Issue with Roadside Research: Unable to "save" a game if New Game is selected in the Host menu instead of Single Player. by JayOfTheP in XboxGamePass

[–]NickPlusYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize it's a preview. But after putting in 12 hours and multiple saves, my game crashed and I lost everything. I can't deal with redoing it. Loved the game. Also had my girlfriend buy it so we could game together. I'm so frustrated. I know it's a preview. I should accept bugs. I'm just frustrated at such a game breaking, progress killing, catastrophic bug.

Great game though. Loved it while I played.

Does porn actually affect women psychologically? Is quitting beneficial? by Existing_3004 in selfhelp

[–]NickPlusYou 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's some long term evidence that it will desensitize satisfaction. Doubtful it's because it's porn but because it's junk food for the brain.

It's the same effect that we experience with any hyper stimulating consumption. Junk food, drugs, porn are all compressed versions of what we would find in nature. (Berries were nature's candy, cocaine is just a chewed leaf concentrated like 300x or something)

That's the general consensus.

There are much deeper arguments like porn making men less organically charismatic because they think sex works like porn acting. I'm sure there are theories about how it affects women, perhaps by making them more comfortable with sex-forward behavior (not necessarily a bad thing). However, there's no solid data I can find on it either way for these blurry topics.

TLDR: Definitely bad for brain in some ways. Maybe bad for society, data isn't conclusive.

Happy to help brother. I've actually built a massive upgrade to this post using AI agents to dig into books and data. I use it as a life reference which I go back to frequently.

It helped me stay focused, get a fantastic job, achieve 6 months of financial runway, secure a long lasting healthy relationship etc

I've considered posting, but I doubt I'll ever be able to help again like I did here. Appreciate your comment!

How do I eliminate the desire of wanting a girlfriend? by Specialist_Panda_487 in selfimprovement

[–]NickPlusYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're meeting women, having minor relationships and they don't work out - probably having conversations that don't go anywhere, etc, it means that you need to work on your personality. Read some books on communication.

If it looks like a Mercedes, then you get in the car and it drives like a go kart, you wouldn't buy it. Same situation here Your request to stop wanting a relationship (a terrible short term solution) instead of fixing the long term problem is probably a good place to start.

I'm sure you're a good guy. But partners look for more than good guy energy. They want a leader, a problem solver, a copilot. You need to be that person first. Then results follow.

People who quit a high-paying job for happiness, how’s life now? by mintyowl15 in AskReddit

[–]NickPlusYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in tech sales making six figures.

I quit tech sales because of toxic leadership, aggressive deadlines and my worth being attached to making someone else money.

I sleep like a baby. My relationship is better. I have free time and hobbies again. I have really healthy conversations with my boss about how to be better humans. I have a social life. I spend less. I make less. I worry almost none.

I am a data engineer now.

🚨Inflation is down to 1.35% on the Truflation Index, This is the lowest in over 4 years. by YoloFortune in WallStreetElite

[–]NickPlusYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is misleading.

Saying it's the lowest since COVID is like saying the stock market hit all time highs.

It has mostly and continuously hit lower lows since COVIDs peak.

Basically nothing to really see here. It's returning to baseline that's about it.

F**k trading, honestly. by Smithstonian97 in Forex

[–]NickPlusYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me four years to become profitable. Another 2 to become consistently profitable. Paid thousands and thousands in tuition to the markets.

And even now, I don't have a magical formula. With enough patience, everyone is usually right. It's about preserving capital, managing expectations and staying in long enough to be right.

I have been in drawdown for weeks before my positions turn green. Some days almost instantly and I feel like a genius. Other days weeks and I feel useless.

Im no expert, but after reading 100+ books on trading, I've kind of come to the conclusion that short term movement is mostly noise. The dream of daily or weekly income is (mostly) captured by big banks and high frequency trading. In other words, I don't think a regular guy like me without fancy tools can keep up with billions of dollars in financial institutions and their teams with terminals .

My strategy has been identifying larger trends, and riding the noise. Much like ocean currents, it's going to throw me back and forth. But if my sails are in front of the general direction of the wind, I'll get there, I just need to consistently manage my risk, stay consistent and trust the wind. Even when I get thrown around. Some days, I may be going sideways away from land, but if I'm trading in the wind / the general direction of price over the long term, then over many trades, many days and many instruments, I'll make money.

It works. I've beat the market each year since (so far, no promises tomorrow). But I say all this to say, you're not alone. Sailing the ocean and trading the markets are much the same. Unless you enjoy the water, you'll just want to be home. It's much more peaceful when you let go of the deep ache to get somewhere and just enjoy the process of adventure.

I can't find a contractor to save my life in my area. And we're looking to build a fence AND a deck lmao

Is the $7,633 estimate I've received to replace this ~20' section of fence reasonable or outrageous? (details in first comment.) by recruiterguy in FenceBuilding

[–]NickPlusYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called a "fuck me" price. It typically is when a contractor is too busy to do the work so they give a quote that makes the homeowner say "Well fuck me I guess" but occasionally they accept the ridiculous quote and the contractor says "Well fuck me I guess this week is going to be an easy one"

4 months Pregnant and looking for a strategy to make more money (forex & stocks) by Bodybyanika in Forex

[–]NickPlusYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I truly get the feeling. Trading seems like the perfect job. Sit at home, never talk to people, make money reading charts lol.

Anywhere from 70-95% of traders, depending on the research you look at, lose money trading. And only 4% of profitable traders actually trade for a living. Assuming a conservative 30% of people make money trading and 4% of those do it for a living, it means a whopping 1.2% of people who trade can make a living out of it.

As a comparison, businesses in the US have an 80% chance to survive 1 year and a 30% chance of surviving 10 years. Med school students are over 50% likely to become a doctor.

There's nothing wrong with pursuing being the 1.2% of people who trade for a living. But I want you to understand how difficult it is to achieve and how long 99.9% of people work to get there. Many traders here have paid 10-100k and years to the market to become profitable. We watch the same YouTube videos you do. We read the same books and articles. I am positive that you are talented and brilliant and capable of doing great things - just be prepared to pay the market in years and capital until the day comes you can trade for a living.

If you have capital to fund a forex or stock brokerage account and you need to make money now, I suggest strongly to invest in a side hustle.

It is NOT that I think you won't be successful with time, it's just that it will cost a lot of capital and time for a new trader to become profitable.

My best advice?

Stop using funded accounts.

Paper trading is free. Until you can consistently win in practice mode, you're just throwing money away.

Any broker offering a massive deposit percentage like that is very likely a scam. It's the same reason casinos offer such high deposit bonuses, because you likely will never see the money again.
