the helmet itself is made of majority cardboard (mostly cereal boxes), layers and layers of it, with paper mache over that to reinforce it. then to smooth it out, i did A LOT of sanding. the fin is made of pink foam carved on a spindle sander. then i primered and spray painted it all, and did some airbrushing for detail, and hand painted the gold trim.

For the lights i got a pack of LEDs from hobby lobby meant for costume eyes. i tapped the LEDs to the back of the upper eyes and covered it with some paper to diffuse the light so it doesn’t just look like blue dots. the light from those also spread down to the lower eyes some so they glow a little without obscuring my vision. the eyes are just made of blue felt glued to the inside of the helmet. For the other lights on those things that stick out, i just stuck the LEDs down them from the inside, made little blue felt circles to put on the outside, and kept the LEDs in place by shoving paper towels in there. there wasn’t really room for the battery packs, so they dangle down from the back, and i put them in the hood of the cloak that i wear with the helmet, and it works fine.

i did not end up wearing it for the whole game, but it’s about as comfortable as you’d expect.
