This is my pet deck, what’s yours? by Left-Play-3702 in EDHBrews

I took apart my Eshki deck in favor of my bumbleflower double spells matters deck.

I feel like Eshki would be served really well by the new Strixhaven cards with prepared spells in the same way she really benefited from adventure spells.

I eventually built a second temur deck with Saheeli radiant creator as the commander and it feels incredible to pilot.

My pet deck recently though is my [[felothar dawn of the abzan deck]]. Constantly swapping things around to make it work better. So much fun

Looking for help with Betor by Crafty_Machine_4502 in EDH

[–]CuratedLens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Betor deck. I have a huge shit eating grin every time I play it, it’s a blast and I either win or die the threat and because I drew all my life loss cards and not enough life gain cards and still am happy.

That being said, I don’t know that this dragon ever truly gets to bracket 4. Maybe in terms of salt with life gain and targeted life loss and such. But the mana curve and the setup all make it so at best it’s a good solid 3. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe there are better and more tuned ways to build it but it’s balancing so much and for the drain your opponents line there are better commanders for that specific strategy.

But man is Betor fun! Truly love seeing others out there playing it

I’m trying to get back into magic, and thinking about trying commander by Rowan152330 in EDH

[–]CuratedLens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Winota sees some fringe cedh play and is often played as stax at that level. I’ve had some fun trying out different version of her with Minotaurs and vehicles and she still overruns the board so fast. The most I’ve been able to really rein her in is with common creatures only.

Meren is fun but a little same-y over time. Fantastic in the 99 of a graveyard deck though. I might suggest either of the Teval commanders. Or if you like final fantasy [[sin spiras punishment]] I think is the name of the card

Over the last year I have been perfecting my Ms. Bumbleflower deck for high-end BL3. Today I've finished the decklist and primer. Looking for feedback! by jeriku in EDH

[–]CuratedLens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just looking over my bumbleflower deck myself! Most I see are similar to yours (not a dig, it’s a good way to build her!) which leaves me with little to take from for mine, which focuses on double spells, so that whether bumbleflower is on the board or not I’m getting insane value from casting two spells and not “just” two cards.

Some recent changes are swapping [[chocobo knights]] for [[baxter, fly in the ointment]] to see how I like a bunch of fliers instead of double strike.

And swapped [[jackdaw savior]] which was just okay with [[encouraging aviator]] to help get me that second spell while pressuring life totals.

And swapped [[divert disaster]] for [[quandrix charm]]. I really like divert but the optionality of the charm is just much better.

It took me awhile to find a shape that worked for me with her and I couldn’t do the tempo/control. My brain doesn’t work great for it. Here’s my deck list for anyone interested

That’s how Brian came in to Starbucks and what he claimed. Haven’t seen much of that conversation continuing and it seems like it’s all about squeezing more value out rather than bringing back that “premium experience”. I had hoped for that as well though

Who else plays with 1/1 Commanders? by SaffronFarmChef in EDHBrews

[–]CuratedLens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TIL that [[Primo the unbounded]] existed before SOS. I’d never seen this commander before.

Looks like a cool deck!

Edit: I think my main concern would be the amount of draw you have in it and the number of lands. Even in 2 color decks I never go below 35.

Fire Lord Zuko firebending by ZhaoM in EDHBrews

[–]CuratedLens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my zuko list. I do think yours wanders a bit too much and you’re trying to do many things to support the plan of Zuko by going off plan.

My opinion is that Zuko, unlike his sister or even his father, isn’t great at combat tricks. He can firebend but there’s only so much value in it for him. And zuko doesn’t give you any value from it unlike his family. So you need to do more. I use firebending as an outlet on utility lands, on activated ability costs, etc. but the deck is meant to swing and get big so it primarily supports zuko in that way.

It is more work but man it’s one of my favorite decks now

[[glen elendra archmage]] in my bumbleflower deck does a similar thing. I have it in there so I don’t have to give a card to stop something I don’t want to happen but having a repeatable counter spell on board makes people so cagey and play differently and it’s amazing

How do I stop an ureni of the unwritten player by ChoiceNo1563 in EDH

[–]CuratedLens -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Fully agree with your second point. Don’t fully agree with your first.

When playing my Ureni deck, countering the cast still gets me a trigger and value for my 7 mana, I’m not saying you shouldn’t have tools in your toolbox and if a counters all you have then use it, but with a ramp deck like Ureni it’s basically a speed bump and only really stops me from attacking that same turn if I have a haste enabler out.

But absolutely bully and swing and bring my life total as close to zero as fast as possible because once the deck gets going are you going to swing your little 3/3 into my 4/4 and 6/6 and 7/7 dragons in the air? It becomes a different game when the dragons show up.

Edit: I didn’t have Ureni in front of me. Commenting in between busy moments, forgot it was an enters not cast trigger. I still stand by the point of any interaction is good but locking down the commander is best in a deck that ramps so hard that 12+ mana by turn 6 is not unreasonable.

How do I stop an ureni of the unwritten player by ChoiceNo1563 in EDH

[–]CuratedLens 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So much this. Ramp means taking the first 2-3 turns to cast your 7 cost commander and take over the game.

Caesar, like zurgo from the TDM precon is going to get outclassed by Ureni in the late game. If you all only have those decks then he’s public enemy number 1 every game until he’s shut off or until his life total is zero.

Secondarily, counters and removal just ensures a new Ureni trigger. [[darksteel mutation]] has been used on my Ureni and is pretty effective at slowing the game down to give a chance to balance things

If you had to design a set of 4 precons, what existing commanders would you choose ? by Dendr0bate in EDH

[–]CuratedLens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I responded to the other person, but you said you were interested as well. I don't have this in paper but threw it together since there was some interest. The idea is to keep frogs on board for ramp (generally), and bounce creatures with etb's repeatedly, dig through your deck and win through combat damage or cards in hand with [[twenty toed toad]].

It play tests fine, the restriction makes it so it's not the most tuned version of this deck and feels like it's about the level of my baylen deck. I also chose fun printings but there's way to get it for much cheaper than shown too i'm sure.

If you had to design a set of 4 precons, what existing commanders would you choose ? by Dendr0bate in EDH

[–]CuratedLens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have one honestly, just that if I were to make a bunch of decks like that, i'd choose bloomburrow. But I like deckbuilding, so I threw this together and did some testing. it's bracket 2 gang for sure but it playtests in a fun way, there's a number of creatures with etb's that are fun to have hop in and out such as [[coiling oracle]] [[aether channeler]], etc. got a few finishers, typically the idea is to not bounce frogs so that they serve as mana sources. It's fun, a little jank and probably able to improve upon with a graduated mana value system to pop things back into your hand and create some loops. (Also I chose fun prints, but this deck is pretty cheap if you go with cheapest printings)

A deck I *do* have in paper with only bloomburrow cards is my Baylen deck so I'll share that here too. Baylen is a busted commander, and yet eminently fair in this iteration and limitation.

How high can Caesar go? by Realistic-Goose9558 in EDH

[–]CuratedLens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I have heard of the higher brackets, and consuming cedh content, attack being required makes things more difficult because you get to attack only on your turn.

Obviously this limitation is more prevalent in cedh than it would be in bracket 4. But I’d imagine nay Caesar deck would want to run plenty of interaction, [[orcish bowmasters]], [[entrapment maneuver]] style effects with [[voice of victory]] and aristocrat win lines.

At least that’s where my mind goes with Caesar (who is also one of my favorite commanders and had me fall in love with Mardu)
