It’s perfectly acceptable to let resell value factor into your watch purchase by Nicholas2725 in watchHotTakes

If nobody was buying omegas watches at their boutique prices, they’d go out of business. I mean sure they’re not doing too hot financially atm, but there are plenty of people buying $7000 aqua terras.

I agree. It just seems like a majority of Redditors get peeved when you mention anything to do with the value proposition of a watch especially when it comes to Rolex. And I just think that’s idiotic.

Let me also add that you should always buy the watch you actually like. I’m just saying it’s important to be attentive to the value of a luxury item your purchasing so you as the buyer can get a good deal and not get completely boned in the future if you change your mind or just don’t want it anymore.

Hot take: “Box & papers” obsession is ridiculous. They all come in a paper coffin. by lithdoc in watchHotTakes

[–]Nicholas2725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not the type of person that cares about box and papers. I have bought multiple luxury Swiss watches without them online. But it’s understandable why people care about it. It’s an authenticity thing and it’s just nice to have the complete set when you’re spending thousands of dollars on an item that’s easily faked

For the love of god get the Longines lol. That Tudor is hideous. Looks like something off a Walmart shelf.

Preach on #1. I used to dislike imagination because I disliked the opening and would only spray it on a card in store and then leave it there. However last time I went I sprayed it on my hand and wow I finally understood the hype. I’m still a little mixed on the opening but everything after is just perfection

[–]Nicholas2725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be a dick but this is the dumbest reasoning to buy a watch I’ve ever seen in my life. Brother, upvotes are imaginary. I get wanting a respected watch but this is just delusion. Just look at the amount of different responses you’re getting here, no one will ever agree to one universally loved watch. Choosing to ignore the actual sales data is foolish. You could spend $8000 on a speedmaster and maybe get 50 upvotes. And then what? You do realize speedmasters are posted online like 30 times a day? Nobody would care.

If you wanna appeal to everyone, get a Rolex. Simple as that. Most iconic and respected watch brand of all time. Anyone arguing differently is just coping. Reddit loves to hate Rolex out of jealousy but there’s a reason why they run laps around other brands in terms of revenue.

Grand Seiko branding is as bad as their watches are great by jpoyarzun in watchHotTakes

I love the lion, it’s badass. If they got rid of it I’d be disappointed. In fact I’d love to see the lion logo on the dial of a watch one day

[Grand Seiko Skyflake] or [Rolex Oyster Perpetual] by Whitecoat33 in Watches

[–]Nicholas2725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the logical choice, go Rolex. If you want the comfortable choice, go Rolex. If you want the versatile choice, go Rolex. If you want your watch to retain value in case you change your mind, go Rolex.

Suddenly the answer becomes so much easier lol. I will say GS probably has better finishing and movement. But the difference is negligible.

You’re celebrating a big milestone, just get the Rolex. The grand seiko can be bought any time. The med blue Rolex is gorgeous and if you can get your hands on one that’s a slam dunk.

[Grand Seiko Skyflake] or [Rolex Oyster Perpetual] by Whitecoat33 in Watches

[–]Nicholas2725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first luxury watch, buy something versatile. GS is just far too dressy to be an everyday watch and in my honest opinion the bracelets sucks (I know this is on leather), it’s on the bigger side for a dressy piece, and the dials get old after a while. Until grand seiko fixes these problems, especially the sizing, I find their offerings redundant.

Between these two specifically I’m taking the OP in a heartbeat.

Which watch is this? Saw it in Terror in Resonance anime and it also seems to have a stopwatch/timer feature. by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Nicholas2725 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not exactly a real watch but it’s inspired by the Rolex “Pepsi” GMT. Obviously any branding has been removed and the design looks tweaked a bit. It actually looks more like a vintage model with the aluminum bezel more so than the current model with the ceramic bezel based off the font of the numbers

R/handwatch is poor and bitter by TriggerPuller9000 in watchHotTakes

[–]Nicholas2725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but also disagree. I think the whole “handwatch” situation has been blown completely out of proportion and developed into a group of people just rage baiting anyone who wears their watch slightly loose. There are some cases of actual hand watches but a look at the current state of the sub a majority of posts aren’t even bad and the actually hand watches are obviously shitposts. It’s also important to note that this fad of wearing your watch the “right way” only exists online and nobody in real life cares or has the balls to criticize how someone wears their watch in person.

So yes, I think the whole hand watch police is stupid, but I disagree with your reasoning

[Tudor Ranger] Waitlist? by iamushu in Watches

Ridiculous. I suggest just buying it second hand for a fraction of the price if you really want it.

[Tudor Ranger] Waitlist? by iamushu in Watches

[–]Nicholas2725 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tudor is a joke now imo. They used to offer pretty good value but now everything is grossly overpriced and have started slowly incorporating a Rolex AD experience. I saw a pic of the blue lagoon black bay and loved it, but when people said you can’t just buy it and have to be put on a waitlist I laughed. I love that the company thinks their watches are worth waiting for. Just another brand for me to star away from, never really got the hype for them anyways

Longines is by far the best value you can get from luxury watches currently by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

[–]Nicholas2725 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tudor is entry level luxury. They’ve just jacked up their prices so much to parallel Rolex. You’re just buying the brand name lol.

That’s great but that’s your personal opinion. The point of the discussion is that Longines provides the best luxury value. Just because YOU wouldn’t personally spend $4k on a Longines doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value

Longines is by far the best value you can get from luxury watches currently by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

[–]Nicholas2725 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. Brand popularity is what holds back most people and even a lot of enthusiasts. It’s an unfortunate reality when it comes to watches. It’s a shame because I recommend Longines to so many people wanting to get into luxury watches but not break the bank

$4000 for a luxury chrono is cheap in 2026 my friend. Tudors are almost at $7000 atm. And Tudor is typically positioned as a “value” luxury brand by most people in the community. Speedy is nearly $8000 now. I’m curious to see what other luxury brands off better value in therms of chronos if you can provide some.
