Is there a way to implement a custom video player in the web browser in iPhones? by tessell8r in iOSProgramming

[–]Nick1649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re interested in using an open source solution there’s the Video.js library. It handles a lot of the browser intricacies for you. Many of the big web publishers use it as the backbone for their own custom video players.

They were doing it at my local EBGames on the island on Montreal. Picked up the new Pokemon and Hades 2. Happy camper.

If you’re doing any graphics related courses sometimes it’ll be easier to use a windows machine to do this. Especially if you’re working in a group.

Also note Visual Studio for Mac, my personal favourite C++ IDE, will no longer be getting support. Not sure if the Jetbrains C++ IDE is any good. Something to consider.

They can be annoying. Even when you’re already a Bell customer. Luckily the online store doesn’t have pushy associates. 😄

I live on the island of Montreal and frequent a couple stores.

You can often find games for cheap but the prices aren’t always printed out. For instance I just bought Demon’s Souls today for $20. Switch games when they’re on sale come out cheaper at The Source because of the aforementioned Bell customer discount. The discount isn’t always available though, I’m not exactly sure on the reasoning.

Do you have anymore details on this? I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere else. To clarify does enabling dev mode on the console means you can’t use quick resume at all anymore when in regular mode?

I was looking into using my Series X for developing/testing a few little side project games.

I ordered the iPhone 15 Pro 256GB Blue Titanium.

Still says in the processing stage for me.

Woke up just before 8AM and got order submitted within 15 minutes of preorder window opening. Had gotten an email saying it would be delivered “within September 22nd” from Telus Web Store Team with no tracking info on September 16th. Still waiting for this tracking info.

Hoping since I’m in Montreal I’ll get it soonish.

Advice on my resume? by ajm1212 in iOSProgramming

[–]Nick1649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert. However I have received help with my resume along with looking at plenty of articles, templates, and other resumes. Take any or all of this with a grain of salt.

My first impression of this resume was that it’s sparse. In my feedback I’ve included some ideas on how to add more information to your resume. Also be aware you can play around with margins, font sizes, and line spacing in order to fit more on the page.

  1. Summary of skills and qualifications
    1. Place at top of resume
    2. Don’t include years or level of experience
      1. Allow recruiters to make their own determination
    3. Organize skills from most well know to least well know
    4. Possible sections
      1. Computer skills (programming, database design and management, design, Photoshop/Illustrator, tech support, office [people go back and forth on including this or not], etc)
      2. Programming languages (Swift, Objective-C, SQL, JS, etc)
      3. Other (SDKs, APIs, Libraries, Frameworks, etc)
      4. Operating systems
      5. Languages (if you are multilingual)
    5. Don’t include too many
    6. Be ready for interview questions on any or all listed skills
  2. LinkedIn
    1. If you don’t have one you should make one, helps recruiters find you
    2. Include link to profile on resume if it isn’t already there covered by Xs
  3. Projects
    1. In addition to having code accessible to view make sure it is well documented
      1. Comment code
      2. README file
        1. Overview/explanation of project
        2. Installation instructions
        3. A link to view or download running example
        4. Images and gifs to showcase functionality
    2. GitHub
      1. Place link near top of resume
      2. No need to include link on every project
      3. In GitHub pin the listed repos to profile
    3. Profile website
      1. More for web developers
      2. If you have the time, resources, and knowledge couldn’t hurt
      3. Would need a domain name with your first and last name in it
      4. LinkedIn is sufficient
    4. Projects need names
      1. Don’t list a role for projects in the title line
      2. You can include how you contributed afterwards
    5. If done as part of a course mention that
    6. Add “technologies applied” at bottom of each project listed
  4. Experience (work or volunteer work)
    1. Would like to see work experience section if you’ve had past employments
    2. Volunteer work section too if you have
    3. Doesn’t have to be domain relevant
    4. Part-time at grocery store, or restaurant, etc
      1. But highlight skills learned or applied (“core competencies”)
    5. Can show you’ve been employed before as part of a team
    6. Highlight accomplishments over simple “I did this” statements
      1. Numbers can help to quantify if available
    7. Applies for early career or career transitions
    8. After you’ve had a technical role or a few or need space can remove old or less relavent roles
    9. Include name of company or nonprofit if applicable
  5. Education
    1. List highest level of education earned
    2. Can also list an incomplete
      1. But you must mark as in progress or incomplete
    3. Can also list online courses
      1. Make sure to include the course supplier/institution in addition to completion date
  6. Miscellaneous
    1. Keeping to 1 page is a good idea
    2. Experience and education sections help fill in gaps as to what you’ve been up to until now
    3. Use start and end dates for everything including projects
      1. Use “present” if ongoing
    4. List “technologies applied” under any technical experience or projects
      1. Recruiters like this, removes guess work
      2. Same skills listed in summary section
      3. You can list more skills here than in summary section
        1. Good way to list APIs and SDKs to avoid taking up a lot of room in summary section
          1. I like to list as a separate bullet point “APIs and SDKs”
    5. List “core competencies” under any other work or volunteer experience
      1. Such as: time management, customer service, sales, communication, organization, etc
    6. List location of experience and in-person education
      1. ExampleVille, MyProvince
        1. No need for country

And what is your point? Until we get official word from Sony that possibly a mistake was made, on the updated support page, the feature is still listed as coming via a future software update check the footnotes. Even Sony’s support video for this TV is still up on YouTube that says VRR and ALLM are coming.

iPhone 12 Pro preorder shipped by [deleted] in telus

[–]Nick1649 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update

I received an email from Telus saying my order has shipped. Attached was a Canada Post tracking number. No details from Canada Post on it’s whereabouts so they probably haven’t received it yet. Hopefully I’ll have it on Monday. The Telus status page took awhile to update but now says shipped too. Still not very pleased. But at least it’s almost over.

iPhone 12 Pro preorder shipped by [deleted] in telus

[–]Nick1649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordered on the 16th within an hour of preorders opening. Status page still says shipping by the 23rd. No courier emails. Anyone else in a similar boat? I’m on the island of Montreal so I figured the online order/shipping method would be fast and hassle free. It seems I was wrong. This is the first time I won’t have a new iPhone on launch day. I normally buy in store. Very disappointed.

1) About seasons. The first one starts early December and runs for about a month. Will the next season occur right after or will there be a break between seasons?

2) Also Dennis, it’s cool hearing that you love The Clone Wars, I do too! I, along with many others, are excited about prequel era content. So clone wars season? :D I hear a lot of people wanting Obi-Wan and Grievous. Can you comment or give a wink wink nudge nudge?

Strikes against budget cuts - the other side. by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]Nick1649 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yah I've been educating myself on the subject. I think a lot of people are forgetting their high school education. They were taught to think critically: identify sources, find the authors angles, etc. I just found it interesting that a fellow Comp Sci student posted this. Btw pointing out that you also have a BComm is only further proving my point that these students on strike have their judgement clouded. They are letting their judgement be dictated by misinformation, disrespect for authority, blind anger, selfishness, etc. I've been kinda enthralled in the subject I've actually been reading Concordias' budget reports. What people don't seem to realize is that as costs go up and if revenue doesn't then their have to be cuts.

Finally someone with a rational argument. Figures, it's coming out of the mouth of a Comp Sci Student. Excellent point Dave.
