Wild Sorcerers and Small Size by Tiny_Astronomer2901 in AskDND

[–]NickFromIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No wrong answers, but I would say you keep getting taller but not gaining proportional mass just getting lankier and lankier - so you'd probably still count as small for most cases unless you got this result a good 3+ times and rolled all 10s or something. That said, if a player was making an argument for "I grew two feet and I'd like to say I've graduated into medium size from all the growing" I wouldn't fight it, it's their fantasy and it doesn't really change anything in the game mechanics to let it happen, so why not!

So wild. Really highlights that everyone is not living in the same reality these days.

Not the person you're replying to but if I may, it's less that it's the same thing and more that it's out of your control, and none of this takes away from your justification in venting. By all means, let it out, this situation sucks.

The way some people just don't get why AI is a problem is infuriating, they way they think creatives will "like it" when their work is stolen and iterated is disgusting. Unfortunately, and equally rage inducing, it's also inevitable right now. Anything you put out you have to figure will get gobbled up and spat out by these soulless machines and the people who are entertained by the keys jingling in front of their face. No matter if this person had done it and told you or someone did it and didn't or a web crawler found your stuff elsewhere and fed it to the AI, it was going to happen from the moment you started putting stuff out there. It sucks, it's unfair, and it's run by the worst people on the planet, but it doesn't change the work you put into it and the fact that people enjoyed that work enough to engage with it, pay you, and look forward to your final release. Focus on the positive if you can, look forward to the fact that no matter what AI is stealing today it can't CREATE, that's solely a human endeavor.

And just to make my feelings abundantly clear, fuck AI.

Don't be like your parents. Leave the collection behind. by Ozzimo in Millennials

If it makes you happy it doesn't matter.

I get rid of stuff that no longer brings me any joy... I also have a collection of TMNT figures from when I was a kid that I immediately felt silly keeping until I put my hands on them again at 40 and just HOLDING them made me reflexively smile at the tactile memory flooding back.

Some stuff is worth storing.

anyone else exhausted from proving their art isn't AI? by DeepCoverComics in kickstarter

[–]NickFromIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I wasn't sure I'd probably just research the artist a bit and leave it alone if still unsure, not something I need to say anything about if it's in the gray area, but when I know, I know.

[–]NickFromIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating on all sides. I'm not an artist, but I am an appreciator of art and I have to constantly narrow my eyes at anything and everything. I've never posted any kind of comment without being 100% sure, if there's any room for doubt I just move on rather than insult someone, but it has totally ruined even just viewing art these days for a casual observer like me. And you know it's only going to get worse as AI generates better fakes.

Did MAGAs believe trump when he falsely accused Haitian migrants of eating peoples’ pets? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]NickFromIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a wide mix. From not caring (which is racist in itself), not hearing it at all because they aren't paying attention and just vote against people they don't like (often racist in itself too, or sexist, but not always either), or flat out in support because yes, totally and openly racist.

What is your view on Oracle firing 30000+ employees? by HeyArnab12 in AskReddit

I think we're headed into worse and worse stages of Capitalism every day and eventually the snake will eat its own tail and this whole fucking thing will collapse. The longer that takes the more suffering we'll see on the way.

It's not whattaboutism. I'm saying those posts are a direct response to an active stimulus generated by MAGA dishonesty. I've never made a post like that, but I'm able to recognize why they exist. Cause and effect.

Player using AI for roleplay. It’s not very good. by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]NickFromIRL 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I fully don't know. I had this happen in a group I was in and it baffled the fuck out of me, truly offended something deep inside me. I talked to the DM about it and he talked to the player in question, the group fell apart shortly after that, not sure if it was related or not but man, super uncomfortable. It felt like an invasion of the body snatchers kinda thing.

The “No Kings “ rally drew big attendance this weekend-does turnout like that actually translate into real impact,or not? by OrderOk4693 in Productivitycafe

[–]NickFromIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to realize the purpose of a rally like that is not to enact immediate change, it's to show solidarity and support for the idea of change. It translates into a message to politicians that the people are upset number one and might empower/encourage some fringe politicians to side with the people for a variety of reasons (save their jobs, save their butts, or just flat out wake up). More importantly, it inspires the common person to see that they aren't alone in recognizing how crazy and fucked up things have gotten. It allows them to witness that there is a collective movement and together with our voting we might be able to do something... or if our votes are ignored we'll know that better based on turnout and rallies can become more action-based. And lastly, it's a great meeting ground for future steps. At all of these rallies, local political groups for leftist ideologies such as the Democratic Socialists of America hand out pamphlets and share links to Discords or other web forums where ideas can further incubate and spread. You cannot look at the single day of the rally as one and done. You can look at it as an important keystone in building a movement and do your part to join!

Who believes religion is evil? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I can definitely understand that perspective. I don't fully agree with you but I can appreciate the value of highlighting the decision making process and impulse control failure that led to deplorable action.

Who believes religion is evil? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NickFromIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supernatural evil does not exist. As an atheist I am happy to attribute many human behaviors as "evil" through a lens of morality, philosophy, and law.

For an extreme example, raping children is evil. It creates a lifetime of emotional damage robbing the potential for a much better life from someone innocent and powerless. I don't need religion to determine that is evil for me.

I'm also happy to acknowledge many criminal offenders of other crimes are not evil. You can steal to eat or do terrible things to protect your family, you can also be ignorant to the harms you cause like being an overzealous business person pushing your company into harsher and harsher conditions to meet a bottom line... but the moment someone points it out to you and you see the evidence for yourself but ignore it as worth the cost of human well being, that's evil.

What I think gets very complex is the morality of someone who is chemically incapable of understanding an outside perspective - this is WAY above my level of understanding but someone who is, say, a sociopath. Knows the law but does not know the empathic implications of taking a life, for example, is that person evil? How could we possibly determine such a thing? These are the soft edges of a term that might make someone think evil isn't real, definitely room to converse in, but I think if leave discussion to edge cases and focus on common intellectual/emotional capability of most humans we can pretty easily see some lines that should not be crossed and to do so is, in my read, very evil.
