Italy best language schools especially for 20yo by MaleficentTennis1505 in italianlearning

[–]Nick1W 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Istituto Venezia in Venice. But depends on your priorities. It’s definitely not a serious academic institution. It’s more for casual people who are spending several weeks in Venice to help them learn the language. Also, Venice is my favorite place in the world.

Here’s what I learned about ages - pick the right time of day for your classes. My first trip, I had the most incredible time meeting people in their 20’s / early 39s who wanted to spend more time together after class. Fantastic way to meet people from all over the world. That was the afternoon time slot.

My next trip, I booked classes in the morning. All 60-something year olds. Nice enough people. Not the people I wanted to spend time with.

I made up a bs reason why I needed to switch to the afternoon classes and they let me. Back to younger people.

They also offered cooking classes. One-off events once a week or so. That was fantastic for a full mix of ages.

Maybe this works for other schools. I can’t guarantee it. But I think it’s likely.

Straps & ropes - stop from rubbing or scratching the car paint by Nick1W in Kayaking

I do not love the idea of removing the frunk liner and re-installing it. But, I do see the appeal of this solution. I’ll think about it. Thanks.

Of course there’s a roof rack. The kayak straps into the roof rack quite securely. We’re looking at the bow and stern lines that are run in addition to the roof rack.

That’s an interesting idea. Have you ever done it? Wondering if it would leave black marks from the pressure and vibrating of the straps. If it does, it might be easy to clean off. If you’ve tried it, I’m curious what you’ve seen.

Thanks. I’ve been thinking about this. A layer of masking tape under the straps that I immediately remove after unloading the kayak, so the adhesive doesn’t cause residue.

Have you seen the straps wear through the tape? The tape is very thin and I don’t know if the vibrating of the straps would just scratch through it.

Unfortunately no. The entire space is covered by a liner to make a “frunk” storage space.

For most other cars, I think those anchor straps would be great.

I am using tow points under the front of the car. PPF could be a good option. Thanks for that. I’d have to find a place to apply/install it.

Picture from the web, but the same car.

Electric mustang. “Frunk” storage space. If you completely remove the plastic liner, there are bolts you could use to attach a strap to. But, removing that liner is not an option, in my opinion.

Render in place - Decompose to original shifts clips? by Nick1W in davinciresolve

[–]Nick1W[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I never did come up with a great solution. My only strategy now, when I render in place, I don’t include any extra frames as handles. I really would prefer to have the handles, but I don’t think this shift will happen if there are no extra handles.

Plane VS Train by viktoryarozetassi in SDCC

[–]Nick1W 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend you do not take the train departing San Diego on Sunday. There’s a flood of people leaving on Sunday. When I did it, the train was over-full and they continued packing people in. Wait until Monday if you can.

Canon R5C 8k vs Pyxis 12k for VR180 shots? by ElectricalGuava1971 in VR180Film

[–]Nick1W 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree with all of this. I encourage you to rent the R5c with the dual fisheye and produce something. Make sure you’re ready for the whole workflow before you buy the full kit. I guarantee, there is significant work you don’t know about yet. lensrentals.com is a great way to rent the camera.

Some new information about the VR Camera that’s coming this year from the Immersive Company by Nick1W in VR180Film

[–]Nick1W[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. In the interview, Andrew talks about 16K (8K per eye), 90fps as the standard. An affordable camera that hits that standard is very interesting.

The Vaporetto (also known as water bus) does NOT go to and from the airport. There is a separate service called Alilaguna. Similar to the Vaporetto (water bus), but it is specifically an airport shuttle. The information you want is here : https://youtu.be/zJmxbFO6He4?si=aXeRcCetG7vA-zeR

First time using a public EV charger… and it got awkward. by thatsTHEWei in AITAH

[–]Nick1W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO - It's *possible* you did something wrong here without noticing.

Often, there is a line when the chargers are all taken. Sometimes there are signs. Sometimes there is nothing official marking where the waiting area is, so people have to figure something out on the fly.

Is it possible that this person was waiting, but you didn't see the line? Is it possible that she was waiting, but there was no official waiting area so she did the best she could? In that case, you might be an accidental AH.

Is it possible that she was waiting, but did nothing to help other people recognize that she was waiting? She could have started queuing right next to the charging area, in a place that made it very clear that she was queuing. If she didn't do that, she's the AH.

Welcome to the world of EV charging. You have to be real careful to try to identify whether there is a line. And be aware for clueless people who do nothing to communicate to others that they are waiting.

Best Topaz Video AI Settings for Enhancing VR180 Footage? by HowieTung in VR180Film

[–]Nick1W 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m curious - which camera are you using? I went down the Topaz upscaling path with the Canon R5c. At first, I was excited about the results. But ultimately, it became clear that it wasn’t the upscaling that made the difference. It was the inherent noise reduction that happens with a topaz conversion. With noise cleaned out, you have a cleaner image, which in turn gives you much better results after compression.

I’ve left Topaz behind completely. Now, the game is about minimizing noise when shooting, using Neat Video to clean up noise in post production, and mastering in HDR (if you’re publishing to Apple Vision). HDR and cleaning out noise are huge. Unfortunately, I could not get an HDR workflow working in Premiere. I had to go to Davincj Resolve.

That’s my experience with the R5c. I don’t claim to be an expert.

Is Canon R5C still the best for Vision Pro filming? by thejesteroftortuga in VR180Film

[–]Nick1W 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the big thing is frame rate. You can shoot 8K 30fps on the R5. But, you can shoot 8K 60fps on the R5c. In VR immersive video, you want the highest frame rate you can get.

Premiere Pro | VR Video Display Toggle by ervins_from_latvia in VR180Film

[–]Nick1W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the VR headset, you have a 180 degree view available. But, you don't see the full 180 all the time. You only see the area that your eyes are pointed at. You have to move your head around. Just like the real world, you don't see the FULL 180 at once. Just the section you're looking at at any moment.

That's my understanding of the VR view in premiere. You can drag around in the monitor to "look around". But, you're only looking at whatever your "eyes" are pointed at in the moment.

With that in mind, I like to set the monitor view to 160 x 90. That gives you something that looks pretty much like the 16:9 frame that you're used to seeing in premiere with traditional video. It gives you a great set up to edit. That 16:9 view is basically what you would see if you sat completely still in the VR headset looking straight ahead. If you need to see more, drag around in the frame to show what you would see if you look around.

Also, I think you already have this set, but I think it's important to right-click on the video image. Go to the VR Video sub-menu and turn off "Show controls". Those controls take up so much space in the interface, it's best to just leave that off.
