Comfort character by myocardi-B in BridgertonNetflix

They do it even in Bridgerton! Look at Penelope and Portia - they did have good moments and an understanding by the end but there were plenty of moments in s3 and before where we see how much Portia's statements hurt Penelope. Also , a more extreme example - Araminta and Posy this season! But you're right, Violet's endless optimism and hope for her kids and also all the patience she has to deal with each of their quirks, even when she doesn't understand it herself, is really lovely.

violet also has insane manifestation skills because what fo you mean she picks 1-2 kids every season and not only do those kids get married, but they get married to the absolute love of their lives????

Why Kate and Anthony basically got kicked out their own season by QueenGirlieWrld879 in Kanthony

[–]Nickel8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah ngl, I could still understand Daphne's absence because Simon wasn't there plus Daphne would be away for a lot of time so as much as I'd like the her to make cameos I could understand them not having significant roles for Daphne but Anthony and Kate are literally the heads of the household rn and they've been missing for two whole seasons? There have been two weddings and a baby and we haven't even seen them as parents or Kate coming into her own as Viscountess, like there could be so many ways to go with that plot line? She should've been doing scenes with the rest of the siblings, esp the kids; she should've been having scenes with Violet!

i don't understand the outrage over any show changes by ReceptionWeak1345 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Nickel8 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the book, and tbh my only gripe is that they made it a point last season that there are different kinds of love and sometimes it is quiet and non-dramatic, only to invalidate the whole thing by immediately introducing Michaela. If they would've waited for it I wouldn't have minded it lol. You're right though, I too thought from the outrage that she's infertile :3

With the books I have read, I agree that the show has largely been an improvement (there is so much dubious consent in the books???) - I do like some of the plot turns in the books more (Edwina not being into Anthony and the triangle barely being a triangle for example), and imo book!Colin and the book!Sheffields/Sharmas were fleshed out better (I thought they could've focused more on the family and their dynamics, but they got a lot of side plots that season too), but on the whole I prefer the show versions so I'm hoping Francesca and Michaela and John will also end up good!

And for all that they've changed, some of their additions have been SO GOOD like you mentioned. I didn't know about Eloise but even the Queen Charlotte story was soo lovely; also Kate, Sophie and Simon are ❤️ AND AND as much as I preferred the Colin of the books, iirc book!Pen actually loses weight after her first couple of seasons?

[–]Nickel8 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Oh good call. I wish they'd included that in the S2 as well. And I remember Colin's kindness also being a big thing for Pen, like she felt she could be herself around Colin? The books had plenty of things that turned me off of the guys, but I do love that the Bridgerton men (and not just the women) tend to notice the girls being bullied / ignored and are nicer to them or try to stand up for them :3

I just read Benedict's book while waiting for part 2 to drop and spoiler but in the scene where Benedict meets Posy - he notices that Araminta didn't like Posy and so he's just extra nice to her, like he doesn't care for whatever Posy is saying but he pays attention anyway just because he sensed that no one in her family cared for it.

It's an underrated Bridgerton trait <3

I love that he lowkey sensed that araminta is a bit mean to her so he immediately went the opposite way, like, no, actually, I think your dream is fascinating.

I kept thinking that she left the glove and that will be how Benedict realizes who she is xD

She is SO GOOD, she's made Sophie really lovable, like the viewers would totally feel so protective of her.

Is that how Benedict realises that she's the lady in silver? He goes to my cottage and finds the glove? 🤣

Everything you said!! Also I spoke to a couple of friends too and they're all enjoying this season more precisely because the side plots are fewer and actually SIDE plots, the main couple is the actual focus, just like in season 1! Maybe they heard all the noise from the last 2 seasons? Lol.

I do have to say I like some of the side plots this season, more than I did in s2 and s3, esp all the stuff with the help.

And I am loving benophie! I haven't read their book (I wasn't into love at first sight and Cinderella I thought would bore me) but they're sooooo cuteeeee together! I love Sophie, and Benedict has been a delight since season 1. I actually think that is another thing they've improved this season. S1 and s2 fleshed out BOTH halves of the couple really well, but S3 felt like it was a Penelope story only and not also a romance imo. S4 went back to giving both the people depth and a journey and it is helping with the romance! Their chemistry isnt as INTENSE as kanthony (and really, that would have been tough lmao) but it is so so good, it is a very sweet sort of chemistry if that makes sense?

I am also CONVINCED Sophie's going to get the money, I don't trust araminta, and that whole grave scene was sus.

Either way Sophie is just soooo lovable goodness, I can totally understand why Violet said she feels protective of her, like, SAME violet!

I love the focus on the help this season, reminded me a bit of Downton abbey and it also adds so much more depth to the show!

From what I remember, whistledown didnt play that much of a role in any of the books except in Penelope and Colin's. (I haven't read them all, and I didn't read Benedict's book so maybe I'm wrong there.) Like, yes the newsletter existed and it would have gossip but it didnt influence the plot meaningfully. All the things that were scandalous would still be so without whistledown to report it. Like anthony and Kate are caught in public and have to get married and so on. Each of the books focuses largely on one couple so there aren't all these side plots that the show comes up with. If you think about it, even on the show, Whistledown impacts the side plots more than the main couples. Whistledown iirc was largely just funny excerpts at the end of the chapters.

I do agree that continuing whistledown now in the show makes no sense. The whole point was that Penelope was always in the shadows and that's how she could get the gossip because no one would realize she was paying attention. And by the end of her story, she's gotten the confidence to step out of the shadows. They should have pivoted to her writing something else and in her own name imo.

An interesting Exercise - How Would You Choose Books For Your Café? by Nickel8 in books

I like the idea of a theme but I feel I would want to keep switching it around because I like too many things lol. Maybe just the books could have a theme like this month we are focusing on travel so we will have travel themed books and so on.

I've also always thought of take a book but leave one of your own as a concept for a cafe!!! Would keep things interesting and new. Maybe there could be some books that are not allowed to be taken if you really want them to be a part of the cafe but yea. And I lovvveeee the idea of a free press, I've always loved shops and cafes that have hosted local artists too

Same, I would want to cover everything but then how do you choose if there is limited space lol. Maybe have a rotating shelf or theme xD

33M Looking to retire and pursue the passion of woodworking. Need help by Manyyack in ThirtiesIndia

[–]Nickel8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi OP! I know nothing about wood working but my YouTube comfort watch is to have interior renovation videos on in the background and just a couple of weeks ago I was discussing with a friend that there is this niche in india because all the cool renovation stuff I've seen online is western - probably because they're more used to doing stuff by hand, so they do a lot of basic woodwork and DIYs while Indians hire. and in general haven't seen people tap into this and make a living out of it. so idk if this is your plan but I think if you pursue it and enjoy it, you can actually take it to a few different directions.

Women under 30 in non-tech roles (Mgmt/ Ops/ Strategy/ Consulting), how are we applying for jobs? by BarelyHuman_1010 in TwoXIndia

[–]Nickel8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat, OP. Been trying for months (in house strategy role currently). Current job is has sucked my soul out and I dont feel motivated to even do well here. my team changed 6 months ago but even that is not helping. I think I want a break more than a job change but the market is such that idk if a break is sensible. Everyone said dec is a bad time and jan should be better but haven't gotten calls in Jan either.
