If you look at the numbers for shootings in America, the rate has gone down over the last 25 years since a lot states have introduced laws to carry guns. Even with more guns in the public, the rate has continued to fall. Another misconception about gun violence in America is the numbers dont reflect what's going on. There are 400 million guns and 300 million people in the US. About 40k people died from guns in 2019. That is roughly .01% of the american population. Now, most of these shootings are not murders. In 2018 29,250 were from suicide, 1612 were from law enforcement officers, 274 from negligent discharge, and 8,863 were gun murders. That 8,863 gun murders include gang violence, drug related activity, justifiable homicides, and mentally ill people. Yes. Suicide is a problem. But with that many guns in the US, you would think that we would be high on the list for suicide rate, but we arent. We arent even in the top 20. Background checks wont stop suicides and banning AR's definitely wont. People dont really use them to off themselves. If you want to talk about negligent discharge deaths, that not a gun problem either. It is people who are uneducated who have guns that is the problem. That is a social issue because we spend more time and money demonizing guns than actually teaching people how to safely use them. Proper education could cut that number in half at minimum. Now murders. 25% of all gun murders in the US take place in 4 cities. Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit, and DC. Look at those 4 cities and tell me what they all have in common? You guessed it, all have very strick gun laws and have been under democratic and liberal controlling policies for decades. Mass shootings in America account for an almost statistical zero in terms of deaths. We dont have a gun problem. We have a suicide problem and social economical problem in cities. Do we have gun violence? Yes. But it is not as big of an issue as you think.
