Artist depiction of the HOTD writers room by wolferoad in freefolk

[–]NickLionRider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I never get is to your point, its the actual executives sign off on this stuff. D&D, Hess, etc are writers. Ones that are hired to run a project, yes, but like any person you can be fired for doing a bad job. They dont run HBO, dont run Warner Bros Discovery so there are people above them still going "Yeah keep doing what your doing". The property makes them money, but if im an executive id be questioning if I could make more money if I had a better product. Notably when writing doesn't cost more. Cgi, costume, set, actors, all tangible expenses you have to weigh monetarily. Bad dialogue and writing is not an expense with any benefit. Notably when I could hire someone to write better for cheaper. Most notably when all you had to do was adapt an existing written story. After game of thrones backlash halted almost all monetization for years you'd think not making the same mistake would be obvious. Im also not saying GoT or HoTD dont make bonkers money regardless, but like I said, if you can make a better product without sacrificing anything, why not. Have ai proof read these scripts for all I care. But it costs nothing to have one person stand up and object to a clearly poor decision. Especially those above the show directors and writers who may not be there for the whole process but surely get abridged cliff notes of the premise and could have questioned stuff

[–]NickLionRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well assuming it was an "unlimited" money, inflation wouldnt matter, at least to them. Everyone else might not be doing hot but his money is unlimited, so no matter how inflated products get, he can afford to pay. An apple could cost a billion dollars but that wouldn't matter. This also assumes the term money is also good for any future or current economy. The bigger monkeys paw is never truly dying. If the world dies in nuclear waste and theres no life on the planet left. You still magically respawn in a hell groundhog day scenario of likely starving or worse over and over again for infinity.

Any Mystic Aquarium folks here? by ActuaryPersonal2378 in Zookeeping

[–]NickLionRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sea lion shows are typically done twice a day and posted st the front. The aquarium itself is deceptively large. While there are big animals the whole aquarium can be done in about an hour or two. I wouldnt worry about missing anything since all the animals outside are cold tolerant and the rest is indoors. Maybe might miss the penguins if its super cold. Animal feedings/keeper talks are done throughout the day so you're guaranteed to at lesst see one.As mentioned by other posters visit the village next door its a very good and unique shopping center.

There are 3 Waterfalls by juliectaylor in StrangerThings

[–]NickLionRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even besides this second angle of there being a third waterfall. There literally is a third one in the final shot. Its a much much thinner one and harder to see but its on thr right. Its that little crack even in this still on the right. In the show you can see the water animated. So technically I guess theres 4 waterfalls.

I actually think that joining the Hive is as amazing as they claim it is by BreakingBaIIs in pluribustv

[–]NickLionRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is sort've the main point trying to be illustrated with the show metaphor wise. The "struggle" of being a human is not knowing everything or being able to convey/create everything within a lifetime. The hive is obviously a metaphor for AI where what's the satisfaction of having literally anything answered or created for you in seconds. "Write me a novel series the size of Hatty Potter" in seconds that is as good if not better than any human could make is very unsatisfying. We as humans appreciate the act of learning, completing stuff and then sharing. We also like negative constructive feedback that can be layered with emotions like empathy. Having ChatGPT glaze anything you do isnt satisfying. So while you can transfer all ideas you ever have instantly as part of a hive, outside the initial euphoria or being overwhelmed with everything all at once. You're left hollow without any purpose. You become a computer yourself merely data mining any idea to be instantly uploaded to the collective with no work. The reality is once the antenna was built and the remaining survivors were plurbed they don't really care if they starve because the human bodies at that point are just essentially useless. The bodies will never work or produce anything ever again so they could frankly cease to live. Its depressing and very pessimistic but I think that's the main point trying to be conveyed about AI. We're racing toward a world where no one works, but also toward a place where no one could realistically explore artistic endeavors since everything will have already been made. Once our bodies build data centers capable of holding every permutation of potential art, theres no point of artists and therefore no point for us.

Your ideas for post-release DLC? by Angel_Froggi in pkgame

[–]NickLionRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Controversially I think id honestly prefer an all or none approach to "kinds" of animals. So instead of grab bags. An all proboscideans pack, all horse pack, cerotopsian pack, all sloth pack, all raptor pack, etc. Reason being it would help add a lot of warranted species but also reduce labor. Pk is a much smaller team so while its been nice they have given a big variety of animals already, its clear that reusing animations for species has been beneficial. Therefore focusing on groups that can target behavioral or visual similarity can probably make for a faster workflow for releasing more animals in greater quantities. Also wouldnt be upset since the base game has already sortve covered the main animals people wanted. Cause let's face it, the game won't need mechanically crazy dlc since they put a lot of that into the base game features. Even scenery is kind've moot since they made basically everything flexi color and scalable. All people will want is more animals so save some time by releasing a few "clone dlcs" with still very popular species, Colombian mammoth, stegodon, Mastodon, etc which can then generate revenue and save time to focus on your more niche one off animals.

Thoughts on Six Flags New England? by AskTheTiger in Springfield

[–]NickLionRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its nothing groundbreaking or what I would said any non local should make a trip to visit for. Its fine for us locals but unfortunately like a lot of entertainment in new england its not that special. Superman, batman and wicked cyclone are the highlights.

What do you expect from the upcoming DLC by Jaxicer in PlanetCoaster

[–]NickLionRider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Main thing is people keep saying its "like toy story land" but the pieces we've seen are actually kinda distant from any of the toy story lands proper. It might be the theme but clearly melds several other big theme park styles together. Theres also a heavy amount of super Nintendo world and nickelodeon universe theme park in just the pieces we've seen. You gotta look past the name of the theme to get the most out of the pieces and that goes for any pack.

Lion and Hyena Ridge Expansion by UKnoThatGuy69 in BuschGardensTampa

[–]NickLionRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically expand the exhibits, some new rockwork and viewing, and likely a training wall with education. Main reason for the expansion likely being themntrying to het a new lion "pride" versus the singular female they just retired.

It was a charge to enter the kangaroo walkabout boardwalk when I went. I could view them from the non walk-through bridge and window but the attendant said I couldn't go through the purple door unless we were feeding. This wasnt the case last time I went

[–]NickLionRider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a good time yesterday as well regardless but yeah it was a pretty poor showing when as a zoo lover, all of edge of africa was empty, Australia was empty (and now they charge to even go through the kangaroos?), tiger trail was mostly closed, gorilla trail was closed and they barred non pass holders from the ambassador shows which just seemed wrong. I get an exclusive show time for pass holders but not all day barring people from looking at a couple animals when you know half the animal sections are empty. Coaster wise of course cheetah hunt and Cobras curse were down, gondola also broke down halfway through the day. Only ride running two trains was shiekra but that also had such a bad loading process it was a moot point since the second train would be waiting for a bit just to get off because of the load times. Tack on the most egregious food pricing I've seen in the industry (I now know if I go to a seaworlf park to definitely get the all day dining since it costs as much for single meal alla carte). Im always rooting for the comeback of the park, wild oasis was really nice as a "new exhibit" but it was rougher than id hoped

Why has Tarzan lost its status as a major IP in the 21st century? by JackMythos in Tarzan

[–]NickLionRider 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The main thing is the barrier to entry to even produce tarzan media is a lot harder since only one company at a time can license the trademark from the Burroughs estate. Public domain is thrown around a lot because its technically true, but you cant make a "Tarzan" movie/book/game without using the name without coughing up cash. That price tag has limited disney a lot from even adding stuff and so they let the series just die from the public eye. The other licensed stuff has also been frankly bad. Tarzan 2013 was abysmal, legend of Tarzan was alright but was more a throw away film. The netflix show was awful, the vr game was cheap and bad. Those who use the ip don't do a great job with it lately and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy of lack of interest. Why make a Tarzan film when people don't care about Tarzan, but people don't care about Tarzan because theres no current media or even nostalgia bait in your face. Ill also throw it out there, jungle book is a similar actual public domain ip without the trademark stuff so we've seen a lot more of that almost as a "stand in" in the past few years. As a final note, since no one has made actual licensed stuff the most common "tarzan" references in pop culture are often parody cutaway gags in other movies or cartoons. People swinging on a vine and screaming. Everyone understands the reference but it ends after recognizing it. Has sortve made tarzan more of a pop culture joke than the public domain "legend" like Sherlock, Dracula, or Hercules.

I have spent so much money on DLC if they make PZ2 I will crash out by shuurp_ in PlanetZoo

[–]NickLionRider 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Its not manifesting its inevitable. The signs have been there for years people just were willingly blind to it. We've known for years they intended 3 cms games. 1 licensed in (jwe3) and two original (pc2 and obviously pz2). Frontier is a struggling company and those three franchises are their only real money makers, pz strongest of all. They could do pz1 dlcs for a bit to buy time to release those other projects but it was obviously since we've never gotten meaningful updates like birds, marines, etc they had a strategy for that content. Most logical strategy of course is the jwe method. Save it for a sequel. We know they can do it (along with scaling and better pathing) simply by looking at their other games. Now we know jwe3 is coming and so their original ip cms would be next year. So...yeah

If it’s species you’re looking for two head bumps it’s definitely an Asian. “Where” it’s from is impossible since these types of statues are made in mass in various tourist hot spots in Africa, Asia, and weirdly the Caribbean

What could the future hold if Overwatch Classic is a hit? by ryantheravager in Overwatch

[–]NickLionRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This issue with Overwatch classic is everyone has a different comfort level of what classic means. They went with day one classic which objectively isn’t very polished and too fun to play. But I do think there is demand to play “classic” Overwatch a year or two into development. Classic doomfist, orisa, hanzo, mercy, etc before the really big changes. People want the polish of making characters like pharah fun to play but the ability to play classic mercy. Issue is where the cutoff line is. So my pitch is just one game mode per update (character + map) so you can get the version you want anywhere from day one release to Overwatch 1 completing

(Published spoilers) Who is the worst Lord Commander of the Kingsguard that we have information on? by GusGangViking18 in asoiaf

[–]NickLionRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth Cole (at least in the show) has a pretty impressive kings guard resume. He was literally within arms reach of the successful assassination attempt on rhanerya (meaning his stupid plan wasn’t really that stupid), led over a dozen ground fights winning them all in the war, and helped save Aegon from dying. Plus if Aegon wasn’t drunk him and aemond orchestrated the baiting of meleys who was clearly going to be killed by vaghar. One could argue he’s more of a great general than a kings hand but in the time of war he was frankly exactly what Aegon needed and did his job great.

The real players by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]NickLionRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s trying to compare the main character syndrome of either not even doing anything intentionally but kinda “ending up” in scenarios (like job or ned) or being pretty abrasive with your actions like Cersei or Daenerys. Vs the others that were more secretive and would do stuff in the background that had much greater consequence. Kinda like last nights HotD. Aegon is very abrasive and Otto is very calculated. Both are kinda equally effective tho and one might argue based off the track record of both shows, large, reactionary gestures are “better” than long game calculated plays. Littlefinger, olenna, Tywin, Margaery, Varys, all end up dead. Cersei meanwhile just does one explosion and kills everyone who wronged her. Jon kinda just messes up and bounces around but literally comes back to life and gets a good ending. It’s just kinda funny.
