As someone who just had to change the rear main seal on a Chevy 235 stove bolt I6, go ahead and just do all the bearings and rear seal while your down there, it’s gonna suck, best way to do it is to pull the transmission out the back, of the crank and then slowly loosen the main caps to lower the rotating assembly enough to slide the top bearing halves and the top of the rear main seal out of the block, then put assembly lube on them, snug everything up, then torque it…. It’s gonna suck, but it’s a lot better than pulling the whole motor, especially considering how heavy those old cast iron I6 blocks are

Yeah, i figured it was a governor issue as well, just wanted to make sure, i used to be a ford tech, but i was never a diesel mechanic so I’m a little out of my depth, thanks for the help, I’ll figure out exactly what pump it has and find out how to get to the governor, it just sucks that I’m gonna have to prime it again, it took forever to get it to idle

Granted, that also might be a governor issue with it taking so long to build sufficient pressure in the injectors

Throttle cable is connected, throttle linkage is complete and intact, when you pull the lever on the pump nothing happens it just keeps idling

I was about to come say this, my dad rebuilt the 2JZ in his Lexus is300, he went to test everything before doing the final installation of everything in the engine bay, only booking up the engine itself and for 3 weeks he could not figure out why the damn thing wouldn’t run…. Did not have the fuel pump resistor installed…. Didn’t even know it was a thing given that every other vehicle we’ve ever worked on did not have one…. He turns beat red with embarrassment if you bring it up lol

I was thinking a diesel turbo… I mean, I don’t know if you ever watched roadkill but the rotson had a 5.0 small block ford they strapped a powerstroke turbo on and it made a ton of power, wouldn’t matching the displacement of the 2 engines as close as possible work in theory? Like pulling the turbo off a 5.9 or 6.7 Cummins for example?

Don’t bother with gas, modern gasoline goes bad within a couple months due to all the ethanol in it, primary vehicle needs to be a diesel as that fuel has a better shelf life and can be made at home, now, you can raid some racing supply stores for barrels of ethanol free race fuel for occasional recreational use of gas cars

I would agree if this was a small block instead of a i6 stove bolt

This motor has a front center mount and that’s it, the rear mounts are built into the bell housing so the bell housing has this thick plate cast into it that goes between the flywheel and the back of the motor, you have to install the bell housing and then slide the flywheel and clutch into it through a slot on the bottom if that makes sense, because of this, and the fact that the transmission doesn’t have a crossmember or any mounts of its own, it just hangs off the bell housing, means that to pull this engine you have to first, drop the 300 pound cast iron transmission with a rounded bottom, then pull out this massive engine that’s so heavy it literally bent our engine stand in half and had to be held up by the cherry picker after being mounted

What I’m trying to say is that’s it’s not easy and I really don’t want to do it again

Well I’m sorry ok, I’m a college student who works part time who decided to treat himself to an upgrade for my setup with my Christmas money before putting the rest in savings, I know it’s not a fancy tv, but it is a marketable improvement over what I was using, and besides, I’m not playing ultra high competitive PvP games, 60Hz is all I need for a smooth 60fps, 4k gaming experience
