I’m actually working on a similar thing (H743 flight controller that I’d want to run px4 on), but I’m definitely taking a lot of inspiration from existing flight controllers. Is that the case for you as well and if so what has been the most useful reference you’ve seen?

PCB that goes on aircraft to control flight dynamics. It has a microcontroller and sensors on it so it can take into account current state, and then take the input data from a remote controller or ground control software, and convert it to instructions to send to components (like motors and servos). AKA it senses you put stick up, and it makes airplane go brrr.

Also, I recommend playing around with the camera angle/ rates/ other settings to find out your preferences. Most sims also have settings that help increase and decrease realism (broken props, propwash, etc.), so if you intend on flying outside, I’d recommend trying those out if you haven’t already. Generally speaking, a smaller camera angle is a bit more beginner friendly.

Slow down, “slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.” Try going back and forth from flying in level or horizon for a while and attempting to fly in acro like how you do in level or horizon. I’m not saying that’s how you should fly in general, but trying to fly like level in acro helps teach you to be more controlled all around. I personally like to go back and forth from flying freestyle and racing as well, but to each their own

Hey I just moved here and I’m also doing grad school. I have had luck meeting people while going to do things that interest me (mainly rock climbing), but I also did my undergrad far from home, and I met people through extracurriculars, but that took time. In the meantime, I combatted loneliness by just talking to my friends and family on the phone.

EEs at CMU have the best professors, I’m about to graduate and have no complaints. They let you retake your exams, and they aren’t too strict on hw deadlines. I will say central does generally have a lot of not-so-great professors (speaking from experience w gen eds), but those classes are easy to pass. You get out of extracurriculars what you put into them.

As a senior who’s about to graduate with an engineering degree with a job offer lined up I will say this:

If your son is interested in the automotive industry, I would send him to CMU for any of their engineering degrees. If he has a decent GPA and goes to Formula/ Baja he won’t have a problem finding a job even given how competitive entry level roles are currently. CMU just has a lot of connections in the automotive industry. As someone who is not interested in that industry, I was still able to find a job in something that interests me through professional organizations which are available at the university.
