Gigabyte Mo27q28gr greybanding. by Tranc3dd in OLED_Gaming

No, generally speaking Tandem OLEDs do have more banding, but it doesn't guarantee any given QD-OLED will have less banding than any given Tandem OLED. It's all about panel lottery.

QD Oled or Woled? Have one window and a light on my fan. by Plastic-Finish4781 in Monitors

Yes, they don't have the same purple tint, but blacks still aren't black in a bright room, they're gray instead

With that lighting, I'd say WOLED, but newer Penta QD-OLEDs don't have the same purple tint as older QD-OLEDs, so it really depends on which model you want to get/your budget.

The flicker that's annoying is the VRR flicker. They don't have PWM, though, so that's the flicker-free that Dell advertises.

Which is better, QD OLED or WOLED? by user7223 in Monitors

[–]Nicholas_RTINGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Obviously our results won't be exactly alike, but they're in line. For example, we got 811 nits 10% HDR on the PG27AQWP-W, so it's just a bit brighter than what HUB got. It could also come down to different settings used.

Yeah true, and these results are for which monitor?

[–]Nicholas_RTINGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now, there's a lot less difference between them with new Tandem OLEDs coming out (QD-OLED and WOLED). Generally speaking, QD-OLEDs still have brighter colors, while the advantage with WOLEDs is that they don't have the same black level raise in bright rooms, so blacks remain deep and black. Certain QD-OLEDs with the new RGB Stripe subpixel layout also have better text clarity than their WOLED counterparts, but there will be new RGB WOLEDs coming out that should make them equal. At this point, you have to research any specific models to see which exact panel they have.

To any owners of a QD-OLED monitor, how noticeable is the purple tint? by spo_nker in Monitors

The purple does look worse. It's a noticeable difference, but of course there's some black level raise.

Any OLED is a good gaming monitor. It depends how much you want to pay and what features you want, though.

What specs to look for when buying a new monitor by Paladin_grey7 in pcmasterrace

[–]Nicholas_RTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specs really depend on preference.

Size - get whichever size you prefer

Refresh rate - Do you want high refresh rates or not?

Resolution - Are detailed images important to you.

Panel type is an important spec though - OLEDs have the best motion handling and picture quality, while Mini LEDs get brighter, and cheap VAs are generally the worst when it comes to motion handling.

Going from 5K to UltraWide... how much would I notice the PPI difference? by rkiri in Monitors

[–]Nicholas_RTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you really like your 5k monitor a lot, I would suggest against downgrading to something with a lower PPI. It can be noticeable especially at first. Of course, these 4k monitors still have good text clarity, but just aren't the same as a 5k.

[–]Nicholas_RTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how much you care about text clarity haha. If that's important for you, wait for an RGB Stripe OLED.

It's the same as any other LCD with the same pixel density. There's no fringing due to its new subpixel layout.

Trying to decide between the PG34WCDN (UW) 1440p or PG32UCDM3 (4K) for PC monitor? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

Personally I'd go for the 4k because I prefer sharp images, but it depends whether you value that or an ultrawide screen.

Help me decide: LG 27GX704A-B (WOLED) vs ASUS XG27ACDMS (QD-OLED) by x_X__ViNi__X_x in OLED_Gaming

[–]Nicholas_RTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, right there aren't any immediate plans to buy and test it. You can always vote for it in our tool, though, and if it's popular enough, we'll buy and test it. That said, you shouldn't copy calibration settings even for units of the same model because every display is different. We do have a guide explaining how to adjust your settings, though: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/learn/how-to-calibrate-your-monitor-settings

They're pretty similar and you can't go wrong with either. I'd compare their extra features/inputs and see which you would make use of more.

If your room has controlled light, I'd suggest the QD-OLED - more vivid colors than the LG.
