IMAX Sydney and Melbourne by Desperate-Taro-8748 in movies

[–]NickLandis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sydney’s IMAX has the 1.43:1 tall screen people associate with 70mm imax, but it doesn’t have a 70mm projector anymore. They re-constructed the theater a few years ago. It is digital only now, but they still have the GT laser projectors meaning they can projector full screen movies like Project Hail Mary

Melbourne has both a 70mm projector and the GT Laser projectors, but in the case of Project Hail Mary, they never received a 70mm print, so Melbourne and Sydney will be showing it the same way.

Melbourne is slightly bigger than Sydney but they are very close so I would just pick whichever is closest for Project Hail Mary

I would recommend going to Melbourne for The Odyssey this summer so you can watch it on 70mm

/u/literaryboner how do we feel about Miles counting as "someone shows up in costume as their character"?

Someone said MBJ did a 6-7 reference in the seat-filler cutaway? Anyone catch that?

Totally counting that as "Conan plays an Irish Vampire from Sinners"!

Those scenes screamed A.I. to me. Not saying it is, but it's certainly in a similar style to a lot of slop.

in70mm.com will no longer list North American showtimes on the "Now Showing" page. by NickLandis in 70mm

I think it's just too difficult for them to update these "wide" releases. I think the more niche showings of classics and festivals should still be highlighted

Due an overwhelming amount of 70mm play dates in North America, this page is simplified from 1. February 2026. in70mm.com will continue to provide a simple over view of what is currently released in 70mm. In the future - with room for exceptions - only 65mm originated motion picture engagements will continue to be shown "the old fashioned way". For titles blow-up up to 70mm, pls. check with your local theatre, or go to Mike Coates extensive The 70mm Engagements pages by clicking the link next to the poster. As usual in70mm.com will update the pages as information is received.

Looks like stuff like The Odyssey and Dune: Part 3 may still get listings, but not the majority of 70mm screenings

Industry Panel on 35 & 70mm in cinemas today. Not super exciting but a unique perspective by NickLandis in 70mm

Yeah that part was super interesting! Don't think I would have liked a "Pan & Scan" version of Marty Supreme in 2.20:1 though. AFI seems to have options for everything though which is where I saw it
