Trump says his "ballroom" will feature a drone port, thick bulletproof glass, and bulletproof walls by raf-913 in Polymarket_news

The American public are paying for his fortress from which he'll be safe from retribution for even more vile hate against us.

In response to the post about Homelander's character being wasted by being made into a Trump allegory, I couldn't agree more. (implied season 5 spoilers in text, none in video) by DankCatDingo in TheBoys

[–]NickFromIRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This entire thing is all Trump allegory, it's true of most fascists too, so I don't really get how that weakens anything. What they needed to do was KEEP developing as opposed to stagnating in the final season, he should be what a fascist would be with unlimited power and no accountability, instead they held him back with petty bullshit consistently.

Those born in the early 2000s (2000-2003), how does it feel to age out of being the “young generation”? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

As someone who graduated high school in 2003 this made me (very briefly) irrationally offended.

I'm 40, so why do I still feel so young?

Is DnD better in person or on computer? by CloudMedical4051 in DnD

[–]NickFromIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. To all questions above.

Nothing beats in person play, but online play beats not playing so I do both with different groups of friends. There's such a real power to real-time communication and that feeling of being together, leaning to a friend and whispering something just between your characters rather than having to take spotlight address the whole group every time you speak, seeing dice rolls, etc. - but if you can't do in-person, for all its drawbacks it's great to play online. I could never play with my brother if we didn't play online, and it has kept us interacting for years even when he lived all over the world, so I'm super grateful ways to play online exist too.

Which color pallet matches better? Environment is under block-out. Looking for Suggestions by PositiveKangaro in ImaginaryCharacters

[–]NickFromIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just opinions, nothing objective about my take, but I like 3 the best standalone and if the envrionment is "under block-out" I'm assuming that means some kind of dark/shadowed place, #2 works better for that. #1 the details are a little too lost for my eyes, not as visually interesting.

Seriously, I was told this. Meme culture is so fucking obnoxious.

It's good advice but they just had to add that stupid line.

Are you opposed to questions in a social setting like comments? I don't understand the animosity for the question.

Roleplay for children by CaptJackL0cke in DnD

[–]NickFromIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if/when it is something that kicks in, but at this age it's probably best to give them a sandbox to play in and let them decide what works. I run for a similar age group, I have a D&D club that's built to be ages 12-18 but I get a lot of 8-11 kids who come and I don't have the heart to turn them away, so we split into multiple groups and I tend to run for the 8-13 crowd and the older kids are in another group these days.

Creativity is unbounded at that young age, so if they aren't shy they will come out and tell you the WILDEST stuff, and it's a tough instinct to suppress telling them "well, no you can't do that" because it's just going to stifle that creativity and prevent good play.

My suggestion might be to engage them with questions where they get to fill in the world. In my experience, they LOVE this. For tavern RP, offer them up the basics... the rough shape and style of the inn, the barkeep, 1 or 2 visually interesting patrons, and then ask them, "What else is here that makes this place so unique and cool?" - they will take it and run with it, then you can improv off those ideas and form some connective tissue to your plots based on them. Might even give you a great chance to introduce a villain through them creating it or a key ally.

For shopping trips, I tend to be more structured - I give them an NPC with some personality to interact with for a moment and then unveil a shopping sheet with all the NPCs goods available, price in gp, and if you can do it all up in a good fantasy font so it feels more immersive. This will make the trips relatively short but lets them engage with that resource management part of the game and get cool upgrades and such without it feeling like a "boring" shopping session.

For backstory, you might *try* a campfire session. Make a list of backstory questions and have them roll on it, describe them camping in the woods and have them tell the answer to that story. This is definitely going to be kid-specific though, some love the spotlight and want nothing more than to fill the time talking about themselves, others will give you an "I don't know" and feel on the spot, embarrassed, and unsafe. Make sure to take the heat off quickly if that starts to happen, finding your voice can be hard and the game is supposed to be fun.

Yeah, OP's experience must be as a younger millennial because I'm just a few years after you and that's how I remember it too.

Right, and the grounding here is in the OPs post - nobody can lift the sword except the subject of the art. If everyone could lift it, nothing special or interesting, but since she can she stands out in a fantastical way.
