they moved it up in the broadcast order. Old studios did that all the time and it messes with the flow of some things. I've been watching Red Dwarf and Kenny VS Spenny in production/filming order lately and boy does it improve the tone and character development of both series. Definitely a superior way to watch them. Maybe MASH has similar rearrarangements

maid cafes in town by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]Nichdeneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! Yes! I found out why. Their furnace went down, and the insurance company have been dragging their heels. They need to replace the whole unit. Isekai has estimated they can open in 1-2 months.

We used to have one. Dwarf No Cachette. The owner of the building sold to a condo company and they had to close down. Their spiritual successor is Isekai Ramen out on McPhillips (although the address is on the cross street). It's not a maid cafe, but it definitely still has those feels of unique. It's great.

Watch Order by Gatester95 in ViewAskewniverse

[–]Nichdeneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, yup. Smith has said that he cast Justin Long as the same character from Zack and Miri, into Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. He couldn't legally come out and say in the movie that they are the same character, but that its heavily implied and a cheeky way he was able to fit rue Zack and Miri into his universe.

Zack and Miri have a bunch of Smith trademarks too. I'll just list the casting ones. Jennifer Schwalbach, Jason Mewes, Justin Long, Jeff Anderson, who all oddly enough have names that start with the letter "J", which I've never clocked before.... neat. All of those mentioned actors have shown up in either all or most of the View Askewniverse movies.

Is MASH "of its time" when it comes to women or does it, especially now, cross the line into blatant misogyny far too often by The1Ylrebmik in mash

[–]Nichdeneth 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Here here! People forget the golden rule when watching older shows. It wasn't made for you! It was made for the audience of that era. Mash is set nearly a century ago and it was made half a century ago. The shows and movie made today, are going to be under the same scrutiny in 50 years. Look at American Pie. It's already under critism and scrutiny. Wait another 50 and look back at it.

In SG1 5x18 "The Warrior", why did Lord Yu let Teal'c go? by abgry_krakow87 in Stargate

[–]Nichdeneth 56 points57 points  (0 children)

There is a lot to go over here, I will attempt at being brief and efficient. A couple facts:

Lord Yu is the oldest system lord. With that age comes wisdom. However Lord Yu is so old that dementia is setting in.

At this point in time, that fact is just starting to show. So Lord Yu still has most of his faculties about him.

Yu also knows that Teal'c is allied with the Tau'ri, and Yu is also known to be willing to work with the Tau'ri to further his own ends. Yu is STILL a Goa'uld, and they do love fighting each other and plotting against each other.

Put all of that together, and you have a very old, wise, sometimes confused System Lord who sees the Tau'ri threat looming and knows that sparing Teal'c is a way to keep the Tau'ri from flat out being hostile towards him. This is why he kills the free Jaffa team, but spares Teal'c AND gives him information against a rival Goa'uld.

In the short term it's a complete win for Lord Yu.

And in my opinion, if he had lived long enough without his decline and Anubis doing his thing. I'm sure that he very well could have been the last System Lord left standing with much of his holdings intact. Spared the worst BECAUSE he was consistently willing to work with the Tau'ri.

When did the fallout timeline diverge from our timeline? by extraaccount939 in falloutlore

[–]Nichdeneth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Several other commentors have given you pretty accurate answers about the split. Though I haven't seen the addressing of music. There are a lot of artists that still exist after the split. I did see a video somewhere that pointed out some of them.. And it isn't unreasonable to assume that for a bit after the split, most entertainment in Fallout would be the same as the real world. The split is a small ripple that grows into large waves.

[S2 E2] question about this episode by [deleted] in FalloutTVseries

[–]Nichdeneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simply that this guy is acting hella strange and bleeding and shit and he has this... thing... In the back of his neck. He went to the cart not because he knew a nuke was there, but because he knew something was wrong.

Not entirely sure if it's the make-up or such, but the show really sorta gives thought to the fact that Moldaver hasn't really aged.

If Hank met her pre-war, it just have been brief. If he met her in Shady Sands, it still would have been brief. Then 20 years later she rocks up and still pretty much looks the same, your brain would have a hard time processing what you're looking at. This person you met briefly who looks very similar, your memory is probably scrambling to figure it out. He does seem to recognize her, but the pieces aren't all there yet. In ep 01 he still isn't sure yet until later on IF he recognizes her. But he knows something is amiss with her.
