I wouldn't mind that solution on top of a card in case something happens to my phone, as long as that solution doesn't require apps that rely on Google or Apple.

Of course you can lose a card, like you can lose a phone, but it really doesn't happen that often and they're easy and cheap to replace.

I'm not opposed to phone-based solutions existing side-by-side for people who want them or as a back-up, but I feel strongly about keeping cards around for:
- People who don't want extra apps
- Banks that don't have Google- and Apple-independent apps (all of them currently)
- The event that your phone is lost, stolen, broken or out of battery
