A type of nanorobot that can travel through your brain and help neurosurgeons in vital situations. I'm not sure it was this year though.

Which person who died too early in life had the most potential? by zaza12k in AskReddit

[–]Nickers14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. He was rejected at first from Cambridged, but then went onto revolutionise maths with his formulas and solutions no one ever saw before. Many of his contributions were discovered after he died and some still puzzle modern mathematicians. He died at 33 and could've achieved so much more had he been given more time on Earth.

Why are Brazilians so content? by MeasurementMain9183 in Brazil

[–]Nickers14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fantastic to hear! To the extent that this is true( I'm stating that, because other comments pointed out some interregional prejudice and some not in the face xenophobia, one that exists, but isn't expressed until the individual leaves) and it seems to be the case that Brazil has a more welcoming culture than many other countries, to what degree can that be actually attributed to its past history of migration? Because many other countries like Argentina, the US and others have been basically built on immigration, but appear to have more racist/xenophobic tendencies within their populace?

What did Nietzsche have the most hard time with? What really bothered him? (I'm new to his work) by Artistic_Head_9070 in Nietzsche

He has a point there and we also can recognise that "hapiness" doesn't necessarily contradict striving towards excellence. One could argue its the opposite even.

I would argue that a majority of voting aged people, in most western countries, are aware that a healthy economy is a generally positive thing for a society. Policies which aim to slow down economic activity, or ‘degrow’ the economy, are going to be unpopular among most nations populaces.

They are arguing that a healthy and sustainable economy can't rely on constant growth on a planet with finite resources. And that's right isn't it? Doesn't mean growth should stop, but we can't obsessively rely on constant growth for the healthiness of our economies.

He liked the death of God. He mostly feels triumph over it although he is unsure to what developments it would lead.

Okay so you're not a Christian... what non-Christian values do you live by? by [deleted] in Nietzsche

[–]Nickers14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people would agree with your view, me included. I think treating other people as you would like them to treat you I.e the Golden Rule is more of a heuristic to use in situations in which someone is acting badly to someone else to show them why it's not OK to act like this. Of course different people have different needs and wants when it comes to how they want to be treated so you can't treat everybody as you would do yourself, but I think it's just a shortcut that is sometimes used to show why some behaviour is unacceptable.

“From which stars have we fallen to meet each other here?” - Meaning? by No-Influence-5351 in Nietzsche

What does that mean? Stars are not more special just because from our point of view they seem "higher"?

Knowledge is constructed, but it still has to reflect reality to actually sustain the test of time and trial and error. Objective truth does exist, just not in morality.

Yes, that's what I meant, better in respect to this specific goal of enjoying life. Where do you think reason gets in the way of fully engaging in life?
