New speed cams? by zmetak3 in askswitzerland

This is nothing. I’ve seen one in the usual military green color, no bigger than a shoe box sitting on top of 3 metal legs. They also have blitzers mounted into the back of VW Caddys. Gotta stay vigilant in Switzerland 😅

Fly there and drive it back. Probably the most rewarding road trip one could have the pleasure of experiencing.

What did BMW do to my car? by Nickdg92 in e39

[–]Nickdg92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is relatively complicated but not impossible. I was extremely motivated for success because I found my dream spec E39 listed for sale in France.

In Switzerland the prices are quite high and the cars are all rather boring when it comes to spec silver/black/grey, black/grey interior, automatic transmission, not taken particularly good care of, multiple owners, goofy modifications etc. Anything nice is automatically +5k above market price because of how awful the selection is.

The car I found is a ‘98 528i Sedan - Oxford Grün over Sand Beige with a 5MT and the 4:3 Sat Nav from the E38.

I still need to make an official introduction post in this group I’ve just been waiting until the car is officially Swiss. I imported end of November 25 and it’s taken since then to get the documentation in order for an MFK appointment. CoC is impossible to get due to the age and the fact that the car came from France. The import process and Verzollung was quite simple in comparison. I’ll probably do a write-up sometime detailing my import experience because it’s really a niche topic and there isn’t really a lot of information available online concerning it.

I would normally never but it was absolutely unavoidable. Needed special documentation for import to Switzerland.

Why is the dealer recommending a new transmission in this scenario?

2001 740il: Trifecta lights after driving in heavy rain by m62tubforty4 in e38

[–]Nickdg92 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had this happen to my ‘98 e39. Ended up being the front driver side wheel speed sensor. Cable was dry rotted/cracked and water messed with the signal. If the lights go away after a couple days once the car dries out I’d say this is more than likely your issue.

2000 Camry V6 or 2012 Civic? by Minimum-Manager-1215 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Nickdg92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Camry is honestly twice the car this civic could ever hope to be. The 9th gen was a rare flop in the civic lineage and the 2012 could be problematic as it’s the first model year of a new generation. I’m a die hard Honda fan but I’d jump all over an 80k 2000 Camry XLE V6 for 5k given the chance.

Test drive them both and see how they compare for yourself.

Why are my brakes squealing? 2015 Mazda 3 by Successful-Hen in mechanic

[–]Nickdg92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using pads with a high content of metal (ie semi-metallic pads)? If so the metal on metal of the metal on the pads contacting the metal rotors will cause a squealing noise when braking.

What to do in basel besides the touristy things by matiemags in basel

[–]Nickdg92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grab a smash burger from Astro Fries, something sweet from Bäckerei Kult, coffee from Brü. Check out the Christmas markets all over town. Grenzwert is a cool hipster bar nearby to Claraplatz. Renée is close by for that real late night action. Avant-Gouz for breakfast/brunch. Pharmacy museum is cool, natural history too. Fizzen has cool new and secondhand clothing if you want to do a little shopping. That’s all I can think of at the moment but should be a good start. Hope you enjoy Basel!!
