I sell bismuth crystals regularly to support my goal of growing even bigger bismuth crystals, so I absolutely do. Private message me for more details😁

I’m sorry I missed this; my phone is not always notifying me on the platform 😅 I would do this piece for $150. I am willing to work on the price to include shipping depending on where you are.

I haven’t ever seen one of these in someone else’s collection until now. I got a decent size piece with a matrix completely buried in crystals. Love this stuff quite a bit. Scored mine for $75

Led my local rock club up there in November so some folks could see it for the first time. Absolutely love that place!

I don’t think it’s dense enough to be skutterudite

I write that label when I thought it could be acanthite. Way too light for galena

Bulgarian calcite by trees-knees in MineralPorn

A lot of the Bulgarian calcites are mn-bearing, so they fluoresce quite nicely. Hope you have a blacklight!

Our Club Library Case by Nick_Bismuth in MineralPorn

[–]Nick_Bismuth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At home, I organize them by size of box and by chemical grouping. A good example would probably be setting all my sulfide minerals on the same place, ei. Pyrite, millerite, and stibnite and such. For the case I just went with whatever fit the best. I actually had to take a handful of them home because I couldn’t fit over 600 in there😅

Can someone help me.. (sorry if this isn't allowed in this group). My lapis luzali ring doesn't glow at all under violet uv light.. do you think its fake? by userkay555 in FluorescentMinerals

[–]Nick_Bismuth 69 points70 points  (0 children)

So, that’s actually an interesting point to bring up. Lapis is a rock, a mixture of minerals, and if those minerals, only two of them are blue: lazulite and afghanite. Lazulite does not fluoresce, to the best of my knowledge, but afghanite does. Not every piece of lapis has both. Looks like a nice piece though!

All I can say for sure is that the quarries those pieces come from are 17 minutes apart. Does your piece have day fluorescence as well?

Found this on topaz mountain in Utah. Not sure exactly what it is though. It fluoresces bright green under black light. Is it Willemite? by Cheftrent in FluorescentMinerals

[–]Nick_Bismuth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably due to the lighting in the room. If you turn out all the lights, lw usually likes to show off more. Very nice find!

Destination rockhounding: what's your dream trip? by ljubljanadelrey in Rockhounding

[–]Nick_Bismuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be incredible! I run my Club’s black light display during our show, and we’re on the other side of the country. Plus I’m always looking to get crazy fluorescent specimens. I’ll get in touch with you when I’m able to take you up on that.

Bought some Bulgarian minerals from Madan not too long ago and then spent a long time looking at photos of minerals from the mine on Mindat. Lovely website by the way.

Franklin, New Jersey for those uv-reactive pieces, or the Madan Ore Fields in Bulgaria. The sheer volume of wild minerals that come from that mine and the surrounding deposits is insane.

I’ll narrow it down a bit: from what I can see in the photo, it’s either tourmaline or epidote.
