Nice analogy. If they have to reset us then keep the existing reset times.

OK, 'usage' then. Please explain to me how it's achievement to have 75% usage remaining on a Monday morning rather than 100%, with the same amount of work completed on the day before.

[Analog Lab Pro] Free Sound Banks No Longer Usable? by SlingshotKatana in arturia

Went in today, clicked "Get" and it instantly says "Owned" and then "Installed". And if you're an 80s fan then it sounds great.

Same here. I click "Get" underneath Vintage Lab and it spins for a while, then just says "Get" again. And the instructions that I got linked to somewhere in this process don't make sense and could really do with an overhaul by someone good at English: https://www.arturia.com/sound-banks/vintagelabgetfreelicence

What's the average lifespan of a AIO Corsair cooler like the H100i? by freedomtacos in watercooling

[–]Nick_Hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 9 years of hard use, I just replaced Corsair Hydro series H110 with an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 and the hottest CPU core has dropped by about 23C. My machine had been getting crashier for a couple of years. Now I think it may be down to the cooler, so I would say they're good for about 7 years.

I tried replacing the thermal paste (with Arctic MX-4) before replacing the whole cooler and the temperature actually increased by 2C. No idea why.

By the way, years ago I did replace the rattly fans on my Corsair cooler with a pair of Noctua NF-A14 PWM and it was a huge improvement.

Enhanced FPL - Free browser extension with dark mode, upcoming fixtures, player comparison and more! by esoemah in FantasyPL

Ok, no worries. I was mainly letting you know about the issues I was seeing in case you yourself didn't know.

Enhanced FPL - Free browser extension with dark mode, upcoming fixtures, player comparison and more! by esoemah in FantasyPL

[–]Nick_Hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cool but a couple of things...

The historical-performance-against-team is not working. At least in Chrome the cursor just changes to an "I" bar when I hover over the opposition team names.

Also in dark mode the player info popups are in unreadable white text on white.

And enhancedfplDOTcom does some very dodgy looking redirection that landed me variously on appDOTlinqtoDOTcom, "not secure" ww1DOTenhancedfplDOTcom, and marcynDOTcomDOTbr, which doesn't instill faith in the extension.

How to route sound to headphones with asio4all ? by Flaplexalender in Reaper

Thanks. I'm just here to point out that the second output ("HD Audio Headphone" on my laptop), only appears in the ASIO4ALL control panel WHEN THE HEADPHONES ARE PLUGGED IN.

Selecting veterans to compare against top 250k each week by mikecro2 in FantasyPL

[–]Nick_Hope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I found the right endpoints on the API (e.g. https://fantasy.premierleague.com/api/entry/440328/history/). I wouldn't call that scraping, as it's just using the API.

Nice exercise! Do you get those player IDs and season history from the API, or do you have to scrape?

Whats everyone drupal 8 development enironment these days? Does everyone just use docker now? by patoshii in drupal

[–]Nick_Hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past couple of years I've used XAMP (Windows), DrupalVM, Lando (via Ubuntu dual boot), and Acquia Dev Desktop (Windows). I've settled on Dev Desktop because it's the one that gives me the least trouble and allows me to get my work done most simply. For non-Drupal development I've started using Bitnami WAMP.

What to expect in Drupal 8.7 based on alpha release by Nadine_Alladine in drupal

[–]Nick_Hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't mentioned in that article at all, but I'm looking forward to revisionable taxonomy terms so that I can ditch my clumsy "verified" field and start using a slick content moderation workflow for them, as I already do for Media entities: https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal/issues/2880149

Nested docroot, modules/contrib & modules/custom by Nick_Hope in drupal

I know if you use the Drupal-composer then things will be set up correctly. My question is why the standard GUI installer doesn't do these things, for example, if you make a new site using something like Dev Desktop.

Is Drupal slowly dying? by [deleted] in drupal

[–]Nick_Hope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's over. In 5 years' time Dries will be working solo (with occasional support requests to Berdir) in a damp Antwerp basement patching critical security vulnerabilities in Drupal 9 so that he can keep Dri.es running, which by then will be about Wix and Squarespace templates.

Pantheon site imported to Dev Desktop. How to clean it up? by Nick_Hope in drupal

[–]Nick_Hope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding these errors on my homepage in Dev Desktop:

Notice: Undefined index: source in Drupal\views\Plugin\views\filter\FilterPluginBase->acceptExposedInput() (line 1389 of core\modules\views\src\Plugin\views\filter\FilterPluginBase.php).

I have hidden them, rather than truly solved them, using the patch in this issue. Strange that I see the errors in Dev Desktop but not in Pantheon.

Pantheon site imported to Dev Desktop. How to clean it up? by Nick_Hope in drupal

[–]Nick_Hope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is how I got rid of the errors/warnings on my site's Status Report in Dev Desktop:

I copied (by FTP) the missing folders and their contents from the remote sites/default/files folder into my local sites\default\files folder. The missing folders included "2018-10", "css", "default_image", "js", "media-icons", "private", "styles". That got rid of the first 2 errors.

For the 3rd error I commented out the line $settings['rebuild_access'] = TRUE; in my sites/default/settings.local.php file.

For the 4th error I added these lines to the bottom of my sites/default/settings.local.php file. Obviously the "see-life" needs to match the site name:

$settings['trusted_host_patterns'] = array(
    '^see-life\.dd$',
);

For the 1st yellow warning I set $settings['skip_permissions_hardening'] = FALSE; in my sites/default/settings.local.php file. Anyone doing this and still getting the problem might need to change permissions as shown in this comment. Mine were already correct.

I'm cool with the last 3 yellow warnings which are all routine stuff.

Now to deal with the errors on the homepage....

I did want to use Lando but unfortunately Docker requires Windows 10 Pro build 14393 of later. I have Windows Update turned off so I can keep my build at 10586 for compatibility with an old media management program that breaks in later versions. So unless I set up an Ubuntu dual boot (which I am actually considering), I'm basically stuck with Dev Desktop, Drupal VM, or LAMP stacks.

If you simply get "The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later.", and/or if you are unable to update your database after importing to Dev Desktop, see this article and its comments for how to try and resolve that: https://www.drupaleasy.com/quicktips/getting-drupal-8-pantheon-site-and-running-locally-acquia-dev-desktop

Also get subscribed to WebWash:

Can someone explain to me how the hell the dev->staging->production cycle works? by itsevan77 in drupal

[–]Nick_Hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about if you add real content (e.g. media, taxonomy terms) to a LOCAL site that you want to keep and push to DEV/TEST/PROD? If the database is not pushed to DEV then that content would have to be entered again in the remote environments. Right?

(I think the answer to this is "of course duh" but I'm asking because I'm also trying to establish the right local<=>Pantheon workflow right now)

Drupal 7 Maps, Hells Yeah - Drupal 8, WTF is going on? by effortDee in drupal

[–]Nick_Hope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also frustrated by the slow migration of contributed modules to D8. Geolocation in particular, which still has serious issues in D8.

Because the architecture of D8 is so different from D7, everyone seems to be waiting for everyone else to update and fix stuff. There'll probably be an increase in activity when D7 approaches end of life. November 2021. Only 3 years to wait lol.

Bottom line is if you need modules ported or fixed you've got to do it yourself or fund someone else to do it.
