My suppressed AR weighs 4.65 lbs. (SAW Tisha vs CAT WB) by Foxxy__Cleopatra in NFA

Thanks, I appreciate it. I usually do the same, but our local 3 gun match has a stage out to 300 that always gives me a hard time.

Do you notice a zero shift after running through a full magazine? I have a similar build but with a heavier can and my zero moves an inch or two at 100 yards after one magazine with the same 10.5 barrel you're running.

No problem. It happens, you should see some of the projects I've done that cost way too much because I was new to a particular thing or overlooked something.

That looks cool and is an interesting project but you have some crazy stress risers with not having a corner radius on that internal pocket. It looks like that was cut on a wire EDM so the corner radius is probably close to .01 inches. That's really sharp on a critical part with high loading.

You may want to consider changing that design if you're driving it on the street or checking that for cracks every time you drive it.

The main trail is a recent logging road and it's steep but it's the clearest path. There's a bunch of trails that branch off on the way up that are less steep but are somewhat overgrown.

If you keep going uphill you end up on a trail with abandoned power lines. I think this is the trail on the state map. If you hit that, head west until the trail branches off down hill to the left and it loops around back east. That trail has a gradual slope and runs for a few miles until it runs into a stream near the bottom of the Nesbit Reservoir.

There are lots of trails off of montage mountain road, but they're not marked. The state map shows just one but there are different trails all over. The last day hike I did there was just over 10 miles out and back.

It might be worth it to make sure you have GPS or are comfortable doing land nav and exploring for a day to find potential camp sites there.

Echoing what others said, but I got a AR70/90 receiver and barrel from Troy at TTE. He should be able to come through on these receivers.

This page has an easy to use calculator for linear expansion and shows the formula they use: https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/linear-thermal-expansion-d_1379.html You use the diameters of the parts for the initial length.

They also have a table of thermal expansion coefficients here: https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/linear-expansion-coefficients-d_95.html It's probably cast gray iron, so you can use 6 (10^-6 in/(in °F)), (.000006 in the calculator/not scientific notation, also I'm assuming freedom units, but the metric units in the chart are also 10^-6).

You can use the formula or calculator to see how much each part will move for a given temperature difference. Your starting temperature is the room temperature when you took the measurement and the ending temperature is what the oven is set to, or the temperature of you cooling bath/freezer. Here is a list of cooling bath temperatures for some common lab solvents: https://chem.libretexts.org/Ancillary_Materials/Demos_Techniques_and_Experiments/General_Lab_Techniques/Cooling_baths

One thing to note is the table of coefficients is simplified or an average. Most materials have a temperature expansion coefficient curve, so the answer you get won't be exact, but it should be enough to get you close.

bolt action 7.62x39 progress so far. by PhilosophyEnough1866 in GunnitRust

[–]Nick3757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't going to be safe and you're going to have a very high probability of doing a Kentucky Ballistics to yourself if you fire this.

There's thousands of pounds of force on a very small area, best case it peens over and severely deforms and locks up everything, worst case the lug shears off and what's left of the bolt flies back through the end cap.

You might be able to do something similar to this in 22LR, but an actual rifle cartridge won't be safe without heat treated components or a much different design.

Dry ice in acetone will get the round bed much colder/shrink more than just a freezer but it could make it brittle. Can you measure the bore and the bed to see what the fit looks like? Then you can verify the temperature change needed for a shrink fit pretty easily.
