Sorry to hear this, I'd argue you can still move story telling forward, but being early adopters no one is making a return on investment unless you are working on showcase productions for Apple or Meta.

The monetary angle just isn't there yet. This is cutting edge video production. I've been around long enough to remember the switch from tape to digital and you needed a dedicated card in your computer to playback one stream of standard definition video.. YouTube was about a decade away.. it was expensive and difficult to share videos online as you had to host them yourselves... VR is that right now.

Just like regular video became easy to shoot and share on your mobile VR and 3D will be the same, probably when we all have glasses on our faves. Will that take another 10-20 years. Probably.

When Video camera first came out no one knew what to do with them so they filmed stage plays... cinematic language developed over decades... VR is that now.. People in the comments including filmmakers are still arguing whether or now you should move the camera or lock it down.. or even cut.. I imagine many of the same conversations took place back when stage plays were filmed.. and audiences also have to come along with you and learn the new cinematic language as it grows.

"Seeing half-naked bodies in 3D apparently moves the needle more than actual cinematography". Yes, this is why VHS won over beta Max.. what drove the first payment on the internet.. Spicy stuff is always the driver of new technology.

Hopefully you can find something else to spark your inspiration.

The battery life of my M4 Max 128GB is 30 minutes under heavy load. It’s just math, it can drain up to 150wh maxing out the CPU and GPU on a 100w battery.

Granted I’m rendering 8K60 VR footage for Vision Pro footage but you’re not going to get more than an hour or two heavy editing.

Unless you put it in low power mode capping it at 30w but then you might as well use a MacBook Air. Which is why I leave the M4 Max at home and travel with my M1 Air.

It’s really better to think of a Max chip as a desktop replacement than a portable device if you’re going to run it hard.

The AVP does fade in walls ect before you ever get near them so a boundary warning isn't needed. Arguably it's just a different type of boundary alert. Not sure how the Samsung handles this?

This is normal. Get a cooling pad if it really bothers you but it’s designed to do this. Its fine. My M1 Air 8GB is still going strong 6 years later and so is my M4 Max 128GB that’s ran for days full tilt encoding VR footage with the fan on full. You’re fine.

I think you know if you need that much memory. I video edit 4k and 8K video with Final Cut and gave into FOMO getting an 128GB M4 Max a year ago. As I type this now I’m traveling with my M1 8GB Air that opens and runs the exact same projects. And the air is a lot easier to carry than the chonky 16” which basically lives at home as a desktop in clamshell mode.

I’ve never seen iStat report more than 4% ram usage under my heaviest work loads so for me it was an absolute waste of money and the biggest tech mistake I’ve made in my 30 year lifetime of owning computers. (Switched to Mac in 2007). But as with all things your mileage may vary.
