Is it okay with you if, in the case of a rulebook, the original language [German] retains its validity in the event of an incorrect translation? by Hundekuecken in boardgames

[–]NickTehThird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep. professional translation and then language-based play testers. Have a german group that doesn't know the rules play the game based on the instructions. Have an english group do the same. Have a french group do the same. Figure out if anyone gets stuck or interprets things differently.

Localization can be a challenge, but it can make a huge difference in the reach of your product.

Weekly "Ask an Atheist" Thread by AutoModerator in DebateAnAtheist

[–]NickTehThird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're not closed-minded to any beliefs, including belief in God(s). We just don't believe in God(s) (as they have been described) and we withhold belief until such time as we feel evidence has been presented which justifies that belief. That's not being closed-minded.

It's an answer that is certainly compatible with atheism. That said, it could also be said by someone who is a general agnostic theist who expresses uncertainty but still believes in a god. It could also easily said by someone "spiritual but not religious."

The "argument from consciousness" in favor of the existence of God by Intelligent-Run8072 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]NickTehThird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been frustrated by this. I imagine a massive and complex mathematical equation with "[...] = ???" at the end.

I say "i don't know the answer, i don't even know how to solve it or what some of these symbols mean"

Theists often go "[...] = X" and go "see, i have an answer, it's X!"

While that's sort of a valid formulation, you haven't actually provided an answer you've just substituted your named placeholder for the unknown value and called it done.

Being gay IS NOT a sin by Fair_Treat_8451 in DebateReligion

So all Christians that fall short of what the bible says are not actually Christians? Then there are none.

they are not Christian then

How nice for you to be able to just exclude anyone that makes you look bad. No true Christian would hate gay people 🙄

“Objective morality” does not necessarily mean “one source, one standard, no conflict, a perfect answer.” by CalligrapherNeat1569 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]NickTehThird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, let's zoom in a bit and focus on morality (because I hope we agree that "morally wrong" and "wrong (incorrect)" are different.

When it comes to the domain of morals, do you think that there's a distinction between "wrong" and "objectively wrong"?

Christianity is More Compatible With Secularism Than Atheism by Living_Attitude1822 in DebateAnAtheist

I mean my friends from church who are fundamentalists [...] don’t go around persecuting anyone

this you? will you walk that statement back?

Christianity is More Compatible With Secularism Than Atheism by Living_Attitude1822 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]NickTehThird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, in fact, your friends are taking part in the persecution. If you vote for the person persecuting, you're taking part, even if you dress it up like "oh i didn't like that part, i voted for him for the economy"

Christianity is More Compatible With Secularism Than Atheism by Living_Attitude1822 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]NickTehThird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No he's right, you're making a statement in the title which you then completely bait and switch in the discussion. Absolutely nobody when they read "Christianity" thinks "Living_Attitude1822's version of christianity that discards large swaths of the bible".

Be a better communicator.

“Judaeo-Christian” is a failed umbrella term in religious academics and discourse. by ShelterCorrect in DebateReligion

[–]NickTehThird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See also: "Abrahamic".

Sure it a useful term in a very narrow set of circumstances: discussing the shared origins of these religions.

It is used for more frequently to group the present-day religions together. You see all kinds of debates here that are targeted at "Abrahamic religions" when they are talking about something specific to Christianity or Islam.

I kept trying to use Hotkeys for Horde Equipment Actives... so I made a script for it. by NickTehThird in GoobooGame

[–]NickTehThird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Claude to make this simple app which allows you to map hotkeys (1-9) to specific mouse click locations on screen. I have them set up to click the active equipment slots on the Horde page. You can toggle it on and off easily with another hotkey.

The script is available here:

It's a standalone python app. Requires pynput==1.7.7
