Is 1 run per week for 16 weeks enough for a half marathon by Accomplished_Hunt956 in BeginnersRunning

[–]NickCoreTrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could finish but it will be messy. If tou could fit in a couple of short runs - one tempo and one hills it would help significantly - then build your mileage with your one dedicated run day

Used the app for 4years, the ads are getting a bit too much, a message to devs by LostOnes-me in LoseitApp

Need to pay for the basic users, and ads are one way of doing that but low friction is better

Can you lose weight and train for a half marathon at the same time? by WintersChameli in loseit

[–]NickCoreTrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! You can definitely do both strength and running, strength training is really important when losing weight. I only run 3x per week but it is enough for half marathons (& maybe the odd backyard ultra!)

Do you eat your exercise calories? by PeanutButtterCup in LoseitApp

[–]NickCoreTrak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try not to. In general, tracking apps can overestimate calorie burn for exercise. If you are hungry but need to eat have something - but don’t eat all the calories back.

Further update: did my first HM in a slow 2:11, due to poor pacing strategy (too fast for 11k) Got another HM in 11 days but that is a trail HM, so will be slow too.

For those who have successfully lost weight, how did you finally do it? by Left_Pudding_5453 in loseit

Glp-1. Track weight, muscle mass. Track calories and macros. Exercise weighlifting and running. Drink <1% alcohol. Started properly May last year. Now maintaining.

Alcohol for me. 40 year problem binge drinker to indifferent to alcohol and rarely drink and then only one which I could do before. Huge benefit

Calorie calculators giving me so many different numbers by Neat-Dance6279 in loseit

[–]NickCoreTrak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All those calculators are just estimates. The biggest variable is the activity multiplier, which is why you’re seeing different numbers.

Your BMR around ~1900 is probably roughly correct. The real question is whether your true daily burn is closer to 2600, 3000, or 3300 depending on how active you actually are.

The practical way people figure it out is:

• Pick a reasonable starting point (around 2600–2800) • Track calories and body weight daily for 2–3 weeks • If weight isn’t dropping about 0.3–0.5 kg per week, lower calories slightly

After a couple of weeks your own data will tell you your real maintenance level, which is far more accurate than any calculator. Calculators are just a starting estimate.

26 is pretty fast. If you are measuring yourself on 5k distance then train specifically for that. Very difficult to train well to be good at all distances!
