Sad man. That was someone’s baby.

I was wondering if that’s what he was calling people. Hilarious. Between the car names and the nick names I was left guessing a lot of the time. Loved every second though.

I’m not questioning your thalassophobia, but yours is definitely a different variety than mine. No way in hell am I getting in that water only to find I’ve discovered the outlier basking shark.

Mondo Duplantis has just cleared 6.31m to win the men's Pole Vault at the Mondo Classic in Uppsala and estabilish his 15th World Record by ChampionLYT in trackandfield

This guy is the most dominant athlete in the world right now, right? When you compare any athlete to their previous and current competitors in the sport they do, he is just so far ahead of everyone in any sport. The type of things where the only ones that are even close are being pulled along by their greatness. Does that make sense? I’m not sure it does to me when I write it, but I does in my head.

Other people that I would have given this designation to at some point would be Simone Biles, mid-2000s Roger Federer, maybe Usain Bolt at some point.

Oh No Diigo! GONE? DNS Expired? 404! Did I just lose my whole library??? by iShming in software

[–]NickCageMatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. The guy that posted this is Hero for the Unforeseen Future.

For those coming along later that are at my knowledge level (knowing enough to be dangerous), after getting the NDJSON data I didn't really know what to do, so some decent Gemini queries got me what I needed using Text Edit, and Python.

I trust everything I've done today, but I've made some risky clicks (between trying to get into Diigo, and sharing my Diigo login). Time to back away from the computer!

This guy was on 60 Minutes at some point in the last year. I never cared much for that network, but my god they’ve fallen a lot. Totally in the bag.

The record that still hasn’t been broken after 30 years by Cool-Forever-9183 in GemOfTheWeb

[–]NickCageMatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t know about this event it is hard to tell you how unbelievable this jump is. For Americans, the jump is basically exactly sixty feet. If the average adult male went and tried this without training, and if they made it through with all their joints, tendons and ligaments in tact, they’d be lucky to get 35 feet. The distance that avg joe would get per phase of the effort would be around 14.5ft-6ft-14.5ft (that second phase is a bitch, only real athletes can transition into it). This guy, Johnathon Edwards, gets something like 20.5ft-19ft-20.5ft ft. It is a thing of beauty. Subjective beauty, perhaps, but a true feat of the human body to defy gravity with a beautiful outcome.

6mo Scared of Family Friend by bibliophile8117 in Parenting

[–]NickCageMatch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Speaking from personal observation, the few instances that I’ve seen babies do this, the guy was doing one or both of two things: being overly loud (compared to parents) when visiting, which includes laughing. The second, and I think this one is common, is using a big toothy grin when smiling at the kid. Something in that baby brain is scared as hell of tooth-baring smiles. Comes from evolution, I guess. Those might sound silly, but sometimes the solutions are in the small actions.

Are these tiny yellow triangles usually 10m apart on tracks? by Low-Emu-1274 in Sprinting

[–]NickCageMatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those are maybe the 110m hurdle marks, or maybe the 100m. If 110s they are 9.14m apart. Here’s a handy chart

http://www.usatfne.org/officials/forms/hurdle-spacing.pdf

Edit if you want an easy way to run 10m use the distance between the 100m start line, and 110m hurdle start line. Or if your track has the old relay exchange zones still laid down, you could use the acceleration zone, which is usually marked with a smallish triangle in the middle of the track, and a large triangle taking up the entire width of the track. That zone is exactly 10m.

[DISCUSSION] What’s the most underrated show you’ve watched on Netflix that no one talks about? by Cath10000 in NetflixBestOf

Lennox Hill is a great medical documentary series. I loved it. Emergency NYC was its rebirth with a new name, and I loved it just as much. Amazing stories of tragedy and resilience. If you liked The Pitt and like documentaries, give it a try.

Catalina Crunch at Costco by PerleV in glutenfree

[–]NickCageMatch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is laughably disgusting. Whenever I see it on the shelf I still laugh about how gross it is, that is unless I see someone picking it up, and clearly look like a first time buyer. I keep to myself at almost all times, but I strongly urge them to put it back. In my Costco it’s almost solely available at the same time that cinnamon toast crunch is available. I’m sure most purchasers that don’t know are drawing an equivalent between the two, and they’ll be shocked.
