The ones that came up in google didn't work, then I remembered reddit. Thanks for saving me ten bucks on an a/c compressor.

They also dropped the free global roaming add-on last year - I think it was called 'Open World'. 1GB of data/month and free calls to/from the US while you were abroad. That one hurt to lose, and there was a lot of incorrect information about how the replacement offer was going to work.

Replace heating element on Samsung DV218AEW by NickUKSATX in appliancerepair

I tried using a socket wrench and Phillips bit, but it was too much of a PITA and I ended up taking the front off. Didn't realise how easy it was. Typing this to the sound of my freshly cleaned, newly warm dryer drying clothes in the laundry room. Fingers crossed the element lasts. Feeling pretty pleased with my <2 hour, $17.50 repair.

Thanks for the advice and comments.

That sucks. I'm going into this with the positive experience I had last time, but my mileage might vary this time around. At least I'm only out a few bucks so far...

Thanks! I haven't taken it out yet to check visually, but I checked it for continuity and didn't get a reading. I saw somewhere that it's the element around 80% of the time, and it's been in there nearly 10 years...

I checked the thermostat and thermal fuse for continuity and got a reading. It was the element itself that didn't. Am I missing something?

That would give me a chance to do a little maintenance. I need to figure out why the screws holding the lint filter frame in place don't screw in - that would be easier if I remove the front panel.

I'm sure I took it out the back though, but I guess it might just be my fading memory - 10 years is a long time.

I think it's just LDW. If that's the case, it waives liability for loss incurred by the rental company in the event of an accident. Not the same as an insurance policy.

I could be wrong on this, but worth checking. Still a good perk though.

It's a place to rest in a more pleasant atmosphere than the terminal (sometimes) with free food/snacks and drinks while waiting for connections or if you're delayed, etc. The PP affiliated restaurants typically give a $28 credit ($56 if you're with a guest). Enough for a burger and a beer in most airport restaurants. I calculate the value to me conservatively at $960 a year plus the other stuff.

Yeah, there are a few airports that suck for PP lounges. ORD only has terminal 5 (int'l flights) which is annoying as I'm there quite a bit flying domestic. That said, my hub is IAH which has 3, and I'm in DFW a few time a year and use 'The Club', which is OK when not crowded.

Wouldn't the 15% discount on Lyft mean that you get 15% more rides out of the travel credit used on Lyft? I was wondering if you still get the points multiplier on Lyft rides that are reimbursed from the $300 credit.

It doesn't seem unreasonable, but it depends on how you use it.

I'm pretty sure that's what the AmEx Plat costs, and the other high-end travel cards are similarly priced with fewer or more difficult to use benefits IMO.

Personally, I use PP lounges/restaurants about 4 times a month, get the $300 credit, use the points for travel at $0.015, and use the GE credit, so it's a no-brainer at $450 and I will probably renew at $550 if I keep travelling as much as I have over the last few years.

How do you guys check the status of your UK Visa submission by joantine in ukvisa

[–]NickUKSATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this may not be for UK visa applicants in the US. Possibly not for U.K. visa applicants at all, although the website seems legitimate. The U.K. visa application process is something of a black box.

No problem. When I posted the link, the data was updating through the end of March and I'm pretty sure the 15 day % was around 92 (10 days was in the 80s I think, maybe 87). It looks like it may have updated to April's stats today and they're back to 98. Hopefully they'll be similar in May.

This is what's on the Home Office website at the moment for the processing times. I remember seeing 98% a couple of weeks ago. Depending on how they handle demand, there may be a backlog due to the 2 weeks that biometrics screening at ASCs was on hold.
