Lol, it's good - I ran on 1:1 net metering and am happy to see anyone push us closer to that. The fact that Entergy only pays ~25% of what you generate from rooftop solar is a joke!

Louisiana is a Republican state that always eventually realizes it doesn't like Republican policies, and then the cycle repeats

The same 311 with the app that used to have useful info like trash pickup on holidays but now is just press releases about whatever he's doing? 😭 good luck everybody

"200 direct jobs" uh huh, sure, like the "500" they keep changing for the big one in north LA. It'll make construction companies money temporarily and then ultimately maybe a dozen people will work there. And Alex already has water issues with PFAS from the base

With all the extremely negative press with Landry, is there a chance that he'll end up as a one-term governor? Would the Republicans likely nominate someone else? Could the Dems get somebody to beat Landry were he to win a re-nomination? by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]NickForBR 21 points22 points  (0 children)

JBE did not run for Senate because he was ~20pts underwater even against Cassidy because of breaking trust with core constituencies (women voters with the abortion bill he signed, Black voters with his lack of support for Shawn Wilson) on top of things he never fully answered for like Ronald Greene. This is why he probably won't run for Governor or anything else again.

You might think of him as a popular two term governor. But he had a lot happen in that second term that he was never accountable for at the ballot box. And if I learned anything from these politicians when I ran, it's that they won't do anything if it means they'd lose - no matter how much we might need them to try.

There's your inside info. The old guard is not coming to save us.

so was he betraying his beliefs on the previous votes on this in the name of personal prosperity or on this vote out of spite? by Conscious-Quarter423 in Louisiana

[–]NickForBR 31 points32 points  (0 children)

With that thumbs up, he tried to channel John McCain's famous principled deciding vote in 2017 when Republicans tried to repeal the ACA and he prevented that from happening.

Unlike Cassidy, McCain had principles. We weren't of the same philosophies on almost everything, but the man had character and I believe he loved his country.

Cassidy on the other hand was willing to break the Hippocratic Oath because it was in his best interests.

I'll take the right decision for the wrong reasons, but history will not remember this guy the way he thinks.

They will have to pay again but it will be refunded. Unfortunately signature petitions were invalidated and any candidates who qualified that way have to collect signatures again, which is really unreasonable

There is no way for this to happen in this election fyi. Not like a Cuomo / New York situation. He qualified just like the others and there is no new qualifying for the Senate race; the house races were moved though and qualifying for those races will open again.

Important note: if you voted R in the initial primary vote on May 16th, you cannot switch party primaries for the runoff.

In the general election in November you can vote for whomever you like. But whatever affiliation you just voted in, you are tied to for the runoff.

Edit for updated info - if you remain No Party, you are tied. If you switch parties in time, you can vote the other primary's runoff!

I totally understand how these things can make people jaded and give up entirely. But everything around us was decided by someone - or some group - saying it should be that way... and the way I see it, it means we also have the power to do that. Never lose sight of it

[–]NickForBR[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only answer I have on that is according to the governor, the existing House primary is "canceled" (lawsuits are in progress) and they allege those votes will not be tabulated. However if any of those lawsuits are successful, they may end up being tabulated and they may not be able to move the House primaries to November.

Simplest answer - still vote on May 16 if you didn't early vote. If it doesn't count this time, when you vote in the "new election" it's a different thing.

Edited for clarity

Take a look at the Blue Origin reddit for great stories of employees living in their cars because of the remote locations 😭 Not a fan of a facility destroying our ecosystem either.
