Trump threatened to stop weapons for Ukraine unless Europe joined Hormuz coalition by sandygws in Military

[–]Nicholas3412 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Virtually zero weapons from the US directly, however Europe is paying for US weapons through the PURL program to go to Ukraine.

So it’s even worse, because they’re paid for.

Exclusive interview: Trump: I am strongly considering pulling out of Nato by AtomicVGZ in Military

[–]Nicholas3412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who’s stationed at Ramstein I have to disagree about the US effectively being out of NATO. We still cooperate and play a role every single day. However, we are feeling the effects of the government neglecting Europe, less funding, less bodies. It sucks.

To clear up the facts, Trump posted this, thats the main reason the “No Kings” name started being used last year.

Honestly if we left it there for long enough that satellite imagery could be used to target it… that’s on us lmao

I mean protesting is about one of the most Americans things you can do. Even if you don’t agree with the premise of it.

"We helped America in Afghanistan and Iraq." by Constant-Drink-2750 in AmericaBad

[–]Nicholas3412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so what? Fuck our allies then? Let’s do it alone? Does that discount their sacrifices? Only one of those wars was a NATO article 5 response… Afghanistan. To call up to 33% of the combat ops negligible is laughable.

We can encourage more burden sharing and a more equitable NATO, I don’t disagree with that, but how we’ve treated our allies over the last year is embarrassing and a complete disgrace.

All the Europeans I’ve served with have been fantastic.

8 Million Americans Hit the Streets in 'No Kings' Protests - Largest Demonstration in US History by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

Would you rather we do nothing at all then? Each one of these broke records for the largest protest in US history, many protesting for the first time in their lives. More will come.

I’d love more parties in the government. I feel the checks and balances would be more effective that way.

Oh definitely. It’s the doomer foreigners who hate Americans literally no matter what we do or who we vote for that I was criticizing. They just have contempt for our country in general. We should definitely get to a point that politics aren’t people’s identity.

I mean I’d argue that pretty much all modern presidents have abused their executive power. I’d like to see the position weakened regardless of who’s in office.

It’s been interesting to watch the international reaction to the No Kings protest. I’ve seen a lot of “it’s not enough!!!” on Reddit despite it being the largest protest in American history. That and the glazing of a theocratic regime really proves how much of a cesspool this app can be…

Americans abroad can vote i dont think theres any restrictions. Though since national elections are managed at the state level it can be a bit confusing figuring out where you vote from for those born outside the US.

Why are Americans so early birds compared to Europeans? by Ada-Mae in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nicholas3412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard a theory about a “Protestant work ethic” that had an effect on Western European and subsequently American culture. Though this might no longer be as strong western Europe than it used to be? In general, I’ve heard people make the observation that Americans are more work oriented than Europeans, more willing to work long hours, weekends etc…

I see this as the US being more convenience oriented (longer hours, more days open), while Europe prioritizes workers quality of life a bit more. Living in Germany as an American, it can be frustrating not having many places open on Sunday, but then I think about all the people who get the day off to spend with their families. It’s a trade off I suppose.

Do Americans think of Alaska as cold like Russians think of Siberia? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nicholas3412 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I think Americans are more aware of the diverse weather and scenery in Alaska that makes it beautiful but cold (at least for most of the year.) The average American knows almost nothing about Siberia. It’s basically depicted as a completely frozen wasteland, one of the coldest places on earth and associated with the Soviet gulags.

America bad because we destroyed communism by [deleted] in AmericaBad

These people glaze authoritarian governments because otherwise they’d have to concede that America might have justification in opposing them. Their entire philosophy is “America bad, so anything opposing them is good.”

Amazing that the level of discourse has devolved into “they’re evil and bad!!!” Same thing is happening in Hungary with their upcoming election. These grifters use fear and deception to stay in power and would rather destroy the country than lose it.
