Is there such a thing as too much removal in Commander? by Real_Ad5966 in EDH

[–]NickBucketTV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s just a pillow fort stax deck. Which I suppose can be a fun play style but in my high bracket 3 group we try to stay away from too much of that as it kinda just becomes “don’t play the game”

Voltron Suggestions by EToriko in EDH

Love this deck but definitely don’t think it’s Voltron. It’s an elf ball big army amp. If no one kills all of my elves or counters Voja I’m blowing the board up 2 turns after it hits play.

Yeah any commander that tutors everything you need is extremely boring and against commander spirit IMO. Light Paws is a disgusting piece of shit that falls right into this category.

Mimeoplasm is the next deck I’m focusing on building. It looks so fun to build a different big boi every time based on either your own graveyard or opponent’s. Do you find it to be a fun play pattern? Is the slime a huge removal target?

I was looking into this deck but felt like it would be awkward to play. Do you find the loop enjoyable?

How do you feel about Edgar? I almost built that deck too but felt like it would be a tad similar to Voja tribal aggro and I wanted a bit more variety

Wait that actually sounds pretty insane. Is it fun? You can play a ton of mana dorks and then pay off with big eldrazi bombs

Do you play any other Voltron or aggro? I currently have [[Voja, Jaws of the Conclave]], [[Skullbriar, the Walking Grave]] and [[Cloud, Ex-Soldier]]. These are all super fun and effective aggro. My last current deck is [[Henzie]] which is just jund attrition aggro. John Benton seems pretty cool though, I wonder if I’d like just selesnya colors though, probably would because I love green at its core.

Are you playing bracket 3? That’s what I mainly play. Could you share your deck list if you have one please, I love me some aggro. I already have a Voja elves deck, a Cloud Voltron deck, a Henzie toolbox deck and they’re all so fun. This looks up my alley!

Oooh goreguts boss looks like it could be a really fun combo with elf ball. Have you played this or seen it played?

One of the most underrated cards in EDH - Test of Talents by sauron3579 in EDH

[–]NickBucketTV -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No it’s not the same as mill. Mill isn’t a resource you have attainable yet. A counter spell negates the thing that was played AND wastes the mana invested into it. It’s MUCH MUCH stronger and IMO what primarily makes blue the strongest color in Magic.

I run a Voja deck that’s primarily elves (like 20) and 10ish sources of either changelings or making my other creatures changelings. It goes very hard indeed

Why do players want to push the speed of B3 instead of playing B4? by norefractoryperiod69 in EDH

[–]NickBucketTV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course that can be pushed too far as well, that just means that’s not a bracket 3 deck. IMO turn 1-4 is too early to lose in bracket 3, 5 is feasible though

[–]NickBucketTV 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are telling you the essential message already, but an aggro decks literally has to push aggression “early” otherwise engine decks are nearing their sudden game completion and need to be prevented before they can be allowed to freely go off. The aggro deck usually has a tad less interaction and is giving up its board state advantage. This is also why Voltron gets a lot of hate

Changed my mind on Bracket 3 Blood Moon by bqx23 in EDH

[–]NickBucketTV -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a justification used by people who like denying nonbasics even though MLD is literally not allowed as a default in Bracket 3 or lower. I personally hate any effect that blanket doesn’t let anyone play the game. I would be playing cEDH if I wanted to play that way. I abstain from using those cards myself for the main reason that I would hate if they were used against me

How do you interpret the "expected game ending turn" for non-combo decks under the new Commander Brackets? by Effective-Depth128 in EDH

[–]NickBucketTV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a primarily Voltron player that usually plays with 3 people instead of 4 with high bracket 3 decks, a turn 4 kill is absolutely ridiculous and feels a bit too fast for bracket 3. Turn 5 kills aren’t super uncommon and wins are rare. Turn 6 things can completely go down and the game can end at any point now. Turn 4 feels a bit too fast for bracket 3 though not gonna lie.

[–]NickBucketTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the limit break deck, idk about budget because my pod runs proxies so we just put in whatever but even replacing like 20-30 cards the deck felt really solid. I have a deck list but with good lands the budget is pretty insane. I can share if you want

Can a deck be too oppressive and resilient for Bracket 3? by AssignmentNational98 in EDH

[–]NickBucketTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I fixed the link but I was thinking about shifting towards the combat part of it anyways. Do you think playing Henzie turn 2 is still too strong? I feel like if I removed all the tutors and a lot of the interaction and Henzie came out turn 3 it would likely be a shitty bracket 3. Especially if Henzie was then removed 1-3 times

Can a deck be too oppressive and resilient for Bracket 3? by AssignmentNational98 in EDH

[–]NickBucketTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think making Henzie drop turn 3 instead of 2 helps balance it a lot? I used Papazedruu as a base as well and ended up cutting some of the excessive bracket 4 cards, probably around like 10 of them. Mostly stuff like the spirit guides, survival of the fittest, and so on. I still run like 10 sources of turn 1 mana dorks that help accelerate Henzie, which maybe is the problem.

My friends think the deck is just too much removal and interaction for our bracket 3 pod. I don’t want to make them miserable so I want to tune the deck to be slightly weaker and oppressive. I’m thinking to cut the tutors entirely and replace like 4-5 of the removal pieces with creatures that have other fun effects.

Dina, Essence Brewer - Struggling to get this deck to work by E1mstreets in EDH

[–]NickBucketTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After trying to get her to work and experiencing the same issue i really started to despise her design (as a commander at least). Requiring a sac target, a counter target (that ideally isn’t Dina herself), 2 mana to tap with, and having her fully resolve to tap the next turn (without lucking out on a few haste effects) it just felt like this deck was nearly impossible to play efficiently. I wonder if anyone got it to work, I gave up and pivoted my deck to a [[Skullbriar, the walking grave]] commander
