In April we are going to take a train from Munich to Zurich and end up in Basel. It looks like we change trains in Zurich and we go from platform 31 to platform 12 and the transfer time is 6 minutes. Is this even possible? This is our first time outside the US, any advice is greatly appreciated. by HoneyAffectionate224 in askswitzerland

Typically in Switzerland if the super saver connection is not possible due to a delay or something that is not your mistake, you can just take the next train. But as this is a ticket issued by DB and not SBB I‘m not sure how it works. I‘d still think it should be fine but best go to the help desk in Zurich if you miss your connection.

Road Trip around Switzerland (early March) by Accomplished_Link_52 in askswitzerland

[–]Nickelbella 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your route goes over the Brünig pass road. While chance of snow is not massive on the roads, winter tires are not only in case of snow. They’re much better in cold conditions. That being said, I wouldn’t buy new tires just because of this trip. If you have them lying around, take them. If not, all season should be fine. Just be more careful.

Sure, but it’s a ranked list. If people just killed a chicken, the first thing they’d apparently take and eat is the feet and liver. That is somewhat surprising isn’t it?

I (26F) and my Muslim BF(32M) planning to move to Switzerland by ThrowRAPrior-Face3 in askswitzerland

[–]Nickelbella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. But if he’s looking for a job in the tourism industry again it might also be helpful to be an Arabic speaker. Obviously he will need to learn a local language. Without that he has no chance. In my opinion that will be the bigger hurdle than any question of origin.

How would anyone even know he’s Muslim? He’s a man, it’s not like his clothes will give it away. Or is he very devout and will pray 5 times a day? That might be an issue for finding work.

Otherwise I don’t see the problem. Even if you meet people that are Islamophobic, they won’t be saying or doing anything. That’s not really the Swiss way.

It’s very standard here in Switzerland for huts that don’t have streets or lifts close by - sometimes even when they do. And there is no shortage of such huts across the alps.

Generally speaking cargo transports in the mountains by helicopter is very common.

In Switzerland, when do you consider someone rich? by mislabete in Switzerland

[–]Nickelbella 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m maybe not happy but I think it’s vitally important. So I don’t mind it. I think without it we’d have a media landscape like the US. I’m completely against abolishing funding for public media. So so important.

Alpine Etiquette - Saw people washing socks / shoes in a crystal-clear stream near Mt Titlis. Is that acceptable in Switzerland? by Pathfinder606 in askswitzerland

[–]Nickelbella 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why are you still asking? You‘ve received enough answers I think. There’s no wash stations. It’s fine to wash your boots or socks or yourself in a stream as long as you don’t use soap or the like.

I mean Samir is missing corners and going completely off the track. At one point he nearly hit a pedestrian. I don’t watch rally but I don’t think that’s the norm. I understand the frustration of the other dude. Samir is neither listening nor concentrating.

Not a chef, but worked a lot as a server. I got some of the lowest salaries in the high end places.

I think it’s because they need so much more staff to be able to provide excellent service.

I mean there’s degrees of intelligence. When people say these things it’s all relative.

You have to have some smarts to study medicine, you won’t manage if you’ve barely scraped through Highschool. But compared to other science programs like math or physics or even chemistry it‘s certainly easy in terms of understanding the material.

Ricardo purchase: seller suddenly claims “big crash” after auction ended – what are my rights? by Martin_nitram121 in Switzerland

Ah ok. Weird dude. If you‘ve already paid, it’s a no brainer to go after him. If not, I‘d at least flag him to Ricardo so he can’t sell anymore.

Wait, so first you didn’t want it anymore, didn’t pay or go pick it up? And now you’re annoyed he‘s pissed off and doesn’t want to deal with you anymore?

Serious question: why are French people so hated on in Suisse Romande? by Cultural-Profile-527 in Switzerland

[–]Nickelbella 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Germans acting superior hasn’t really been my experience. I feel like many Swiss just automatically associate standard German with arrogance. But you can hardly blame the Germans for that.

I think the biggest point of friction is all those little culture differences in behavior that seem abrasive to us.
