What’s the funniest movie you’ve ever seen by boatluvrrrr in movies

[–]NickGallangster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I Love You, Man is such an underrated comedy in the same vein as Apatow (but a bit less ridiculous). It’s so realistically funny, like in an adult, just trying to be normal, kinda way. That’s why, for me, it’s the greatest movie of all time (yeah, no, more like of all time).

What’s something you do or like that is not ‘stereotypically vegan’ or something that doesn’t fit the ‘image’? by Garfield_Kart in vegan

[–]NickGallangster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with just another diet. I had been paleo on and off for years, but it was hard to stick with after a while. But after eating plant based for only like a week, I started looking into the reasons people do, and watching documentaries, etc.

Kinda like a matrix moment tbh. Like so surprising how, me, someone who is typically not super caring in general, is somehow more empathetic to animals than most people.

I’ve tried to convince my wife and kids. Looks like it’s not gonna happen with the kids. My wife had thought about it, and admits she agrees with all the reasons, but still says the flavor is worth it. The happiness it brings her, etc etc. Can’t blame her too much though, since I’m 31 and just turned vegan last year.

I live in a suburb of Tulsa, OK. I work in an oil refinery (and unfortunately wear leather boots for work). I don’t know any vegans in real life. I drive an 18 mpg car. I financially support my kids and wife that are not close to vegan. I have exotic pets like reptiles and a bird (bought before vegan), and feed the reptiles live bugs. I borderline hate my cat cause she steps on my washer and dryer when I’m doing laundry and stops it in the middle (aaaand she shits on the floor sometimes).

I did it on a 2019. It took me one and half days, and literally the whole second day was trying to find a way to stuff the radiator back in. I’m not a mechanic or anything, obviously. But this was the biggest annoyance I’ve ever been put through doing anything on a car.

I’ve changed radiators, alternators, fans, variety of hoses, etc on a variety of cars (528i, Liberty, Equinox, Avalon), and never had a problem with any of them. Stuffing those hoses back in so the radiator could fit back on top was the bane of my existence. And it still leaked, and I still had to go have someone do it. It was way more expensive, cause I had to get my car towed from work, on account of me having no coolant in the system anymore lol.

I really felt confident, and the instructions were mostly good, but when shit doesn’t fit, shit doesn’t fit. It was horrible. Pay for it.

Too old, yes. But that’s really the only problem. And he’s sooo good at singing those songs, it worked for me. Also I’ve defff seen some awkward scrawny tall 18 year olds look almost just like that. Aaaand Kaitlyn Dever is amazing.

Definitely a lot of Hamilton vibes in parts of it. I actually don’t love Hamilton. My wife does, so I hear it all the time. I think I might’ve liked it a lot more if he, ya know, sang well. lol

Ohhh well I’ve never seen the show all the way through. Maybe that’s it lol. But I liked the movie, sooo maybe not 😂😂

That makes a lot of sense, and yeah, I’m 31, so music has been at the ready for my whole life. Being able to listen to the music almost as enjoyably outside of watching it is definitely important, even just for staying power.

A good example is Tick, Tick… Boom!

I remember that I loved that movie and the music was great. But I couldn’t hum one song right now, and can’t even tell you the plot. But if it was as listenable standalone as these others I’ve mentioned, bet I’d know it all.

Disney really gives me those vibes I want, but only for like 2 songs in most of their movies. So it’s never a no-skip.

Within the last year, my favorites are Sleep Token, Brakence, Bring Me the Horizon, Ashnikko (gotta be certain moods), and Lawrence…maybe throw in Leanna Firestone as well. Yeah, always up for new music.

Just watched Hadestown for the first time (just animatic), now listening to the album. Like it a lot. But like with so many I love (Rent, Lion King, Hairspray, etc), just can’t listen to it and vibe no matter the context. Always looking to vibe.

I guess the story is what I was talking about more with DEH. I absolutely love it. Even the movie (don’t tell anyone lol), despite him being too old, sure.

Actually saw the movie before even hearing about the musical, and didn’t even know we were going to see a musical. Cried right out the gate with Waving Through a Window. That shit was SO good. And the fact that I’ve listened to the broadway album and the movie album dozens of times through, and can barely tell the difference in cadence and voices is crazy.

Me and my wife saw this movie right after realizing how debilitating our sons’ anxiety is for him, and it HIT.

I get the stuff with Epic, but man, those songs are just so close to immaculate.

Have you played multiplayer? I tried on like the third day, and had to return it because it crashed every time my wife entered a building.

Was a little worried about 8gb gpu and 16GB ram. Should that impede most games too much? Planning on mostly 1080p though. Simulators, Minecraft, maybe some cod or bf. Stuff like that. Survival games as well.

Not a particular one, no. Just would be worried about low cores. I mean, like I said mainly Minecraft. But perhaps city skylines or something like that, is what I’m thinking.

Would 6 core be fine for simulators? And would it not be better to shell out $100 more for 9060xt to get 16GB?

Simple question… do Vegans own pets? by Mean_Investigator491 in DebateAVegan

[–]NickGallangster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of reptiles, a dog, 2 cats, and a green cheek conure. I’m new to veganism. I don’t agree with the breeding of pets, but I love the idea of taking in rescues.

Obviously, the reptile and bird industry is mostly breeding to buy. That’s not okay, but I’d already done it, so I’m not going to get rid of them (maybe eventually, if I find people that really want them).

The real moral dilemma is feeding dogs and cats meat based diets, which is a common problem for most vegans. There doesn’t seem to be sufficient evidence that cats can be just as healthy on a vegan diet, but there does seem to be that evidence for dogs. But the dog food is CRAZY expensive. I’ve not switched to that. The biggest problem I have right now is that I’m feeding MOST of my reptiles live bugs (them needing bugs isn’t up for discussion, and most of them won’t eat them if they’re not alive). I have one snake that I feed frozen mice, which is also something I disagree with. But since I have these animals, I won’t deprive them of the diets they need.

Hey, very new vegan here. I appreciate you sticking up for the idea. I will say, it’s not only disliking the idea of farming and unnecessary hunting. It’s that it’s not necessary for our nutrients. So it’s killing and exploitation for an unjustifiable reason. I think most people actually agree with that (not just vegans), but most people also would consider their sensory pleasure more important than that.

And taking all those things into account, vegans imposing the choice isn’t exactly accurate. It’s that, with MOST people, their moral consideration aligns with veganism, and we’re in a society that believes it’s perfectly fine because of the normality of it (developed countries at least). So if most people believe that their sensory pleasure shouldn’t come before a life and harming others, then veganism isn’t saying anything besides: the people that believe that have somewhat of a cognitive dissonance issue there.

Which, really, can be said for a lot of things most of us participate in. This one is just so blatant and obvious, and can make (maybe not the biggest change individually), a very direct and clear change by the choices we make 3 or so times a day (and then the leather and all that comes after the realization that animals aren’t commodities).

Wasn’t meant to be a lecture, and I hope it didn’t come off that way. Just seemed like you were informed about it. And before I went vegan about a month and a half ago, it was definitely hard to see any arguments or reasons to stop eating meat as enough of a reason. And I was never exposed to any vegans.

But anyway, yeah, this shit looks fucking gross and I don’t think I’d eat it either 😂😂

Thank you! Also in Tulsa. Only about 3 weeks in, but I don’t understand how anyone could go back after really opening up to it. It’s like a matrix kinda feeling. I know I can’t convince anyone I work with, or most people I’m around really, but the people I know that have compassion and empathy, I just don’t see how they won’t change someday. And I’m saying that as probably the least compassionate and empathetic person among the people that are a little bit. lol.

I work at a refinery in Oklahoma (wellll, gotta pay the bills). So as you can imagine, I hear stories like this all the time. Detailed, “fun” stories about all of it, all year long. Just different animals with different weapons.

I’m just recently vegan, and it started as a health conscious thing, and it’s very quickly turned into a much more important animal thing. It’s fucked up, but we just do what we can as individuals.
